Casette, I need to bring to your attention that your picture would be labeled pornographic --in Victorian times. I examined it thoroughly and discovered that the ankles of the lady in question are plainly visible!!!..... 😠

I still fine it ridiculous that this pretty pic was tagged for nudity. I snagged the pic and blew it up ALOT and still could not see any areola showing!

Sorry mods,  but I feel that it's absolutely dumb to pick on this lovely picture.

One of our goals is to promote artists and show the world the wonderfully creative art work that is expressed through digital mediums. Another goal is to have consistency of the rules and presentation across all areas of our site: Galleries, Free Stuff, Tutorials, Blogs, Homepages and the MarketPlace.

In order to reach both these goals, we need to change the way thumbnail images appear to match the rules in the MarketPlace and the weekly newsletter. Thumbnail images across Renderosity will no longer contain nudity or graphic violence going forward."

that's just silly.  those may appear to be areolas and nipples to you, but they don't (in the slightest) to me, and if they aren't then this is absurd.    saying that you could imagine they were nipples even though they're in the wrong place puts the onus on your mind not the work.  to me, the whole reason this is worth a thread is that if i just used common sense and that were my pic, i would never have even thought to tag it.    trying to guess at what people will hunt for and imagine is ridiculous.

and if they are, they are.  though they still don't look like it to me, so in your interpretation of the t.o.s. where appearances count, it would still be mislabeled as a nude. but i don't think either side can hedge their bets like that.  either reality is what counts, or what we're talking about is arbitrary persecution based on the predilections of the viewer.

and i've seen tons of t&a shots in poser, been around for years, and into comics (where anti-grav boobs and anatomical impossibilities abound) for even longer.  personally, i think people who see nipples in that pic are looking (hard) for them, but i don't run this site and don't want to.  frankly this whole nudity thing is a slippery slope.  not in the sense of censorship, but in the sense of catering to offended viewers.  if the rules are loose and viewer beware, well, it's the same as any museum.    pretty well established and understandable.  but the increasing "let's not offend anyone" policies create an expectation of "safeness."   so every time someone's offended or somehow disturbed, it becomes the artist's fault and the site's responsibility.   the more that's done to make the art here "safe," the greater the expectation of the viewers and the obligations of the site.

jjroland ( ) posted Tue, 23 January 2007 at 9:43 PM

You realize there is offense taken on both sides of this coin right?  Maybe if that wheel  begins to squeak enough , those of us on the other side will then be forced to see the T & A and you will be able to rest happily.

p.s. if I can circle it - does that mean I am just good at guessing the random location of things that point heavenward?

jjroland - no, there's not offense taken on both sides.  there's offense taken on one side, and the other side is saying they don't want to change to suit that sense of offense.  there's a big difference. one side is saying, "all of you change for us."  the other side is just saying, "let us be."  mutual offense would be one side forcing the other to have images of naked women due to being offended by their images of unnaturally clothed women.

Speaking as a member without any official title next to my name for a moment, because this is what I would have said to you all a couple of weeks ago.

I think you are all going off track here :)  You will still be allowed to have nudes in your galleries. That's not changing!!  All that is changing is the thumbnail policy where nudes are concerned.

All Renderosity is asking us to do is to make a tasteful thumbnail that doesn't have "in your face" boobs, butts and genitals.

Why is it so hard  to crop a tasteful portion of your image that is 200 x 200 pixels and simply upload that when you upload your nude image?  Surely out of a 2000 x 2000 pixel image there is 200 x 200 pixels of it that don't have sexual content in it?

The images that are tagged nudity will still be picked up by the system filters and filtered out for those who do not want to see nudity period.

I've never had the nudity filter on, but I know for me personally that  I woud rather see a gallery that is filled with tasteful thumbnails than dozens of stock ones that say "NUDITY"  or  have haphazzard scribbles through them as I see happening in the gallery today.

What is so wrong with Renderosity trying to make arriving at the gallery pages a pleasant experience for everyone?  If you want to see nudes, just click on the thumbnails with "nudity tags". If you don't want to see nudes, then don't click on the thumbs with "nudity tags".  This way we all get to see the images we want to see and  no one is being smacked in the face with "tits and ass" upon arriving in the gallery.

This change was in place long before I accepted the position of co-ordinator, and I actually agree with the changes. I like looking at tasterful nudes as well as the next person, but I don't like being confronted with dozens of "tits and ass" shots upon arriving in the gallery.  Try and deny it all you like, but many of the nudes and the "tits and ass" thumbnails have been for nothing but garnering  views. You can't deny that because search back to all of the threads that have discussed how to get more views on images and every single thread states "post nudes and post nude thumbs". So because of that it's my personal opinion that many of the nudes being posted have been purely for shock effects and to garner views, nothing more. People should be striving for views on their images based on the quality of their image, not because of the content.

I've looked at other galleries around poserdom and other than Renderotica and a couple of other similar sites, none of them allow the type of thumbnails that Renderosity has been allowing up until now.

All revolting is going to do is shoot yourselves in the foot. One day Renderosity is going to get so sick of dealing with these types of issues and the revoltes that happen when they try and make a change to better the website and make it appear more professional and tasteful, that they may  one day decide to stop allowing nudes in the gallery period!   When something becomes too much of a headache to deal with, usually the final solution is to get rid of the problem.

I don't think anyone wants to see that happen.

The above is my own personal opinion and not a statement on behalf of Renderosity.

able to know ourselves fully as we are, especially the evil side of us.

And you answered your own question. It's not what's being done but how. I read that PM to cassette and it's downright snippy. And, according to your own words, nudity is unprofessional and tasteless. So there ya have it. Of course people are going to be offended by such hamfistedness.

Offend no one, please no one. And buzzwords like 'tasteful' and 'artistic' are just that; Buzzwords, because there is no possible definition of those terms because they deal with individual human perception. If Rosity's ultimate goal is to pander to the mediocraty of 'family friendly' and 'workplace safe', they should just admit to it and remove the misleading 'art community' from all site references. Artists are usually people who push edges in one way or another. And one goal is pretty incompatible with the other. BTW: that is hair, not nipple. You have a -conforming- hair prop, with a dynamic poncho =over= it. Conforming hair is actual polygon geometry (not a runtime trick like dynamic), and if it inherits collision detection from the head, you can get that effect. Try it sometimes, the results are fascinating, depending on the mesh densities involved. If you look at the enlarged image tyger marked up, you can -also- see the bulging of the poncho edge leading from the offending area right up to the tails of hair going under the poncho. Or if you prefer, follow the curve of the hair downward, and see where the deformations in the poncho lead to (and since no naturally occuring breasts that I've seen have ridges along the anterior curvature......).

Because there are certainly no art museums that are either (work and family friendly)- they are all chalk full of T & A with no other apparent reason for it but the T & A as well.  As a matter of fact on our last trip they handed out penthouse at the door.  Hey, I was happy with it, the way I figured it was certainly more intersting than the standard handout regarding the life and times of Monet.

I have a question (I'm not an american as you know): do you have museums in America with a note in the entrance: "ONLY +18 YEARS OLD. NUDITY INSIDE" ???

Serious question, I'm just curious. In Spain you can visit Madrid's El Prado Museum without a warning and the most of the rooms are full of naked bodies in paintings or statues

(the only time I saw a warning like that was in Bilbao's Guggenheim, in a Jeff Koontz's temporary exhibition. But this was obvious... Koontz's artwort (oh, the eternal discussion about what's art...) has lots of paintings and collages with explicit sex and ejaculations)
