I guess my biggest gripe about Poser is not having an unlimited budget so I can buy lots more shiny new stuff.

Ah, no spoilers for me on anything. I don't watch tv or read the newspapers. There's enough depression in the world without having to watch or read about it!

Connie - Thanks. I've been too busy with Poser imports into Vue to really dabble properly with atmospheres & landscapes etc, I will get round to doing more. I've had Vue for a while now & I've only created one finished landscape work. I had Bryce 5, Vue 6 Esprit just trounces it!

Vince - I don't know how you do it with only 512MB. How often do you have to purge your memory?

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Thu, 19 July 2007 at 6:44 PM

Speaking of poser imports, Stormchaser, are do you use what came with Vue, or are there any nifty plugins I should look into?

And for todays rant... GRRRRRRRRRRRRR... Autocad is getting the best of me today.

Connie - I'm not aware of any plugins, I just import my Poser figures using the Poser shader tree option. Don't forget to uncheck the binary morph targets thingies in Poser otherwise your figure may lose their morphs. Some people have found out the hard way with this one. Just to note, importing with the shader tree will use more memory because it keeps it's link with Poser.

@RAMWolff... Poser interface? There's someone that actually LIKES poser interface???

Guilty as charged. I honestly love the Poser interface and absolutely prefer it to D|S's fugly lightwave'ish boring ... something.

I'm with you on the Interface. I hate D|S's interface which is why I don't bother using it and never will. Personal choice. But then, I've used Poser since it was Poser 1.0, so naturally I'm used to it.

I want the name of the figure in the delete dialog box.

Ohhh and another thing!

The shadow cams in Poser absolutely positively SUCK.

Non-Poser Rant - I had new windows installed in my office day before yesterday and they didn't seal all the windows properly. When I called to inform them of it they gave me attitude about it! So much for having them do the windows downtstairs as I'd planned for when I had the money.

svdl ( ) posted Fri, 20 July 2007 at 10:39 AM

Why o why does the hierarchy window have to open up fully expanded? Fully collapsed would make things so much easier to navigate.
And why o why do those folder icons in the library have to take up so much space? A folder is a folder, I can recognize a folder icon when it's the standard Windows/Mac sized icon. A folder hierarchy would also be much, much easier to navigate than the current library system.

And last but not least: the name of the currently selected figure in the document window - there's far too little space reserved. Giving figures meaningful names is essential in a multi character scene, and being able to read the full name in the document window would be highly appreciated...

Dockable tools/palettes would be a great idea - something that most other 3D and non-3D packages have had for years. Saves a lot of screen real estate.

As for cameras -  the Vue camera system works great. The trackball makes the current camera rotate around the currently selected object - very intuitive and easy to use. Panning the views by dragging with the right mouse button works perfectly.
The Vue interface suits my way of working and thinking very well - except for one thing: the library system. While the hierarchical structure of the Vue library is far more user friendly than the Poser system, it's got one major drawback - content installed in the library doesn't automatically show up. Especially subfolders don't show up all by themselves. This is where Poser does the better job.

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter

I think because they are based on the size of the icons and that isn't changing.

I would HATE a heirarchy system ...  HATE. That is one of the things I can't stand about DAZ Studio.

Nah! As my college professors were so fond of spouting, because it's true, "The Only Stupid Question is the one you don't ask!" We all learn by asking or by discovery. Asking is easier and, usually less painful! Imagine what the first person who ate that moldy bread to discover penicillan went through! I'm glad there are people to ask! 😉

Send flowers with a note. Send candy with a note. Send diamonds with a note. ;) Seriously, a phone call (if she'll answer), and saying honestly what you feel, and how much you miss her company is the best way. She probably misses your company, too.

Seriously, if you are genuinely sincere and you say something along the lines of "Sorry, I fucked up" your friend will accept it.  Provided, of course, that it's not a pattern of behaviour that she's gotten tired of.  It also follows that you both have to be certain it's not going to happen again.

Take a deep breath, pick up a phone and say, sorry, I was being a .... 'dickheard, or insert whatever you wish in here'.  After that it only gest easier.
The longer you wait, the harder it gets, so just hurry up and do it! It's lot easier then you imagine it to be.

Funny how much those little things on the end of our feet can hurt so much, and how much we take them for granted, isn't it? And people just don't have the proper amount of sympathy for you when they break, either. Tape, cotton and sock to help sleep... good wishes it heals quickly!

LOL, not my first broken bone, nor my last, most like. I was quite active in contact sports, not now, though this one was just catching something that was sticking out when I was playing with the cat. Not much can be done with it. I just felt the need to gripe about something, I really don't have a lot to complain about.

I'm not saying anything about the book, your going to have to read it. One of my pet peeves are people that like to tell everything that is going to happen before you get to watch or read it yourself. They all go to that special hell along with child molesters and people that talk in the theater. LOL

Hi,

Reading some of the "gripe" posts here has been fun, if not a bit informative and at least
now I don't feel like I am the only one using poser who has banged head against monitor
screen time and time again!

I have found myself spouting any number of colorful phrases (I won't mention them here
because I like this community website and don't want to get kicked off.. lol), and some
of the people I room with have deemed me utterly psychotic, which may or may not
be true (sometimes I seriously think it is...), so I was understandably relieved to see that
there was a board where people could vent a bit, or more than a bit in some cases...

At any rate, for my two cents worth, or perhaps 1 and 1/2, this program is extremely difficult to work with, or work against (depending on how you look at it...) after laying down well over 200 of my hard earned dough to purchase version 7 (heck, I thought you know, it's version 7 for criminy sakes, they must have worked the bugs out of it by now!  ??? only to find that if I keep using this program I am at a high risk of developing a brain hemorrhage, among other things, and at times trying to accomplish the simplest things is like asking "uncle sam" to give a poor smuck like me a tax break!  (I am also a 3Ds Max user and love the program)

After countless hours of teeth grinding frustration (I am going to have to go to the dentist now, since most of my molars are tiny blunted stubs that are useless for consuming food) trying to use the library tab, I have learned to use the little black arrow at the upper right side and jump around that way, for me at least it is much quicker and easier than an endless bouncing around inside the folder structure, only to end up most of the time in a place I don't want to be, and/or just giving up altogether and have to start over....
again and again!!!  lol

Another endless trial of frustration is posing figures. I have to agree with all the posts I have read here. My question is: could they have made it more difficult to pose a figure?  I doubt it,
seriously, and please don't feel too bad previous poster, my scenes never end up the way I envisioned them either, sometimes that can be a good thing though (sometimes finding a new way of "seeing" something can produce suprisingly pleasing results...)

Am I a glutton for self-abuse?  I think so, because, even after struggling for many hours to
get a scene right, having to make changes numerous times until the program performs the
functions in the way I want it to, I always go back to this program time and time again to make
yet another attempt to create a scene that has haunted my imagination and just won't leave me
alone. I think this program could be made better (heck, I know it could!), but since it is the only
one we have presently, I will continue to use it (barring any fatal brain hemorrhages that is...) and who knows, we may get lucky in the future and they might actually work some of the bugs out and it will genuinely be a pleasure to work with!

Some of the artwork I've seen here on this site is incredible, and I am
always curious and very impressed with how these artists have done such
an amazing job working with such a jaggernaut of a program...
Truth be told: I have only been working wih poser for a few weeks now
(patience my son, said the wise man, good things come in their own time...   lol)

In conclusion, I would like to say:  ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!     (lol)

live long and render,

M

Marcus I think you should start blogging your poser trials, that was a long post and normally I don't like that, but it was interesting and made me laugh a few times.

I actually thought about doing that myself, but I have yet to get past the "colorful phrases" stage, and into "proper articulation".

Welcome to the Poserverse...

Yes, they do fix most of the bugs... And then they make new ones!

Seriously, though. One of the things I find unique about Poser and that has helped it develop such a following is that its development has been so heavily influenced and molded by its user base. I think that more than anything else is responsible for loyalty shown to this particular software.
