Subject: What Gallery?

Kaji ( ) posted Wed, 15 August 2007 at 7:10 AM ยท edited Wed, 02 October 2024 at 8:29 PM

I had a complaint about an image that I posted in the Cinema gallery. They said it doesn't belong there. I use multiple tools in my workflow, and I usually put images in the gallery of the tool what does the most work or renders the image. Is this wrong? What's a good rule of thumb for this?

thefixer ( ) posted Wed, 15 August 2007 at 7:20 AM

I normally post to the gallery the I did the render in, but not always!

I use a lot of Poser items in my scenes but I always render in Vue but I'll post in both galleries depending on how I feel at the time!!

Sorry, no scientific rule of thumb!!ย ย

Injustice will be avenged.

I had someone say that you should put it in the gallery of the modeler. I feel like it's deceiving to put something in the Poser gallery when you can't achieve the effect using Firefly. I guess that someone will always complain. :)

Did you move the image? I couldn't seem to find it in the Cinema Gallery. There is one particular person who's done the same thing to several people, including me, and I'm getting weary of the self-appointed "guardian of the gallery". According to the Cinema mods, post your images where you feel they should go, and report any such comments to them. grrrr...

Maybe it was moved because the majority of the image was done using Poser content and the interPoser Pro plugin for C4D?

If I use the program Vue and 90% is done with Vue content, I post there.

If I were to use 90% Poser content however, and just rendered the image out in another program like Vue, I would place the image in the Poser Gallery.

Thats just me tho, each mod has their own preferences of what goes in their particular area..talk to the mod over C4D and ask what qualifys an image to remain in the C4D Gallery :)

I moved it because of a couple complaints. I used four tools for it, Daz studio, interPoser ltd, Cinema (+vreel skin), and Photoshop. See why I was hesitant to put it in the Poser gallery?

Ahh I see...well, it can be difficult at times figuring out where to put something like that I agree..next time you're undecided or not sure where to place an image, just pop in here and ask, we'll help ya ;)

As long as I've been a member here, the question of what goes where has been debated, usually after someone comes along and complains about some sort of reaction.
Also, it's always been a contentious issue that people around here tend to render Poser exports in other, more high-end software.
I don't do it anymore, but I can't really blame people for using, say, Cinema 4D. After all, getting a good render out of Poser isn't exactly easy, considering it's lack of tools and the non-intuitiveness of those that do exist.
I have my own opinions on the matter, but for now I'll be good and keep them to myself. :-)
But otherwise, for all those who complain in the insert software here forum/gallery about the Poser content, I'd have to say, this is, after all, a Poser store masquerading as an overall CG art site, made popular by the sheer demand for quickie soft porn CG material/models, and nobody should be surprised if and when this Poser thing invades his or her sanctum.
Poser rules the day here. Tragic, considering the available bandwidth and the exposure, and the fact it could be so much more, but I digress.... Personally, I think every Gallery should be labelled such as "Poser with..." and "Vicki rendered in..."
Hmm... off track again. :-)
In summary, do what you want. If people don't like it, what does it matter?

It doesn't :) There is a reason I like this place better than CGS, the people here are nice! ;)

I have had similar comments when I started using C4D. I still use poser figures (via IPP) in my works but the scene is usually created, lit and rendered in Cinema4D. The Cinema4D mods (cartesius/kromekat) are very down to earth on this matter and I tend to follow their opinions. Sorry to hear you had some troubles.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

True, for the most part people here are nice, but it depends on what you're looking for when posting something.
personally I like CGS for the honesty you can get there - often brutal, but always accurate. I've posted LightWave WIP's and screenshots of problems there (not under this username), and have gotten replies from "You're going aboiut it all wrong", to, "this sucks, give it up.", and everything in between.
That place has made me want to reach in through my monitor and strangle people at times.
But, they've always been right, after I thought about it for a while, and I've learned far more (and seen others do the same) from those comments as opposed to a thousand "Whoah, dude, this is totally kewl!" comments that one is more likely to get here.
It's all in what you're looking for when posting an image, I suppose - One either wants to build a fan club for oneself, or get some serious feedback from some actual working pros - people in the industry, who really know what they're talking about.
Brutal at times, yes, but the art world in general is brutal.

Kaji ( ) posted Sat, 18 August 2007 at 12:34 PM

I think they're more brutal than accurate. I've seen them rip up people for using Poser just because it was Poser. Not because the composition sucked and no tips on how to improve the piece, just that he was a loser for using the tool.

Art is all about intent. Otherwise they wouldn't have crap that they do hanging in the Guggenheim. Somebody likes it. ;)

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 18 August 2007 at 12:52 PM

Well, yeah, CGS isn't exactly Poser-friendly, to say the least. This is probably the only really large CG site that is, for that matter, along with DAZ' site(s).
I guess it depends on what apps you're using, for what reaction you get. There's alot of hostility towards LightWave there, too, if you accidentally wander into the 3ds max section... ;-)

Model yourself a virtual voodoo doll and some pins. It doesn't accomplish anything, but it's fun. ;-)
