Subject: Help with "bones" :)

geep ( ) posted Thu, 20 September 2007 at 10:14 PM

Ok, it would appear that you have the "Untitled" prop SELECTED when you do the "Point At..." thingie ...

DO NOT DO THAT !!!

Make sure you have the MAIN CAMERA SELECTED BEFORE you do the "Point At..." thingie.

It would appear that you have caused the "Untitled" prop to move out of it's correct position in the chain ... no???

I don't use that camera control thing. I use the 3 icons above the scene window (see image).

I tried those controls you have pointed to, but nothing happens.

I'll just work with it at this large size and just move it left and right as I need to.  When it's finished I'll just rescale it to a more usable size.

By the way, shouldn't you be in bed?  It's late.  I'll just carry on making my individual names and we can pick back up tomorrow.

Scoot! Go get some sleep :)

EDIT: I solved my problem of having to scroll so far to the right. I deleted some of the props!  LOL I now have 12 props for a total of 24 links. I still have to scroll, but not all that much.

Yes, I'll be up for hours yet.  Total insomniac here :)

I finished separating the names into unique names and deleted the "link" and "clink:' groups.

Anyhow, let's continue ...

Check list:

  1. Are all the props in their correct positions relative to each other?

  2. Are all the links in different groups with unique names?

If yes to both of the above questions, then we can "glue" (Export >>> Import) all of the props together.

Are we ready?

I just went through all of the "props" listed and looked at the grouping tool.

For each prop of 2 links, when I select the first name in the Grouping Tool IE: "1", both links are red.  When I select the second name IE: "2", only that link is red.  Is that how it's supposed to be? If so then I'm ready for the next step :)

Use the GT ... and do this.

  1. Select group "1" ........... (both links are RED)

  2. Click the "Remove Group" button and click the small arrowhead to popup the list of groups

  3. Click on the "2" to remove it from the "1" group

Ok?

Now, the "1" group should only have the first (left) link in it
... and ...
The "2" group should only have the second(right) link in it.

Ok?

dg
;=]

We only want ONE link in each group>

Ok, I went and did that for all of them and now when I click on each name in each group only 1 link is red at a time.

EDIT: By the way, I'm sorry that this is taking so long. I'm not the brightest bulb in the store when it comes to learning computer things.  Frankly I'm amazed that I've gotten this far on this, or that you have had the patience to stick with me this long :)

CAUTION ... BEFORE we delete all of the individual props ...

Let's import out "Untitled" object and make sure it has all the correct groups, ok?

Good idea, what? ... yes, no, maybe ... ???

Hint:  Go through the individual props and make them NOT "Visible" on the "Properties" tab.

NOW, let's import our "Untitled" prop as follows...

But I'll go and make it all visible again and export and import the whole thing.

Hi Amy,

That is a good question ... and the short answer is ... YES!

First, we need to add "bones" to our figure and then ...
... we can create an IK chain for our chain figure.

Thanks for asking.
