Subject: Crosstalk?

flibbits ( ) posted Thu, 18 October 2007 at 3:09 PM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 6:34 AM

I have a pretty simple scene that appears to be having crosstalk issues.

From a blank scene.

  • Loaded Hiro3 to David
  • Loaded David body and head morphs
  • Injected a David character

Now when I load certain props they become part of the Figure 1 (Hiro) body, and I can't select certain parts of them.

Also, when some items such as hair are added, they conform to some distance above Hiro's head, and often stay put when the Hiro is put into a pose.  A small change in any dial for the hair makes them jump into place.

Is there a way to fix this?

Also, is it possible to change dial settings as an injection or as a character.  I don't want to have to keep starting from Hiro to get to this character.

Last question first: after you get you figure the way you want you can save it back to the figure library therefore you don't have to reinvent the wheel. About the hair: Hair comes in two flavors, prop or conforming. If using a prop hair, load it, it may position itself properly on the head, may not. Position it if needed then Parent it to the head. Conforming hair generally is set up to conform to a particular figure. If used with another figure, load, position using the Body, scale as needed to fit. Then you can use the Set Parent Command to parent the Body of the hair to the figure's head.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Thanks for the answers.

Any idea about the other props loading as part of Hiro's body?

The only thing that comes to mind is the props might be what is called..smart prop. That means it will position itself to whatever body part it was parented to when saved, if asked to save as a smart prop. It can be a bit confusing to find since you have to determine what is it parented to. It could be a sword in a sheath for example; the sword is smart proped to the sheath so it loads with it. To find the sword you would have to find the sheath then the sword. Not sure if I'm explining this easily or confusing you more.

That makes perfect sense.  Although I don't understand why a mediterranian villa, for example, would be parented to a figure's body.

This is happening a lot with scenes, such as this villa and with a roman colliseum.  When i add the prop scene, it becomes part of the body of whatever figure is selected.  Then none of the morphs for the prop are available because I can't select the individual parts of the scene.

Instead of:

Scene - gate
Scene - Wall

I get:

Figure 1 - Scene for every part of it.

I'll try to determine if it can be unparented.

I recommend loading your scene prop first, then the figure.  See if the problem still happens.

BTW, that ain't Crosstalk.  As an aside, Crosstalk was eliminated after Poser 4/Propack.

Can you load the mediterranian villa then take a look at all of the properties. I don't know if it loads as a prop or pz3 file. Sometimes a developer may use a control figure so they can parent things to it plus use mat files. Another thing that may help, when you load your Hiro figure, change the name to something you can identify easily. Then if you see something with the name figure you know it's not Hiro.

I'll try loading the figure as Hiro, and the other suggestions.

Another problem is if I try to drop the villa to the floor (it loads just above floor level) parts of it fly to different heights.

A couple of things could do that, the various pieces aren't parented to anything, you may have a control prop you haven't found. If there isn't one this trick helps a lot: new scene, load a ball prop load the villa go to the Heiarchy window and parent every part of the villa to the ball. Turn ball invisible and turn off cast shadows. Name Ball to Villa Control. Use it to movve the whole vill. The various other elements are still moveable. Want to scale villa, use ball.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

I think I understand this now.  As nickedshield wrote, the pieces aren't parented and thus parent to the first figure they find in the scene.

Loaded the mediterranian scene - chairs, pool, house

Loaded Hiro

Now the Mediterranian objects were all part of Hiro.

But they can be selected from the Props menu.

The hair issues are somethng different, and are fixed by parenting to Hiro's head, as suggested.

I think what might be confusing you a bit is the two menus, figure and body parts. OK, you loaded the villa, from the props menu you should see the name of the prop. Under the figure menu there should be nothing. Now when you load Hiro it will show up under the figure menu and the villa will still be listed under the body parts but it should not be parented to Hiro. If it was, move Hiro and the villa will move with him.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.
