Subject: Networking

How important is networking on a site like this.

What I mean by that is how many more 'hits'  would one get from having the spare time to IM and email lots of people. Chatting about eachother's personal lifes and 'making friends'?

Do the people whom have time to do this have a foot up on those that don't? Do the people who can manage to include all of this 'netwoking' get more hits from the 'work' that they put in 'looking for leads/contacts'?

Or is it just par for the course and no matter what you do and if you have spare time to devote to living a virtual life not really matter. Does everyone get their dues regardless?

IMHO, yes. Networking here will give you more hits. There is very much a situation of "You comment on mine, I'll comment on yours" I'm not saying its a bad thing, but it is there..

This site is huge with I don't know how many users, so I supposed is quite easy to get lost amongst the crowd.

If you like getting a lot of comments on your work then it is a very good way of achieving statistics. However, one good critical coment is worth more than ten "ooo nice" comments (which were given in "reply") in my book. I ignore the member name on the image when i browse the galleries and expect nothing in return. If what i post is worthy of comment then people will comment. The moment someone coments because they feel they have to is the moment my work stops atracting people because of purely the artistic merit the photo has...

Rich has got it spot on :)

One thing I have noticed is that if I upload an image on an evening, say 6pm (that's UK time!) I tend to get more comments than I do when I post one on a morning before I go to work, around 6:30am. I guess it's because we Brits are are minority here(?) and there aren't many on in the mornings and/or people don't browse far through the gallery maybe just the first few pages.

yep i agree ! I really don't have many comments on my pics (from 4 to .. 10-12) ..; but these comments are constructives ! and i prefer a lot !

Networking is a good idea, but - i speak for myself - i don't have enough time in one day to do everything i need + networking (chat, im, or.. )
