Subject: HOW to "save as .pz2" with an .mc6

jjroland ( ) posted Mon, 17 December 2007 at 10:40 AM · edited Tue, 04 February 2025 at 1:55 PM

Someone please answer this!!  It is absolutely driving me nuts.

When I open the .mc6 in notepad I don't have option to "save as"  anything other than .txt

If I change the file name (ie rename) from file.mc6  to file.pz2 it doesn't change anything except the name, the file is STILL a .mc6.  Is there some file conversion utility that I need to be using???

Thanks in advance.

Just change the extension when using "Save As..." and it will be saved thusly.  The second option, "Save as Type",  is just a display filter for the current folder contents shown in the file dialog box.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

I've been working on this program off and on for a while and its still deep in beta mode but it will convert material files into mat pose files. You can do a single file or batch convert a directory. It will also read compressed or uncompressed files.  There is an option to save as a compressed file but that doesnt work just yet. Its written in java so if you have a current version of the java runtime it will work.

Thank you for the replies.  It's nice to know how to just use the plain ol "save as" Kuro =D
As an added solution to this problem Ockham has a python script that will do this also.

(it's good to have more than one solution to any problem ; )

Thank you for the program link Onnetz and thanks for the text editor link ADP.

In notepad if you put quotes around the filename it will save it as whatever you name it.

Is there a difference between MAT pose files and Pose files?

jjroland ( ) posted Mon, 17 December 2007 at 12:54 PM

mat pose is the texture
pose is the pose

I think

But the textures are the same used in a pose. Like for instance, if you have a runtime with pz2 files, the textures for those files will be in you texture folder. It's just sometimes you get textures and no pz2 file. The merchant didn't save them to poses for convience so you'll need to apply textures manually in the Material Room.

You know how you can only apply materials in Material room? Is the mat pose the one you can only apply there or is it like a regular pose (pz2) file where you can apply in any room?

onnetz ( ) posted Mon, 17 December 2007 at 1:51 PM

basiclly a mat pose file is a material room file converted to be used in the pose folder so you dont have to go into the material room to apply it.

Oh so in the end it's a pz2.

onnetz ( ) posted Mon, 17 December 2007 at 2:08 PM

yes. to convert a material file to a mat pose file you change the file extension and about three lines of code at the beginning of the file. And of course put it in a pose folder.

Simple enough. Thanks.

Why not leaving the material file where it is? If you like to have something that helps flooding your pose folder, just do a "wrapper" (small pz2) containing a readscript statement.

I HATE this millions of MAT-pose files in my pose folders. I would love to see all materials in my material-room. At least if a product says: "Poser 5/6/7".

jjroland ( ) posted Mon, 17 December 2007 at 2:45 PM

ADP I think that would be nice for me as well.  I assume however that there are probably thousands of poser users who have never so much as opened the materials tab.

People would lose thier heads if they opened up thier pose folders and all those beautiful clickies were in another place : p

Poser 5 doesn't recognize mc6 files so you have to limit them to Poser 6 and 7
