Subject: Importing Vue 6 Scene into Poser Pro?

bishop666 ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2008 at 1:33 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 2:57 PM

 Hello:
I realize that there is a wealth of info regarding the importing of Poser material into Vue but I would like to know if it is possible to import a Vue 6 created scene into Poser Pro or Poser 7 and if so, how I would go about doing so?

BTW I tried exporting a scene in both 3ds and lwo formats but they did not import as such.

Thank you in advance.

Always import export for such programs in obj format, as it keeps the UV mapping info :)

 (yes I know some folks will decry that, lol, but obj DOES work better, in general)

Well, I saved the Vue6 scene by selecting all of the objects in the scene and doing an .obj export but Poser did not like the file.  It did not import any of the .bmp or texture maps, so, all I got was a colored matt (the plane)... basically useless. As for "scene" export, Vue only offers two options, 3ds and Lwo.  Not sure what else to do and after all is said and done it may not be possible to accomplish the desired task.  I might have more success importing the scene into C4d which I will try when i have more time to kill.

I am very open to suggestions if you have any other ideas.

Regards,
Ron

hm, weird!poserc an export EVERYTHING in a scene, including the actual textures, to a specific folder out put, it's done using the python scripts
in my own poser 6

-->File
--> Run Python Script (the search for in yer poser run time)
-->Python
--> Utility
--> Collect Scene Inventory.py

run that
then out put to chosen area :)

Hello:

I am trying to create scenery that can be imported into Poser 7 or Poser Pro for the purpose of animating a character within that scene.

I am not sure I understood the "Python"method described and which direction it was intended to export or import material.  In any event, I am hardly a Python expert and was searching for a more reasonable method to move a scene from Vue 6 to Poser if that is even possible.

Thank you in advance.

To be honest, I'm not even sure it's going to be possible to do it the way you are thinking.   A lot of Vue content is locked against export and some things won't export anyway - it would end up as a very high poly count which could well choke Poser.  Why not export the animation from Poser and render it in Vue ?

It would be difficult to construct the animation without the scene since the story board calls for the characters to move about the scene, sit, climb, etc.  If I were simply dealing with a planar space I could easily export the Vue scene as a PNG and import into Poser as a background but I need the scene to be 3D.  What about importing a Vue scene into another animating program, such as, C4d?

it might work I suppose provided none of the content is locked - that's more the realm of Vue Xstream though.  You can't export ecosystems though.  Could you not use something like proxy geometry in Poser to represent the Vue scene and set the animation up that way ? it's a lot of work though

 Hello Frank T:
As you indicated, it would be a lot of work to create a proxy scene.
From what I have seen posted on this forum, Vue Stream does not really work very well, otherwise, I would upgrade to VStream from Infinite.

It appears that Vue will not accomplish what I need, therefore, are you aware of any other software that could be used to create and or build environmental scenes (3D) that could be imported into either Poser or Cinema 4d ?

Thank you in advance,
Ron

C4D could do it pretty well from what I've seen of it.  I'd have thought most modelling apps would be able to do it.  Plus C4D if you use the interposer Pro plugin would do the animation much better than Poser can

 C4D can import a 3ds scene file but it does not import the texture and bit maps.  Creating an environment in C4d, although entirely possible, is a very time consuming process and one that I lack the expertise for and it is for that reason that I am searching for a means of creating an environment with the ease that one acquires with the use of Vue, Bryce or something along those lines.

I agree that animating in C4d is much more accurate and easier than Poser, particularly the new R11, however, I am still faced with the environment issue.  Of course, I can probably purchase an environment created for either program but I would like to maintain some level of control over the final result since alterations are a constant necessity; then there is the economic factor.

To be honest, I can't see an easy way of doing this - I'm no expert though so maybe someone else will have some ideas for you but I'm out of options I'm afraid - sorry

 Hello Frank:

I appreciate your thoughts,
There is a program called Teragen 2 but the final version is not available and there does not seem to be a way to bring the files created by the "preview"  version into either Poser or C4d.  The initial version of that program did have a C4d plugin but, alas, it was for C4d R6 (Read: ancient).

InterPoserPro does an excellent job of importing Poser scenes into C4d which is why I began my quest looking for terrain or environment software that could create 3D files for Poser.  DAZ productions has a considerable amount of material available for Poser import ... wonder what the creators are using to develop their scenes.

In any event, for purposes of expediency, I will begin searching for "scenes for sale."

Hello Frank:

I thought that you might like to know that C4d R11 accepts Lightwave scene files (info obtained from C4d Cafe).  I saved a Vue 6 created scene as an .lws and easily imported into C4d.  It isn't perfect, for example, the grass did not map out as seen in Vue but for the most part it is quite usable and includes most of the texture and .bmp maps.  The only part of the scene that did not come through was the sky but C4d has its own sky/atmosphere presets that work extremely well.

Thanks again for your input.
