Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 13 6:58 am)
I don't have mine yet. But that's mostly because I've decided to buy the full new version instead of upgrading, and because I've been so God-awful busy lately and don't need the distraction right now. And of course, as it turns out all my bills are due at precisely the same moment Vue 4 is released! Well, I'm a bit concerned about some of the glitches, but that's the lesser of all. But, I'll be Vue 4-ing along with all the rest of ya by next weekend, I'm sure. :)
"...I've decided to buy the full new version instead of upgrading"...Mike, the upgrade come in a whole brand new CD for the program and with an extra CD...and also a brand new manual. You don't install to upgrade over 3.1. From the look at it, looks like it does not come with a beautiful box thats all. Why are you buying the full version?
tesign is right. Vue4 installs in a completely different folder and doesn't overwrite any Vue3 file. In fact, as I understand it, there is NO difference between the full package and the upgrade except that you need your Vue3 serial number when placing the order in order to get the upgrade price. Isn't that nice? -SMT
I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!
I'm just a little worried about what might happen. Not to mention that each and every re-install of Windows will rely on both versions of he CD, remaining intact. And there are license things I wonder about, such as is it OK to have Vue 3 AND 4 at the same time? I'm still kicking myself for not having Vue 2, with all who ask about it and I can't answer, so I don't want to forget how Vue 3.1 works, and I DO want to have an ongoing referrence. :)
Just thought this info might be useful. I copy all my vegetation over to the Vue 4 plants folder (Vue 4 comes with 30 of them...I think). When copying, I did not overide the new ones. Every piece is working. I believe some of you have had trouble getting them all to wotk. P4 import works fine except for the .bum thingy...what's the solution? Vue 4 already crash twice in Win 98 and three times in Win2k...LOL!..same old story.
Ack, I posted here, but it seems to have vanished! Anyway, I did have a chance at last to install and fiddle with Vue 4 a bit, and so far, so good! I installed 4 to a different drive so I didn't have to worry about anything getting overwritten. Then I copied my Plants folder over to 4 (not allowing files to overwrite), and all my plants work great in 4. I haven't tried the PZ3 import yet. The upgrade route provides a special price discount to those who have purchased prior versions (or Bryce 4 in the case of the side-grade). What a person receives is the full program, whether you've owned prior versions or not. As with Tesign, mine arrived as manual and set of CDs wrapped in protective cardboard. No box package, but that's okay with me since I never keep the boxes anyway. As for having more than one version installed, Lynn explained recently (on the Vued'Esprit mail list) that while it's fine to do so (you've paid for each version, after all), there's no special support if there is trouble trying to run both at once -- if anyone would try to do that! :)
Hey! I just realized, I can get the full version via the bryce upgrade and save some cash at the same time! I wonder if that's "kosher" or not? Well, you know, considering.... Actually, Varian, one thing I left out is that I am also planning on getting a new system soon, too. My PC, a Compaq with a 600 mhz Athlon was really top o' the line a year and a half ago, but seems to be kinda outdated now. Go figure! Well, I won't get rid of it when I get a new system, but will probably end up using it for those "ultra" renders, so I can have it tied up and still be able to do computer-like things on my new one-- hopefully a dual 1.5 ghz Athlon system with Win NT or 2K... gotta check the prices thoiugh, and I'm going to Comp USA later today to have a look at what's new. :)
Cool Mike! My system was also pretty tops when I first got it (about 4.5 years ago), so it's a real dinosaur now in comparison to what some others have. If you end up with a dual Athlon -- oh my, you are going to be Mr. Speedy! :D As for the side-grade, no reason you can't take that route, but I think the $-saving is about $10 more if you just go for the upgrade from 3.1. Unless you want two licenses, of course, and then sure you can go both ways. :) My understanding is that if you want to run two copies (like on two different machines), then you'd need two licenses.
Great news Varian...you have got it at last. Sorry I've been off line to give the old crate a fresh install from scratch :) Cheers

Vue 4 arrived here today! Just under one week from France to me. Two CDs, beautiful manual, a little larger than the previous manuals and with an INDEX in it! :D I was going to wait for my new system setup before installing, but I also just learned today that my new system won't be here for almost a week yet. Gee. Looks like I'm going to have to install Vue 4 on my current system after all. big grin
