Subject: Anyone else try the D/S Setup tools?

Diogenes ( ) posted Wed, 03 December 2008 at 8:22 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 9:58 PM

Anyone out there try the new Daz setup tools, and export the resulting rigging in the cr2 exporter?

I have never used D/S much at all but these new setup tools have weight mapping!!!!!!!! From what I am reading you can use them to set up the rigging and export it in a cr2 for Poser. Poser has driven me insane with no weight mapping. It makes me crazy trying to get the falloff zones just perfectly placed.

I jumped on these new tools for D/S hopefully they work as claimed and can export a Cr2 for poser.

Smith Micro, if you're listening,  PLEASE, PLEASE, put some weight mapping capabilities in Poser 8.

Got them but haven't had a chance to check them out yet.

Diogenes ( ) posted Wed, 03 December 2008 at 11:15 PM

Been playing with them, especially the weight mapping and joint tools. Yippeeee! Oh my, soo much easier to set the joints up I'm tickled pink.  Months and months of fighting with poser rigging, pulling my hair out, kicking my computer, on the verge of giving up completely.   With these new tools I'm in heaven, I feel all warm and giggly, I just might cry with relief.

Haven't tried the export cr2 yet but it looks like it might just work. They say that M4 was rigged with these tools, and he works in Poser.

Just amazing how much difference just a few more options on the joint tools makes.

Cheers,

Mike.

Tell me about it. Once DS comes up with dynamic cloth, Poser goes on the shelf. Even with
SR3, it's still a crash happy mess. Hopefully SM will come up with a more stable successor,
AND with a more modern interface. Poser has the worst one in my tool kit.

I've wanted to try figure creation ever since I got hex, but I'm still working my way up to it so I haven't got them.  When I looked at the tools when daz released them, they seemed incredibly expensive so even if I get to the point I start making figures, I'm not sure I'd want to spend that much.

Besides poser, how do they compare to some of the other alternatives?

Well, 3DS Max has many different options for rigging and much better weight mapping ect, but you also can't use it in Poser. I don't know about any other rigging options that will work in poser. Read a few comments on something called riggbox. Just the Daz rigging tools  by themselves though are only 20.00 and are enough to do most rigging. It's the Pro bundle that's 125. bucks. I got the bundle because with it you can easily do all the erc and set up your magnets, make morphs that span groups ect. But you're right it's spendy. But I gotta say I would pay twice that tacked onto poser's price if poser had some tools like them just to save myself the horrible nightmare of using clumsy inadequate tools for something as delicate and precise as rigging and joint settings. It's like trying to paint a masterpiece with a broom.

cheers,

Mike.

I'd love to know how the hell they are turning weight maps into twist-bars, bend-angles, and spherical falloff zones (which, outside of D|S would be absolutely necessary as Poser no comprendo 'weight maps')!  Going the other way, easy.  Going from weights to procedural (and interdependently complex) inclusion/exclusion/falloff regions is another story completely.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

Don't know about that, but I DO know that a few options on the joint editor MUST be checked
for Poser compatibility. If they aren't checked, it causes problems within Poser. rbtwhiz has
some nice tutorials on using the Tool Set with more on the way.

Check his Youtube page to see them. They are quite good.

Although DS does seem to use weight maps internally, and the Joint editor displays the weights of each vertex (with several display options), the tools are manipulating more-or-less standard Poser joints (as noted, the tools do allow a couple of liberties that Poser doesn't if you aren't planning to export) and the weights are derived from the angles and/or spheres applied.

Diogenes ( ) posted Thu, 04 December 2008 at 5:45 PM

Yes but you can actually see exactly what is effected with your zones and you can move. translate, resize your zones directly and easily. Plus you can actually use the Y rot on the zones and still use X and Z, try that in Poser. These Daz tools make it easy to set and adjust your zones regardless of how they do it and that's all I care about. Results it takes me days if ever to get out of the poser tools I can do in an hour or two with the Daz tools. Poser rigging tools suck period.

Man, I'm really loving these tools. So much you can do with them like setting up things like hand grasp and fist controles, and so easy to do, all automated. You can make all your inj/rem files all at once. You can send out your posed geometry make your JCM' right across group boundries pop them back in and load them up all at once, no bothering with each effected group, it does it all in one operation. And the cr2's that the exporter makes are so clean, they come out not even half the size of the ones from Poser. Adding alternate geometries, everything you need to setup a new figure right there.

Mmmm,M4 the base figure doesn't have ANY hand grasp, or fist controls.  Maybe they just left them out, (Which most FREE figure DO have,BTW) or rigged him in something else.  Or just forgot to include them, or included his hand controls with his wiener package!  OMG! :lol:THAT would be thought provoking!

Hi JOELGLAINE

LOL!!!  I just spewed coffee all over my key on that one!  How much did the M4 base cost?

BTW did you get my e mail?

JOELGLAINE ( ) posted Fri, 05 December 2008 at 1:23 PM

Yeppers! I'm not sure what to do, but I'll sitemail ya.  M4 didn't cost anything, but most free figures have hand grasp controls.

Even if they have no weiners to grasp.

Excellent!  I'm having a Poser emergency right now!  I'll try and get it under control then check my site mail.

The hand grasp shouldn't have been a problem for them.  I wonder why they didn't include it.  Have you tried manually grasping M4's hand.

Diogenes ( ) posted Fri, 05 December 2008 at 2:26 PM · edited Fri, 05 December 2008 at 2:33 PM

That is strange, no hand grasp. Cause these tools make it very simple and easy to do.

I guess I should get back to work on my figures and the new rigg, but couldn't help checking out these tools, glad I did, I'm going to use them.  More learning to do to use them properly but they're pretty straight forward.

Hey Pat, did I tell you I found another way to use the hiphandle thing? Well it's pretty cool, I'm gonna post it pretty soon, want to rigg up some of the older figures with it give them some new life.

No, I know it's horrible of me, I should finish one thing first. But was out of work for awhile and was working terrible, long hour, hard jobs, not much time for Brad.  But I'm really liking this new hip rig, it's more complicated to set up than the other one but it can do some really cool things. I'm wondering though if users will take the time to learn to use it or not.

Hey I picked up the thing yeasterday, pretty cool.

Well,  I've got to get back to my Poser emergency,  for some reason I can't access my runtime...

Trying to paint a masterpiece with a broom sounds a little difficult.  20 bucks for the basic rigging tools doesn't sound too bad, but if those extras are worth it, I think I'd be iffy on the whole thing.

It is terribly difficult. I got so desparate at times I'd have traded my mom for some better tools.  LOL.

I was going to pass this Daz|studio plugin, but now that everyone seems so pleased with, I'm convinced to try it. I have thrown too many curses on poser's setup room.

Best regards,

Bopper.

I bought the full toolset before the creator had even finished the documentation. If only Daz knew how much I would have paid for these tools.

I tried Greenbrier's Toolbox and found the display slow and halting and the falloff zones were even harder to position than in Poser.

Anyone who has spent months (if not years) trying to rig a figure in Poser should leap at the opportunity to use the Daz Studio rigging tools. This tool set exceeds Poser’s capabilities. It will speed up the rigging process dramatically.

That being said, I recently made modifications to one of my figures in Poser 5 Setup, simply because it was quicker to use something I already was expert in.

Super tools. Everything for creating a figure all the morph setup, ERC, a way to organize and catagorize your morphs. Most impressive, And they work for poser products as well.
