THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Needed: Imported Bryce sized box

dyret ( ) posted Sun, 14 December 2008 at 2:32 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 10:02 AM

Pumeco tells me that I can't use the bryce box with the prorender system. So I tried to import the daz studio one. That doesnt fit the bryce primitives. Any tips?

Have you try to import via Daz Studio button the box?

the bow primitive in daz studio is a different size than the bryce primitives. for example: if i set up a cylinder in bryce  that is 20x20x20 the daz box with the same masurments will not fit the bryce cylinder

20.48 BU (Bryce Units) = 0.401569 meters for a D|S primitive brought into Bryce via the D|S link.

...unless they're talking about a very old tutorial that showed you how to map a (I think) Bryce 4 box on the outside of a cube...is that it? It might have been Brycetech, around that era

sorry i have been so long without any reply. the trouble with the daz box is that its calculated differently. that means that if i try to calculate its position in bryce it will be wrong compared to the other bryce primitives size and position.

You know? I'm not really getting a handle on what your problem is. If you import something into Bryce you can re-size it in Bryce. If at the time you import, your object is the wrong size, what is your problem?

as my picture shows 20 daz studio units are smaller than 20 bryce units. that means i'm not able to do the right calculations

dyret ( ) posted Sat, 20 December 2008 at 12:01 PM

but... i'll not bother you guys any more

From your picture I can see that there are differences, but by using the attributes grid [A] this is easily corrected in Bryce.

ok, i think i get the problem, the cube of 20x20x20 has different boundaries then the 20x20x20 cilinder, while you would expect the edges to meet, since.. they're the same width.. thats strange indeed.
If you size 2 primitives the same size, you'd expect them to have the same size, i totally agree.

However.. the default bryce cube isnt 20x20x20, it is actually 20.48 x 20.48 x 20.48... might not look significant to add the decimals but it is :) maybe thats the prob?

try makin the cube it 20.48x20.48x20.48.. does that solve it?

dryet,

I think I might have a solution to your problem...

Try this...

  1. Import the cube from DAZ studio via the button on the create bar (with an S on it)
  2. Create a normal  cube from with in Bryce.
  3. Select the Bryce Cube.
  4. Edit the material to your liking.
  5. From the edit drop down menu, click on "copy matrix".
  6. Select the DAZ Cube.
  7. From the edit drop down menu, click on "paste matrix."

You will see that the DAZ Cube has changed.

Go ahead and try it... I'll post the screen cap in a bit.

You got to try it in person. Don't rely on the screen cap as I am not so good with placements. I just wanted to show it could be possible.

I was going to before I posted, but I've never used DAZ Studio and when I clicked the 'S' thing, I got the rainbow spinning beachball of death, so I gave up.

ok. thank you ALL for all the replys. Sorry to say none of them solved MY problem. LOL. I'm hoping to make a box wich I can use. Happy new year everybody!

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sun, 15 February 2009 at 7:33 PM

One other idea: you could go to wings3d, make a cube and a cylinder in there... and then do whatever it is you want to with them after importing them to Bryce.

Just spotted this!

dyret, the good news is understand exactly what your problem is, the bad news is that I'm not sure it's fixable.  I've never bothered with it before because I generally just import everything into Bryce for rendering so I've never needed to match the scaling to Bryce primitives.

I'll try to find a solution.

EDIT: Great to see you playing with Pro-Render ;-)

Pumeco: I'm glad you understand my problem. Big sigh of relief from me. I'll have to look into wings. I'm not skilled enough to make the things I want in bryce. So Bryster, gather the the logs and have the matches ready.

Why not import both a box and a cylinder?

What do you need them for anyway? - there might be another way to get what you want and simply bypass the box and cylinder altogether.

Well, I gave it a bash last night but I'm sorry to say I can't import a cube without it gaining that buffer space 'round it, sorry mate.  I can't even imagine why it's set up like that in the first place, it goes against the ability to line-up stuff on the grid, and Bryce is generally well set up for that sort of thing.

dyret ( ) posted Sat, 14 March 2009 at 7:30 AM

thats the weird thing about it. and also bryce default measures. 20.48??? why??? oh well. thats life. i'll have to become a herretic(or heretic?) thanx for the time pumeco.
