Subject: CP site format - why didn't they listen to me?

estherau ( ) posted Tue, 10 February 2009 at 5:45 AM · edited Sat, 02 November 2024 at 10:33 PM

They must really think they know better. I surely can't be the only one who has written to them and told them their site is hard to navigate, their gift certificate or vouchers are more trouble than they are worth and their little icons of their product are hard to see.
I mean the least they could do is have the new releases heading (it's on the left side about half way down) in a bigger font and a different colour so one can see it easily.  Everytime I visit the site I have to search for that link.  that is the first thing I look for when I visit their site.
I told them all this many months ago but it hasn't changed.  I only browse that site for a few minutes then I leave.  Well maybe others like the format - although I find this hard to believe.  We shall see i suppose over the next few days with this thread.

in the recent past they basically "hid"  the freebies. You really have to know how to tweak the engine to find freebies. I know that's CP's perogative, it is a commercial site......but it sure loses some interest for me being so more and more commercial over there.

oh yeah  also they have forum moderators whose job it is to jump into threads and  sell ,sell, sell. did you know that ?????

I've pretty much given up on CP.  The last straw was trying to change my email.  It just won't accept my new mail and keeps reverting to the old one.   Their advice was to follow the steps I was already doing so nothing changed even after I contacted them.

I know it can't be me because I've been online for over 10 years, managed to change my email on all other sites and can follow simple instructions at the very least :)

Greebo ( ) posted Tue, 10 February 2009 at 8:18 AM

I loathe the CP site. It's a pita to find anything and it's soo slow to load. The only times I've bought stuff from there is when someone else has posted a direct link to a product.

I've never liked that site because I can't find anything. It's not very user friendly at all.  So far as posting in the forums, frankly until I saw a link here directing to a forum, which at the time only pssport members could access, I didn't even know that they had a forum.

I avoid that place like the plague because it's an exercise in frustration to go and find anything there.

I just wanted to address these comments.  CP has been making a lot of changes and efforts recently to solve exactly these problems, and it's possible you may have not noticed them?

CP has actually taken big leaps in the past 2 months to clean up the navigation and the product categories and move things around to where they should be.  We actually have listened and made it easier to find clothing and character sets, and recently have put the new releases links right at the top of the left navigation where they are quick and easy to access.  There has been a giant manual audit going on with the catalog to make sure that things are where they are supposed to be, and we are working with our vendors to address many of the other things users have mentioned.

There has always been a link in the navigation to all the freebies, with the newest released at the beginning, and the front page box was better formatted to show off the freebies and the vendors that donate them.  There has been no attempt to hide them, in fact, we have been trying harder to spend more time showing off the hard work that people are donating to the market, and trying to get them the attention they deserve.

Also, the CP Forums doesn't have moderators...just a few staff members that pop in now and then to answer questions and share products and post about sales.  One of the purposes of the forums is to be a place for information and CP is not unique in this.

CP is working hard on being a better marketplace, and we listen.  There have been lots of changes recently, and lots more coming...We appreciate your input and sharing your feelings.  I hope you will take a moment and give CP another look and see we have addressed many of the things you mentioned.

Acadia-

I'm unsure what you mean when you say it's hard to find things.  Can you tell me a little more about what you have trouble looking for?  There has always been a link to the forums in the top navigation from the front page, and I'm unsure how to make it more prominent.  I'd really appreciate some feedback here on how you think CP could better assist you in finding things and what particular things you are looking for that you can't find.

When you say the site isn't user friendly, can you give me specific places you feel this way?  It would be very helpful to address the issues if we knew where you were having issues.

Thank you,

Greebo- Can you tell me a little more about why you think it is hard to find things on CP?  Can you tell me when the last time you visited CP and had slow loading issues was?  We upgraded our servers in the Fall and haven't had many comments about our speed, so I'd be interested in knowing more.

Esther-

Can you tell me more what you mean about hard to navigate and what you are trying to navigate to?  You mention our format...I'm not sure how ours is different than other webstores.  It would be great to know why you find ours more difficult so we can address that.

For icons, do you mean product images or the sale icon?  Did you know that CP has multiple different views for product displays?  You can click on the icons in something like "New Releases" and get almost 10 different views...icon, display, lists...and lots of different icon sizes...one I think is 200x200...

I do apologize, we recently moved the New Releases link to the top, in order to address the issue you mentioned.  It is also bolded out.  If you hadn't visited CP in a few weeks, then yes, it was in a different place than last time, and I'm sorry.  Hopefully from now on, you and other users should be able to locate it easier, and we appreciate the feedback on this.

We no longer sell gift certificates, but perhaps you are referring to promotional coupons?  Can you tell me more about what you mean "more trouble than they are worth?"

Thank you,
Tori

To be honest, I visit CP nearly dayly as i have a list of sites I visit each and every day but often I stop CP as the time until the pages are fully loaded is huge. I just checked it and the first page needed 50 seconds until my browser said ready. That's nearly the same time you need when you change to other pages within CP. For ReRo it took 20 seconds for the start page to be fully loaded.

I often can't find items in the Marketplace here that I know the name of-I have to Google it.  :glare:  Same with RDNA.  At CP I can usually find stuff, and to find the freebies there, I click the Free Items button on the home page.  DAZ is probably the easiest to navigate overall.

50 seconds? somethings very wrong there.

by icons I do mean the product images;  I will go and try and make them bigger and let you know. I haven't tried that for a long time.
Well the new releases heading needs to be in a different colour and bigger.  it is the first link I go to and it is difficult to see (still).  I have tried coupons in the last few months and whereas it looks as if I have coupons, when I try to put them in they often don't work.  Probably expired or for the wrong thing I guess.  Now I am someone who goes to daz and rendo and has no problems at all with their coupons for stuff.
In the past I have had trouble with CP accepting my email addy but maybe this is fixed now.

with respect to starlet and other staff from CP, I understand your guys' frustrations, but have you brought this up at their forums?  I know that I have about as much pull over there as they have over here.  Which is none.  I mean, I can be as frustrated as I want at any site...but, if I'm not actually bringing it up in their forum or feedback, it's not going to matter much.

Hmm.  Can you send me a personal message about this?  Are you certain the person was a staff member and not just an active forum member?  There are maybe 3-4 of us that post there, and only ratscloset would address any technical questions and it doesn't sound like him to answer that way.

(Thanks jenX...no comments in our forums, only here, so I can't answer there.  I appreciate you letting me address this thread.  I'm trying to keep it non-salesy and didn't link to the different views and just address the questions and comments directly.)

Funny that you bring that up.... did you ever notice the huge amount of unanswered questions at their own forums? I asked a question 2 weeks ago and no one replied. I asked the same question here and someone FROM CP answered the question within an hour. At times it seems like the staff is more active here then they are at their own forums. Since smith Micro has taken over the CP staff really behaves weird at the own forums, as if they're not allow or at liberty to reply.

As for the topic, I do find CP one of the most easy sites to navigate and find stuff. The search function actually works and give you waht you're looking for. Here at Rendo I find it hard to find items I'm searching for, a search often gives you many items not even remotely related to the subject searched on. Since CP has changed some things recently I do find the site even better and more logic set up then it was before. I don't see a problem with their voucher.git certificate system, is just as easy to use as everywhere else.

I do like CP, easy to navigate, thoughtful setup. A lot better then most poser related sites, imo.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

people still visit CP all the time anyways no matter what they say here....  myself included.
In fact I just bought something over there ...what was it ...shoes or some such....recently.

Also while you have requested a personal message from me on the sales push issue -I must decline.

Esther-
In a few moments, you will notice the New releases link is now larger, and in a different color...and so is the word "free" so you can locate that link easier.  Hope that addresses some of the concerns here!

A couple of things I notice about the Forums;

A, Except for Ratscloset and sometimes jcozy, I see little or no Poser Support answers or suggestions. One would think that at the Official Home of Poser, there would be some Poser Staff dropping in to assist with Poser Program help.

B. I see very little CP Merchant participation in the Forums as well.
Except for a very selct handfull of CP merchants, I see little or no Merchant participation regarding customers trials and tribulations with their products.

Regarding the CP Main Page, I find it as crowded as 100 pounds of apples in a 10 pound sack. Why not break this down into a few children pages? At the moment that huge Splash in the upper LH Corner is covering up the Big Deal and encroaching on the Search Box.

The Search Engine is like a crap shoot. I have actually typed in the name of content before and it was baffled and could not find it.

There is a serious lack of Readme Files and Product Contents in many of the Promo Pages.

PS: Yes, I do shop at CP the most of any Poser Content Store.

At least they've fixed the mouse-over problem on thumbnail pages where moving the mouse over them caused them to go blank and reload. The CP store is slower to load than the other big stores. When I bought something over the weekend, during the First Friday sale, thumbnails and images were excruciatingly slow to load, but that could have been due to the volume of people looking at the site during the sale. They seem to be loading faster today.

Personally, ratscloset has always been very helpful when things went sideways for me at CP.  The lightbox (I assume that's what it's called because any time you mouse over it, it says "Lightbox Disabled") is sometimes incredibly slow when moving through multiple images.  This seems quicker since the recent changes.

I also find that CP seems to accept pretty sketchy info from vendors - if I can't figure out what's on offer, I just move along.  I think their search is one of the best, although I also like the rendo results from multiple areas approach.  I used to spend much more there (time and $) but I tend to keep coming back to rendo.

Oh and one other thing, I think it was great that CP and rendo were able to play nice and get the list of rendo items purchased at CP updated on the rendo site.  I'm afraid that just reinforced rendo as a favorite, since so many of my CP purchases were really rendo product.  I think they (rendo) came out ahead on that decision.

I use Carrara, so the poser-centric universe there is not always useful to me.  Given the differences in lights, the landscapes, and phenominally faster render times, I could never go back.  I still look now and then though.  I even picked up Poser 7 Pro on sale a while back - still haven't installed it.  I never use the forums there - these seem more responsive.

I can understand that everyone has their own personal viewpoint on dealing with Content Paradise, but I don't believe posting in the forum at Renderosity is the way to go.  I'm going to lock this thread, and, if you have any more problems with Content Paradise's forums or website, I would suggest you take it to their forums, rather than here.  I know that sometimes, workarounds can be found by going to your peers, but this is a situation that looks like could have been circumvented by everyone actually going to the root of the problem.
