Subject: Conforming Clothing Tut For Newbs?

Chonan ( ) posted Wed, 13 May 2009 at 12:28 AM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 5:45 AM

I have had a great start to poser.  I've went from renders that looked like crayon art, to some pretty decent stuff.  I got lights down, I got the settings down, I got the envirsphere working, I got into shading with the vss, there's many things I can do at this point. Yea me!  lol

But what I cannot do is get any cloths to fit.  Period.   I use v4, but never the default morphs.  I make my characters heavy, curvy, so I put the clothes on and they don't fit.  I have searched and searched for a solution.  I bought "Conforming Clothes" failed with it after spending hours and hours.  I tried magnents, I bought clothes that were morph injected, I can't get anything to work.  I grow tired and I grow frustrated.  Doing a google search returns infinity results.  But where I ask, is the one difinitive, step by step guy to making conforming clothes fit in Poser 7?

There's tuts for making conforming cloths, or fitting conf. clothes in poser 4.  I'm sorry to be so frustrated.  The time and money I spent on my own stupidy is killing me.  So I just have to ask for help.

If for example i put on the cloths and then morph v4, then use the same morph for the clothes = fail.   Then I'll break out magnents, and if I pull and item over the stomach, the zone moves her hair.  I didn't attach the magnent to the hair, I did it to the clothes!!?  Little things like this are always happening to me.  I suck.  I've tried a hundred ways, all yeild fail.

your problem is that most clothing makers dont support the very curvy, heavy morphs :(

This product has had a lot of good reviews - Morphing Clothes

It apparently adds any morphs the figure has to the clothes, so in theory you could clothe your curvier figures this was. I don't have the programme, but I have read a lot of good things about it.

The program works very well.  I have used it for various models haven't had a misfit yet.

I would suggest Morphing Clothes too. Your problem is that the clothes don't have the same morphs as the figures. Morphing Clothes or the Wardrobe Wizard will create the needed morphs for you. This isn't always perfect (you would have to use a modeling software and your own modeling skills for that), but works well in most cases.

Keep in mind that there is a misconception on how clothing will fit for the final render.  Many believe a clothed model should have perfect form fitting throughout, front and back.  But those areas facing away from the camera are never seen in the final render and it doesn't matter if there is a poke-through present.  The convention for creating a scene should be populate your stage, pose your actors, then dress them in their clothing.  The final pose will reveal how much further work is needed to properly conform the clothes.  Many individuals install the model, dress them in their default position, then pose afterwards.

I'll add my voice to recommending Morphing Clothes, as well.  I haven't used Wardrobe Wizard, though, so I can't speak on that.

Morphing Clothes may well be the best thing since sliced bread, but don't overlook that the original poster has tried using clothes with the correct morphs in them:

Quote - If for example i put on the cloths and then morph v4, then use the same morph for the clothes = fail.

  • which shouldn't be happening. Chonan, could you give one specific example of a figure/clothing combination that doesn't work as it should? It sounds as if you're allowing yourself to become flustered by your failures, which is a good recipe for finger trouble. ;) As I said, if you're using clothing with the correct morphs in it, it should work. Let's go through it step by step and find out why it doesn't.

Thanks to everyone for the kind help.  I did get myself the program "morphing clothes" on your advice.  I played with it a little bit, but the results were the same.  It seemed to want to fit a little better, but still had skin hanging out all over.   I'll try it again tonight.  But for now, here's some examples of using character morphs on cloths as well as the character itself.

This is standard V4 with Luscious Curves Morph #6

The First Set Of Pics Is:

V4 With Mat > V4 With Clothes On > V4 With Morphs > V4 With Clothes Morphed Same As V4

This set is using "Hot Strike"

Second Set Is The Same Order.

Jasmina's Mellisa Dress Set Clothes Labeled As " Morph Injected "

I can see that in the cloth's morph dials, even though injected with the same morph as V4, the morph dials aren't changed.

JenX ( ) posted Thu, 14 May 2009 at 11:23 AM

What I would try is injecting the morph in the character first, THEN putting the clothes on.  That right there might even fix it, as some clothes come in superconforming.  Also, don't negate the use of the Magnetize poses in your main V4 folder ;)

I just tried it in that order.   V4 Morphed, Added Clothes, Then Morphed The Clothes.  Same result, not even close to fitting.

I cry a little inside with each new attempt and each failure.   ;)

Ok, I'm going to see if I can follow your steps, and get to where you are, ok?  Hang on :)

If you did use Morphing Clothes, select your morphed character, go to edit>copy, select the clothes and paste.  The morph values from your model will translate to the clothing.  Tweak as necessary.  It works, tried last night with a little something I was playing around with.

Ok, I think I know what you're getting at, and let me show you with renders :)

Ok, I loaded a character using all DAZ-created morphs, this is just from Morphs ++.

Now, since I don't have the exact outfits you're mentioning, I used one from one of the vendors.  Here's Jasmina's Wedding dress.  It....tries to conform.  It does.  This is before conforming the figure, btw.  It didn't get any better after hitting conform.

Edge of my seat here!   Bless your heart for the help to all, and especially to JenX!

As you were saying, I had problem getting specific morphs to work while in the Body part of the figure.  HOWEVER, selecting the parts with poke-through, and utilizing the obvious bodymorphs (in this case, Voluptuous, and a couple breast morphs, including Breast Droop) I was able to fit the dress to her body.

Hmmmmmmmm.  This is encouraging.  I will do a new test.  You're the best for the renders.  Much appreciated!

JenX ( ) posted Thu, 14 May 2009 at 4:00 PM

You're welcome :)

A Note:  Not all clothing items will work perfectly with all morphs.  There are some morphs that, for some reason, some clothing makers leave out.  I don't know why, since I couldn't model my way out of an open gate, but it's the truth.  And, sometimes, the morphs don't work properly.  A good thing to do in cases like this is just seriously fiddle with morphs, in both the positive and negative spectrum, scale values, and (I know, scary thought!!) Magnets.

FrankT ( ) posted Thu, 14 May 2009 at 4:08 PM

Even with clothes that have the morphs built in, I often find I have to do a bit of adjustment with the morph dials (or the morph brush, or even ZBrush if it's a real tricky one) Don't get discouraged though, also remember clothes don't have to fit where the camera can't see 'em :)
Doesn't matter how much pokethrough there is behind a figure for e.g so long as the camera only sees the front
