There had been some experiments with dynamic chains a while back, but needless to say I can't find the threads now.
As I remember it, they made a simple single sided ribbon with the links set along it. The links were set in the hard decorated group, so they followed the shape of the ribbon as it draped. The ribbon is made transparent for rendering, of course. For a very fine jewellery chain, you may even be able to get away with making your chain with displacement and transparency maps on the ribbon.
Dr. Geep went through the whole process of making a chain in the following thread. You need to scroll down. It's a picture tutorial.

First, model your chain (I use Wings but any modelling prog will be similar) Just make one link and duplicate and position till you have enough.
You also need a ribbon the same length as the chain. The important thing is that it must have one polygon per chain link with the joints at the junction between chain links.

This was exported as a new obj and re-imported into Poser. After flipping it upside down and positioning it as shown it was clothified as before and a few points at each end assigned to the constrained group. The cloth density was set to .1 for faster draping.
dadt that is beautiful work, very clever, and a great posting explaining it.
Thank you.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

For a few days now I have been struggling with "building" a chain for delicate use.(it is as piercing chains connecting a few different body parts but more like jewelry chains instead of say iron chains)
Now my problem is this(other then frustration)
I am working a link at a time. that is one.
Two I cant get them to hang just as I want them to...i.e. as they would hang when the body moves in a certain way.
Three, while I was thinking of building the "chain" then clothifying it to get it to drape right...when clothifying it flattens the item...is there a way to correct this?
Four...is there any delicate jewelry style "chain" out there for free?( I did a search in free stuff and found several EP chains but they are industrial style not jewelry style)
Thanks in advance for those responding :)
