Well, my name IS Diana.   :)

(I've been working on modeling my first costume for V4. I got the modeling okay. It's the figure setup tools that have been driving me bonkers.)

well.. got the mapping and texturing done, got 'em in the right place and saved as smart props.  I still need to rip the geometry, make a few more preset color combinations (only got 3 so far), make the d|s mats and package it all up.  The texture is very very light grey, much lighter than this silver color, most of the magic is in the bump and specular so these can be made pretty much any color.  I should have 'em done tomorrow.  (should - don't shoot me if i don't)  =)

They look great! And I was just noticing how much nicer Antonia's toes are than Vicky 4's...LOL. At least they aren't almost as long as her fingers ;o).

Wow, Fisty!  Great looking shoes!  I have some ideas I want to try with them this weekend.  I'll be moving sometime in the next week.  I think. Meh.

Antonia's toes look like a real human's toes! V4's are either to a more primative ape-like ancestor. or she was genetically engineered to play cards with her feet. LOLOLOLOLOL IMO.

I need to resave the silver and gold with lower bump, I think..  looks a bit too crunchy for finished leather...
Dark yellow is a very hard color to make look nice, but I want to have dark medium and light versions of the whole rainbow so I don't want to leave it out, someone will like it.

Dark yellow - like this? This is one of those colors that suffers badly without gamma correction.

I can post this shader in my free stuff if you want it.

That's more of a medium yellow..  I think I got something acceptable.  I don't do complicated Poser materials, feel free to make some mats that are more your style.  (remember, I'm a Studio guru/user.. I only venture into Poser when I have to)

bagginsbill ( ) posted Fri, 12 June 2009 at 3:43 PM · edited Fri, 12 June 2009 at 3:44 PM

Heheh. 12 nodes is not complicated. 440 nodes is complicated.

It's not like you have to study the setup. One of the worst problems with Poser that makes people avoid my materials is they think they need to understand the nodes in order to use it. I wish they couldn't look at the nodes at all.

This material is simple. You load it. You pick a color or attach an image. If you want more or less shine, you type in a shininess value as a simple number from 0 to 1.

I thought you were including Poser materials with it for the Poser users. :)

I am, they're 100 times nicer than the sorry excuse for D|S mats that most Poser users provide for us.. if they try at all, which is still uncommon.

Antonia is a community project.. I'm pretty good at modeling, I kick ass at D|S materials, I blunder my way through Poser.  I have made (so far) 34 material collections and 3 singles.. I will use these as a base for D|S materials and try to get them to look at least similar without having to use HSS or some other plug in... I'm not going to get exact 'cause I used double specular and base D|S 2 doesn't do that.

I make a lot of D|S mats for merchants that don't know how to use the program or don't know the surface tab well enough to get acceptable results, feel free to do the same for mine if you feel they are inadiquate.

bagginsbill ( ) posted Fri, 12 June 2009 at 4:23 PM

I may be reading you wrong, but your phrasings seem to indicate I've offended you?

I know Antonia is a community project - isn't that why I offered a Poser material?

Twice you've pointed out that you are a D|S material guru. I get it. We're all gurus here with different areas of specialization. You needn't keep reminding me - your work speaks for itself.

Nor have I said or implied that your Poser materials were inadequate. I was only responding to you saying "Dark yellow is a very hard color to make look nice". Since I felt like I know how to do that easily in Poser, I simply offered a render with a Poser material I already have to see if you wanted to use the material.

Twice you've told me to "feel free" to distribute materials for your items as I see fit. I hardly need your permission or consent to give away a yellow leather shader I already have that actually has nothing to do with your shoes. LOL :)

These are very nice shoes - I even would like to have them for myself!! The bumpmap looks cool, very realistic, especially with the metallic textures!

I, personally, will use them in Poser so I am happy with the Poser materials - but can wait until you finished everything you want to include.

I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!

And I am not strange, I am Limited Edition!

Are you ready for Antonia? Get her textures here:

I can wait, hate to but I'm in the middle of copying my 400gb HD to a 1TB so I can clean it, put my WinXP operating system on it instead of the 80gb drive.

The textures look awesome!
Wish I was as good in DS but I'm still struggling to just learn it a bit.

I've got a set of pz2 files I want to do in DS format and I had forgotten how to save them.

Then I asked in the Daz forum and got the answer so now I need to do that.
But getting decent shaders on them in DS is beyond me at present.

Maybe someday I'll be almost as good as you on DS materials, Fisty.

Just post pictures of what you have and I can suggest setting changes, I generally don't have to see the setup to know how it need to be changed unless you have a wierd light setup.
That will change with 3.0, of course, I need to start learning that and find a free compiler so I can try my hand at making the bricks.

I went and finished the whole business..  poor husband has been ignored since he got home, but he'll live.  I couldn't get the cool metalic look in d|s 'cause that's from the doubled specular.. I may make HSS mats that do that next week but it'll do as is.  (I really don't like making freebies that require plug ins, especially stuff like this where it's a stand alone prop, you could stick these on almost any human figure if you wanted to play with scaling and magnets.

Hopefully it'll all work, I'll have it packaged up in a few minutes.

I'm not 100% positive, Fisty, but I think at least one of Pendragon's free shaders has double specular available. Perhaps you could create your metallic settings with it.

Fisty ( ) posted Sat, 13 June 2009 at 10:46 AM

Black actually took more thought than the others 'cause that one has quite different settings.  I have a pair of shoes that very close to that IRL with like 1/2 inch (1.27cm)  heels.  Unfortunately they are about 10 years old and covered in paint splatters. =/

Antonia still needs some casual flats and some dressier heels, but I wanted to make something that could go either way first since she has next to nothing to wear.  Though I probably will not make heels higher than 3 inches (7.6cm) 'cause I think it looks rediculous.

ThespiSis - I am even more leary of using a freebie shader - I have a hard enough time keeping my hss and pw* current for version, and they're required to update their shaders every time Daz breaks them.

It'll all be moot in a short while anyway with 3.0, it'll be very easy to add as many alternate specular bricks as I want and anyone with version 3 paid or free will be able to use it.  These will actually be a good challange for me to figure out the new system of brick twisting.  And I do want to also learn how to write my own bricks but it's gonna take much more code diving than I'm used to so it'll take some learning.

That trip was an embarassment for all Americans because I got kicked out of the country for being in a bar-fight there.  Someone ordered Dolphin there, and I broke a bottle over his head.  I was drunk at the time, but still.  Not my most shining moment.

As you know, DAZ 3D don't accept materials as Poser.

Well, except for the ones that were included in the preview. 😉

And yes, there were only .mat files there. BluEcho provided .pz2 files, but they had a few errors, and also I changed a few things, so I didn't put them in the zip. I haven't really used DAZ Studio for rendering myself, so I wouldn't know how to prepare materials that work well in it. But if Fisty is happy to do something for D|S support, that's excellent.

gigirota: Just keep in mind that this is all in a fairly early stage, and that we're all no more than enthusiastic amateurs who do these things in their spare time. I've uploaded the previews mostly because I was hoping to get some feedback and interest people enough so that some would start developing content. I'd say that worked out pretty well, too. But at this point, none of us would claim that Antonia is anywhere near a finished, useable product.

There's a nice set of textures included with her in ODF's file locker.. however, like Gigirota pointed out, they are not accessable to 1/2 her possible users/developers/testers as they don't work at all in D|S or Carrarra.  (as opposed to pz2s which kinda 1/2 work)

Hi Fisty
Loved the shoes and textures.
Once again I am playing devil's advocate here so please don't be angry or frustrated with me..I thought I would throw this idea at the wall, like wet noodles, and see if it sticks.

Some time ago someone created a sandal with morphs that turned it into a moderately high heel shoe for V2. It had straps like regular flat leather sandals and the morphs raised the shoe to look like a summer hi heeled open toe sandal with the same look as the flats but with a higher. Nice set and very versatile. and of course, free!

DAZ also created many years ago, a morphing fantasy boot that gave the artist a huge selection of boot options to create from the morphs included. It was for V2 and M2 but the idea was wonderful and, in my opinion, well worth the added price I paid for  the boot set.

What I am driving at is if there is a way to take, say a shoe like this and through modest morphs and transmaps allow a few different variations for it to give the user base more variety for a developing figure like Antonia? I can see this with thinner heels and thin straps for the foot or multiple straps or even a transmapped weave tex or a higher heel or even a morph to make it a flat sole sandal.

What do you think?  :)
