Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 30 6:52 am)
I run on a Mac. At the moment I have the opposite problem - I cant start vue by clicking on the application icon in the dock. I have to keep it on my desktop and click there. This only started in 7.4,
was fine in v6 and in the earlier versions of v7 (complete).
E-on didnt help at all, they dont take much notice of problems specific to Macs.
Did you try pioneer, the basic version (free) of vue?

no, why should I? I started with Vue 4 and then upgraded step by step to Infinite since I think that ecosystems are a fantastic feature. There is nothing in that price category that compares to ecosystems, as far as I can see. I tried different plugins for C4D but you can not compare this to Vue's ecosystems. Everything worked more or less until version 7.2.1 under Mac OSX 10.5.6, then there was the update to Mac OS X 10.5.7 and to Infinite 7.4 and the problems increased. It has always been a quirky program for me, but 7.4 makes systematic working actually impossible, since I need a reliable program. Currently it is just trial & error and I am seriously considering to quit using Vue in the near future.

I didnt mean for you to switch to pioneer completely, just to see if the problem of closing the program remains. It wont solve your problem but maybe will give e-on some clues what the reasons are.I'm still on mac os x 10.4.11 so maybe it is related to the newer OS.
I do understand your frustration - I have no end of problems since I upgraded to v7 (see link). Some bugs have been fixed but just as many new bugs appeared...

Just looked at the attached link, it would take hours to read everything and understand what is written there. I found Lee Randall helpful and responsive, but I think he is no programmer and his influence is limited.
I'll try the latest 7.4 beta 43993 when it's an official update, and if it's still not working, I will not continue buying upgrades or maintenance, in hope it could finally fix the old bugs. I have spent alot of money at Cornucopia and my decision will not be easy.
For me 7.2.1 under Mac OSX 10.5.6 was the least buggy version so far.
I have similar problems and I think it is best to go back to 7.2.1. You can try out - this helped me a bit - is to change the preferences for display and change your settings "Enable Background Draw" to the opposite as it is right now.
Shooting down the application is not the worst that can happen, what goes onto my nerves is that often the whole system is corrupted and needs to be restarted the hard way.
Last remark, Lee is a "she" as far as i know.

Thanks Walter, didn't know that Lee is a she...
It is such a pity that Vue is programmed so poorly, imagine what it could do if it would run properly, on both, Mac and PC....
I rendered a little movie with millions of polygons, and I had no serious problems until 7.4 came out.
Maybe I will do that, return to 7.2.1, still better than what we've got currently. I was considering to upgrade to 7.5, but I read at cgsociety that it is not really better than 7.4
Well, you of course read only the negative comments normally. As someone in the registered user forum said very truely. The only truth is on your own system. Means you simply have to try out. what is happening on your own system. And pester technical support when something goes wrong.

I do not have this problem on my Mac Pro, you can check out my system specs in my signature below. This may not be Vue related but rather Mac related. Have you tried running a program like Tech Tools Pro or Drive Genius to check for sure? If not, I HIGHLY recommend both programs, I use a few of these better ones and find them quite valuable to have at my disposal.
I do know what you mean, I still have an open support ticket with e-on about the cloud layer issue in the "atmosphere editor" I am having and they only said they knew about the render time issues, but not what or when it would be fixed. Also, 7.4 does seem to have several bugs and there is another patch coming soon that is now in Beta as you know. One thing that does seem to be bad is even magazines like 3D World have written about the Mac as gaining wide popularity yet sometimes it takes a while for e-on and others to catch up.
Also, look for version 8 sometime later this year I am told as it is being shown in August at one of the shows. This is a BIG gripe for a lot of people I know in that it seems like e-on (and some others too) dosn't take time to make a ROCK SOLID version and fix everything and tweak what they have before moving on to another version with more features with the same bugs and/or new bugs. I know Mac users were REALLY upset at ZBrush for the way they handled things which was documented in magazines like 3D World. It may be too late for them to win back Mac users as many have found programs like Mudbox to do the job just fine and have better support from a company with more money like Autodesk does.
Let me know if things work out for you and if you have tried those programs to see if it may be something else besides Vue. Most have demos you can try and I would advise that. Otherwise I am at a loss to help.

I agree, but as of late I have noticed several people have been complaining about their support help when opening a ticket. Lee is only one person and usually the only one to respond. It seems e-on is operating on a shoestring budget and there is no REAL tech help except of course the PAID help. This was not the case before, but the past few months I have noticed a trend on the e-on forums and other sites complaining about questions either going unanswered or only briefly without any real solutions provided.
It would not surprise me to see them bought out by someone like Autodesk since they really don't have a program in that category.

Does anyone have this problem with 7.4 on a Mac?
When I close Vue Infinite 7.4 (no matter which version, tried them all so far, incl. the latest 43993 beta), it gets stuck in the dock, I see the spinning beachball and I need to force quit in the best case. It has also happened that my whole system got stuck...
I reported this to Lee Randall from e-on, but there is no solution or bugfix so far.
