Subject: Poser 5

Gang I'm in need of some help. I have 1GB of ram. When trying to render in Poser 5 if I add more thank vick and hair, it won't render. It gets stuck on "adding object". Do we feel this is a "needs memory" problem or a Poser problem?

Thanks!

While 1Gb isn't a lot for Poser, you certainly shouldn't  crash because of Vicky and hair.  Try a different doll and different hair, etc., just to see if the problem remains.

Post a screenshot of the scene preview, and a screenshot of the render settings.  Maybe someone will spot the problem.

It happens with everyone of them. Higher res textures alone freeze up poser as well.

I run win xp with 512 mb of real ram , and have the page file (virtual memory) set to system managed.  I didnt have problems with Poser 5 with sp2 loaded.

I only heard of 3D (for personal use) midway through Poser 6, but I believe there is a limit to texture dimensions in P5 which is less than that of P7 and later.  I wonder if that is the issue, but I don't know.

State the pixel dimensions of the textures which failed.  And hopefully, someone with P5 experience will jump in here.

What do you mean by sp2?  Stephanie Petite (generation 2), or does that refer to a service pack 2 (for P5 or for WinXP?)

Do you have all Service Releases installed? Also I would set the pagefile to manually 2048 and 2048 for both figures. Reduces the processorload a little bit.

I'm running Poser 5 with 3g (actually 4, but I've been told it only uses 3) of memory. I've also heard that sometimes if you have a reference to a folder that doesn't exist or is misplaced, it will cause 'memory' errors.

You might try reloading the file.

Yep.. how do you set the pagefile manually for the figures?

You have plenty of RAM for Poser 5 since Curious Labs only recommended 256MBs

Clean your computer via Cleanmgr or a good program like McAfee.
Defrag your computer.  Then try Poser 5.  Does it work, if no

Shut down your computer for about 10 seconds and then reload Poser 5, if it doesn't cure the problem. You probably will need to do a little troubleshooting.    Delete half of what you have does it run, if yes than it is something in the half that you just deleted, split that part in half, does it run, if yes than it's in the section that your removed.

When you find the culprit, are you using it with other characters?

This process solves about 95 percent of Poser or any other software problems.  Jan

It isn't a lack of RAM.  1Gb will not be overwhelmed by loading one doll and accessories.  Something else is wrong.

Quote - Do you have all Service Releases installed?

This is important, according to what I've read about P5, as it had serious bugs in its initial release.

Does anyone know where service release updates for P5 can be downloaded?

Ive ran Poser 5 on a Pentium 3 with only 386 Megs of PC 133 ram and didnt have this problem. Now granted if I used more than 2 figure in a scene it would run out of virtual memory and crash during rendering. but still I never had any problems with textures or hair props. Hell as it is now Im on a P4 with 1.86 gb of pc 5400 ram and I never have a problem with hair props or textures, I dont think its your hardware.

" Think I need a new Poser lol :)"

That was my first thought when you mentioned that you have Poser 5.  I have poser 8 and I can't imaging going back to anything before that.  But if you decide to keep your Poser 5 then you may need to uninstall then reinstall the program.  Sometimes programs or a file will become corrupt causing problems like the one you have.

If you have already tried the reinstall method then the only other thing that I think it could be is a registry issue where something in the registry is causing the problem.  Most of the time a registry cleaner will fix the those types of problems and they are safer than manually messing with the registry. Just make sure you get a registry cleaner that is reliable and from a reliable source.  Don't pick one of those registry software that you may have seen in an annoying pop-up that you didn't ask for.  If you have McAffee Internet Security then you already have one.  If not then you can go to Cnet.com to look at some reviews and pick a reliable one.

Oh I have no problem upgrading to 7 or 8 If I could. I'll try both of these. I'm still having that problem, so maybe one may help. Thanks!!
