a prop might render black when there is NO figure in the scene..
Try loading V4 or a figure anything .. and re render ..

The black figure you see is NOT the prop. the prop is the only thing in the picture there that is not black.
the clothing behind the prop IS a Figure, it conforms to near_me, and if I load near_me into the scene the clothing Still renders black.
Other ideas? Obviously something is wrong with either the material or the cr2. But the weird thing is, well what I described in the 1st post. Diffuse only, everthing is fine. Add a 2d map, the figure (of course only the material you have added a map to) turns black.
What do I check?
I second Bar Code's suggestion of loading a figure in there (other than the clothes). That's what I do when I've had this happen in the past. Now, I rarely work on a scene without some figure (other than clothes).

Quote - I'm too lazy to copy and paste the post above you drew, but here is a render of what I just said...
Not trying to be rude cause I know your just trying to help...but you just suggested for me to do what I just said I had done........
No worries. I missed your second post. That's what I get for becoming distracted mid post . :)

Make sure your jpeg has been saved with either Baseline ("Standard") or Baseline Optimized as the format option (in Photoshop that is, other progs should have similiar options). If you save a jpeg as 'Progressive' Poser will get confused and render it as black.

My guess is the geometry you're using has no UV mapping data.
Forget all this material for the moment. Start a new material. Set Diffuse_Color = 0, Specular_Color = 0.
Load a Tile node, and leave it at its default of blue and red squares. Connect that to Alternate_Diffuse and render. If it's black, you have no UV data.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Geep: I dont want it to emit light....but I'll try it
Snarlygribbly: All maps had been saved as Baseline "Standard"
BB: Thank you for dropping by, I just know you will figure this out.... I will try what you are suggesting but the objs have Uv's. I painted the maps in Zbrush, which have to have Uvs for me to export the maps. I have about 7-8 materials, for the different body parts, all in 1 to1 uv space. But again, I will try it out..
One more piece of info, I DO see the maps loading during the render sequence, meaning when I hit the render button, I see the maps load in text, along with lights, etc.... of course though, you see my results.
I'm going to the store, but I'li try any and all suggestions when I get home!!

Fair enough, if you're sure. I had exactly the same symptoms just two days ago. My new V4 character had black limbs! Spent several hours in frustration until I decided just to resave the texture map as baseline standard - and then everything worked. I was hoping the solution would be as simple for you, but apparently not!
Good luck!

But I did what BB said to do...Oddly enough I do not get black...I get Pure white. No shadowing, just flat white. This is what I would have expected to see if i had set ambient to white and value to 100.
I will render this suit in Maya or zbrush to be 100% it has uv's for you. I know they do, cause I painted the uv maps in 3d space. But heres a screen shot of BB's tile suggestion
BB is right. I don't know where the UV's went. I dont know how they could magically dissappear, but they did. So, when i opened the EXPORTED obj from poser and tried to see the uv map in Maya, there was nothing.
I took the original OBJ, placed it in the character folder next to the Cr2, deleting the obj that gets automatically created, and wammo. A working textured figure. Very odd. Never happedend b4. But I guess it wont stump me again.
Thank you BB for saying Uvs!!

It's a new day, I have a new problem!
I have here a figure (clothing) I am making. I have been in and out of Cr2 editor but I dont think I deleted anything important for materials, or features of materials.... but here is what is happening.......
If nothing is plugged into the diffuse the figure WILL be whatever color the diffuse is.
I have an edge blend node that renders no matter what.
I have a shperical map on the reflect that renders no matter what.
I have a PROP that has THE EXACT SAME material as everthing else, just a different 2d image map applied (to match uv map).
so far so good.
If I apply a 2d image map to the figure, the material group that the map is applied to, Turns black. Like I said before, the reflect and edge blend still render, and the prop has the same material applied....
Any ideas ? Any idea on what to check? An issue in the cr2? whats missing?
The picture shows what the Materials room loooks like on one material, but they are all the same, just with different maps. You can see the prop is fine, AND you can see that the Material Preview sphere looks like it should, it does not show black!!
