Subject: Workshops - Would you like to see them, and, if so, what kind?

Would you guys like to start seeing workshops on the forum?  What kind of workshops would you like to see?

As a list of ideas, here are some I wouldn't mind seeing/facilitating:

Lighting - How it can make or break your render.
Posing - Realistic body angles
Expressions - What can make your characters' faces more real?

 Most likely in the form of a thread here, and if the idea takes off, I can work with admin on making "announcements" about upcoming workshops.  

I won't be leading them, personally, but just monitoring (like normal), but I am looking for volunteers to give some expertise.  The threads will be linked from the backroom and the FAQ (which I'll be updating in the coming months) to make them easy to find.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to also ask "who would like to put on a workshop and get the response to that " unless you already have that side covered.

I'd like somebody to do one with approx 16 renders comparing tone-mapping (exposure control) to
 GC (monitor calibration function) in 2 scenes.  they will need both PP2010 and P8, since PP2010
may not have tone-mapping for some reason, although it may not be set in stone yet.  no text
explanation needed, just GC and TM settings.  lo-qual. IDL settings o.k. for said renders.

how to create constrained clothes
for example ... if you animate a character with loins etc these loins have to be animated seperately.
How to create something that the loins move a certain way when walking etc

I think workshops are an excellent idea and your first three ideas are spot on.  One that I would like to see is the Material Room - Beyond the Basics.

 Anything that helps with the lighting in Poser 8 works for me.  Since I've upgraded my images are very flat and it doesn't seem to matter which light set I use.  WAH I want my Poser 4 render options back, LOL!

Oh, maybe a basic Python tutorial?

(P.S. VelvetMoxie - I really recommend using Bagginsbill's GC tricks (look for Artistic Lense), and also getting the GI Studio pack from RDNA)

Agreed, Poser 8 renders dynamic hair really well, but I think most people gave up on it pre version 8 because of the lousy look of the renders and difficulty using the styling tools in the hair room.

 Thanks Silke...got the GI Studio pack but so far haven't had a lot of luck with it.  Not just sure why.  Will check out the Bagginsbill's thing...if I can find it, LOL!

Which version of poser?  Lighting in poser 7 will have fewer options than lighting in poser 8.

IMO go through some of the more commonly asked questions or need to know things, create a workshop dealing with each one, and then have a sticky that refers to each workshop (sort of like acadia's).

For example a workshop for each aspect of poser content creation would be nice, but also could be very involved for each one.

I would like to see a workshop on how to deal with poke thru's. when posing your characters wearing clothes that may or may not be posable with the character's limbs.

I'd love to see a lighting workshop. I can do the posing and expressions, no problem, but then my renders tend to be ruined by bad seat-of-the-pants lighting! I'd really like to be able to light realistically, or any way at all really that doesn't involve doing it by guess and by God! :D

I did a good tutorial over at Aery Soul about basic lighting using three lights but I'm buggered if I know where to go from there. If it comes out well, it's luck rather than anything else.

Poser already lends itself to modular instruction.

Workshops can be given by room.

Those who are expert in a given room can put together a workshop on it.

Suggested nomeclature for the workshops can be as follows:
Level 1: Essentials or Basics
Level 2: Beyond the basics
Level 3: Advanced
Level 4: Expert
Level 5: Masters

Specific workshops can be given on Firefly (rendering), lighting, compostion and so on.

Or even just basics. Like things that BB has to repeat himself on. Like turn Reflect_Lite_Mult off. Or how to GC (your material) and why it is important. Or what the purpose of the Diffuse_Color vs the Alternate_Diffuse channel is and why it is not really that great an idea to plug a texture map into both simultaneously. Basic stuff like that.

Or perhaps those things are better put into tutorial or wiki form.

And yeah, any updates whether anything is happening on the workshops front?

I would like to know how morphs are added to clothes to make them autoconforming.
I know there are enough tools around, but want to understand how it works and how pokethrough could be solved. I've heard that it also can be done with a CR2 editor.
So I am very curious if anyone would give a workshop like that.

Actually, that would be nice to have a workshop on that, and perhaps the different vendors of products that deal with that could moderate those workshops. Each vendor offers solutions that takes a slightly different approach. And each solution is sophisticated enough to warrant a workshop each.

I use Morphing Clothes by D3D - an excellent product, but I really still think I'm doing things wrong, since sometimes I get unanticipated results. So, a workshop for this product from the developer himself would be awesome.
