Quote - Not that it actually matters to many people, but when the limbus area is white, or a milky/light grayish color, it is called arcus conealis or arcus senilis. It is most frequent in older people. If one wants to simulate an aged eye, the color change between the pale color of the limbus area and the iris should not be sharp.

LMK

I know you're a doctor and I'm not, but are you sure? I thought arcus cornealis aka arcus senilis was a white ring in the outer edge of the cornea. Arcus cornealis means "arch in the cornea".

Whereas the limbus is the transitional structure between cornea and sclera, and that it is translucent white in everybody, gradually becoming completely clear where it ascends to become the cornea.

This is what I modeled the shader on. Note - I did not make this image. I found it at Stanford U.

bagginsbill,

Thanks for the info on the rim.

Quote - Now on your other topic. I can't remember how I did it, but I'm certain I made a one-click solution for Antonia, without your injection magic.

Yes it would certainly be possible to load two smart prop eyes and eyecovers into Antonia from one pp2, all set up for position and shaders. I am fairly certain that a readScript call could not be used in the pp2 to hide the default eyes, but I stand to be proved wrong.

IMO there would have been some disadvantages to having used smart props on Antonia, as opposed to the injection method. The need to access the materials from the props part of the material room, rather than them being in the same list as the other parts of the figure. The need to manually hide the eyes. Extra clutter in the props palette. The fact that the eye prop materials would not be included when an MC6 that was saved for the figure. In my opinion the geom injection provides a much neater, more elegant solution. But it is a solution that can only be used with figures that contain an EyeCover actor.

Now it would also be possible to create a smart pp2 for V4 or any other figure. And it would suffer the same disadvantages as above.

Where my idea of one pp2 and several pose files is coming from is it's ease of implementation, almost infinite flexibility, extensibility, and parsimonious use of disk space. The need to also apply a pz2 would be mitigated to some extent by it removing the need to manually hide the eyes, though I admit that the latter is quicker than finding and applying a pose.

A separate pp2 for each figure is also an option worth considering. It is just not the option I lean towards.

bagginsbill ( ) posted Fri, 05 March 2010 at 2:51 PM

I'm specifically saying I did a read script to hide the eyes.

One click did it all.

Bagginsbill:

I am a nurse practitioner, and a cardiac specialist. I do on occassion closely examine the eyes.

You are very correct, and I am impressed by the level of your research on modeling the eye. I should have known you would be as careful of detail in this as you are in everything else.

The limbus is the narrow juctional area between the sclera and the cornea. As a transitional zone it has some of the white of the sclera and some of the clearness of the cornea. Older people (and some other folks as well) tend to have bloodshot eyes, but I have never seen a reddened limbus, even when the sclera was bruised and blood red.

Arcus senilis occurs underneath the cornea at the outer border of the iris and can be a very narrow band or wider. It can also be an incomplete circle. The inner edge of the limbus (on close up inspection) will be a dark very thin circle around the outer edge of the color of the arcus.

http://www.thaiclinic.com/boardimg/no_fate-arcussenilis.jpg
http://webeye.ophth.uiowa.edu/eyeforum/atlas/photos/arcus-senilis-OS-India-1966-301X274.jpg

Sometimes the color of the arcus and the limbus will almost merge.

http://classes.kumc.edu/som/aamc/icm851/images/photoimages/eye80.jpg

The picture that lesbentley shared reminded me of arcus senilis, except the band of color was dark and not light. I though I read that this might be caused by not having a texture on the eye covering to simulate the limbus.

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/media/folder_9/file_448973.png

It seemed to me that if a light color could be placed in that band, it would look like arcus cornealis and might be useful for close-up renders of older people. Can that effect be captured?

Sorry if I was simplistic.

I did not think that would work from inside a pp2. But if you did it, you did it, and it obviously does work.

SaintFox ( ) posted Fri, 05 March 2010 at 5:29 PM

*the color change between the pale color of the limbus area and the iris should not be sharp.

Many sites back we already discussed this issue - you are very right: The way how the iris melts into the eyewhite is what seperates most 3d-eyes from real human eyes, even very young people have no sharp seperation between iris and eyewhite if you look closely. For now I help myself by adding a second layer of eyewhite above the iris and cut away almost everything of it that covers the iris with a featherd mask. This gives a halfway likewise effect but works only when the iris is located above the eyewhite on the texture map. With V4/M4 a transparency map for the sclera material has a likewise effect.

But I do not want to distract you from your discussion as I am looking forward to the BB-Eyes 😉

Quote - She's an awsomely lifelike model... i'm very impressed... when will we see her mouth working so she can smile?... great job!

Thanks! Work is underway to make her more expressive - in several directions, actually.

There are some older face morphs by JOELGLAINE which I haven't included in the latest releases because they had some "built-in" movements of the whole head. Cage has managed to clean those up, so we might make them available again in the near future.

Cage is also working on a very promising method that would let one transfer face morphs from one figure to another. So if you have a figure with good expression morphs, you might soon be able to use those on Antonia. More about all these things can be found in this thread.

Finally, I am preparing to give Antonia her very own set of dedicated expression morphs. So in the (hopefully) not-too-far future, you should have many options. 😉

Too bad that the "Smooth Lips" morph doesn't work any longer... well, at least as it used to do. I found that it now alters the shape of the eyes. If LaurieA is reading this: Would you mind to do it again? And you, Olaf... would you mind to add or re-create my beloved asian features?! 😄

But in fact I am just here to share the settings above that may be useful for the one or other of you. I found that these few tweaks fit many if not most hair-props (hr2) to Antonia.

Saint Fox,

Sounds like you must be using the obj version of the morphs. Get the "LAHeadMorphs-PMD.zip" file  from the developers site. It contains the morphs as a PMD injection. In that format whey will not distort the eyes.

lesbentley ( ) posted Fri, 05 March 2010 at 10:51 PM · edited Fri, 05 March 2010 at 11:03 PM

Any head morphs in obj format, made before version 120 (no I never saw that version either) will cause the eye deformation. Delta injection (INJ), or PMD injection morphs should not have this problem.

I pointed out that this happens, and gave an explanation why some pages back, but things get buried fast in this thread.

If you still have the 118 figure there are two ways to cure the old obj morphs. One, you can load them into 118, then convert them into delta, or PMD injections.

Or two, export the 118 head 'As Morph Target'. Load the 122 figure, load the "bad" morph and set it to a strength of one, load the 118 head as a morph and set it to a strength of minus one. This will cancle out the eye deformation. You can now export a new fixed obj, or spawn a new morph in the head.

Page 200!!! :woot:

I'd like to say that I'm really amazed and excited to see all these recent developments that Antonia has - at least in part - inspired. We have the most realistic eyes ever seen in Poserdom, we have conforming clothes our figures can do gymnastics in, and we have ways (or should I say "ve have vays"?) to make our figures trade their face morphs with one another. You know, when I wrote on page one that maybe we could work together to make this figure awesome, it was just a pipe dream. But it actually happened, and that's just amazing. Thanks everyone!

What I can definately say is that this Antonia is maybe the BEST figure I have ever seen.
I think she could beat with real pain all the other figures around... I LOVE the shape of her legs and how they look in the poses... IMO the rigging is already a jewel... if there are small things to still check, well, sure are small because I got the impression of being in front of a masterpiece.
I woudl love to see face morphs... not sure if is me or she doesn´t has them yet... I don´t have them in the zip :S
I will sure be doing some clothings for her when the time allows me...
She has a wonderfull body that I can imagine shaped in many ways...
Congrats to ODF and cheers!!!!!

Antonia seems to be more like a real woman and that will please many people...
Aiko 3 was a star in her time and people still love her...
So, ODF should be awared that money will appear in the conversations table, maybe, if he allows that... who knows?
But if the intention is having her for FREE forever, then we can sleep very relaxed because nobody can beat what is free :)

Hi Fabiana, welcome aboard! Yes, please let us know what you think. Input is always appreciated.

As for whether DAZ will feel threatened by Antonia: I honestly don't think so. Lots of users love their figures and the way they look, they can grab whatever idea they find useful from Antonia, and besides they're in the accessories business anyway. There's a good reason so many of their base figures are free.

I've said it many time: I probably wouldn't have made Antonia if V4 had been around at the time. Which would have been a pity, because I think the best thing about Antonia is that not only is she free, but people can experiment with her and share their experiments without restrictions. But even that is not such a big deal, because with DAZ figures there's always the option of encoding files so that only owners of the original figures can use them.

Oh hello Fabi!! Nice to have you around here!!
About face morphs: I am planning on some but want to wait until odf is done with the expression morphs and maybe other things he plans for the face - just because it's too bad if you create something nice and have to do it again because the face/head has changed.

I have no problem when this happens with textures because their look and feel is easy to recreate even if I start from scratch. But I never had any luck when trying to recreate a morph.
