Man oh man... Sorry to hear you got burglarized... I don't know what I do if all my stuff was gone...
You got a good spirit and that will help... you did reported to the police... you never know if something comes up.... I'm in sympathetic pain just thinking about it...

My guts hurt reading this. To say that its terrible is to put it mildly.
Let us know if there is anyway we can help put some of the pieces together.
Now I hope you have contacted the authorities. Sometimes this kind of act can be done by neighbours kids, or by people who have hit multiple homes.
It is possible that your equipment can turn up, because these people will eventually get caught.
Let us know if we can help in anyway.
Hi Bobby,
Oh Sh(beep)it! An incredible loss!! :(
I hope that those guys get caught in time with most of your stuff still intact on the drives... though I see not much chances for that. Well, such miracles might happen....

I swear I wrote a prely to this thread. Whatever!
Sorry to hear this, Bobby. Being burgled isn't fun. Happened to me 3 times in the town I used to live in before I moved to Mars. It's a real kick in the crotch.

Oh no!! that's horrible!! Nothing left? nada? Zilch? backups anywhere? print outs? dvds? with friends? Anything we can help out with?
gosh..you must be feeling so hollow and horrible and so darn angry and frustrated!
the police can't find out anything?
Oh man! that's so hard.
As for your work..don't give up on it all even though it happened to you. Start back doing stuff..don't give up on it..
imagine if it was a flood or some act of god.. you won't be able to blame god.. you'd have to laugh at his sense of humour.. and you'd not give up..restart again. Beethoven didn't give up when he turned deaf..he kept on going..and wrote some of his greatest pieces deaf. So you can too..never mind if you lost things.. your greatest music and art can be written no matter how bad life is..
hugs..and cheers.. love you lots..
Maybe you can start writing songs about what it's like to be burgled and how it ruins lives. I got burgled three times and I know is sucks. The first time was by some kids who lived just a couple of doors away. Their father had shown them how to break in because their house was exactly the same as the rest in our street.
They did get busted for quite a few burglaries, but what finally did them in was a car wreck. The eldest kid had been drinking one night and he was driving his father when he crashed into an oncoming truck. The father was killed outright, but the kid moved his dad into the driving seat and told the cops that his dad had been driving. The cops didn't buy it and he was sent to jail. I hope he's still there.

Ask around too in your community/social circle - funny how it happened just as you were away - maybe someone knows something. Hope they catch the b******s!
Well the angels smiled on me for a while this afternoon and I tripped over a briefcase full of cd's from when I moved to my upstairs computer 5 years ago and had to burn everything to disc. Fortunately I didn't just use one re writable so I have all my early compositions in Melody Assistant and a great deal of my old Imagine3D models....wooooo hooooo...plus all the extra procedurals I bought for Imagine by RJJ mostly back in my computer....still more diskd to scavange...wish me luck.. ...

Just a small warning to everyone reading this...back up somewhere where the freakin criminals can't find yer stuff. If I hadn't had all that old stuff backed up from my transfer process I'd have nothing now. If you use external USB drives for back up, shut them down, unplug them and then hide them before you go out any time if you live in anything like the hi risk area I live in...had I the cash and a driver's license I'd be living outa town where they can't reach me but life's like that eh.. ...still no word from DAZ about retrieving my purchaces from there...anyone have a contact e mail other than what they supply....most links are fro product support and none I could find for simple contact re: stuff they don't have linked like this.. ...

Bobby you can go to your account profile at DAZ. The link is at the top right corner of the page. Then go to Order Information which is at the top of the account profile page. From there you can view your orders and reset the downloads. Just click on "itemized order history".

Yeah and thanks man...I've been thinking about that and should have gotten X Drive or whatever it became when I had the intuition a few years back. I found another for $60.00 [ballpark] per year and unlimited Storage Space, Bandwidth,Transfer Speed, number of Computers it can be installed on, and a bunch of stuff you can do...the Pro type version is $150.00 [ballpark] and has more features with it appearing as a L Drive on your computer**...**sounds cool as well...only about 412.00 a month

This makes me shudder. Not just losing the equipment and files, but that people were in your digs, rummaging through your stuff! Makes you want to push furniture in front of all the windows and doors.
I keep meaning to investigate sites like Carbonite, where all your virtual stuff is physically somewhere else. Probably would make loading a new computer easier, too?
O K...I should explain...I live in a high risk area that we call locally "The War Zone' and I originally moved back as my Mom was regularily having attempted break in's [unsuccessful at first as we installed the 'new iron grills' on the window] and they were a deterrent as they didn't attempt the kitchen window any but the first of 9 times in 14 years. They tried the back/kitchen door but with a keyed deadbolt that just alerted the neighbours...the 2nd last time they tried that I had put in a piece of beveled glass that lucikily fit exactly and they smashed that...exploded all the way to the dining room. Then I put in bullet proof lexan and that ended that so they kicked in the basement window, bars and all [this is when I moved home for Mom's security] and I should have been warned as the screws were 1 1/2 inches but assumed they used longer ones on the bigger windows...should have checked...they do take advantage of little old ladies [tradesmen and regular crooks]. Well those screws are now replaced with 3 1/2 inch tempered steel screws and the curtains are now drawn after sunset so there's no way they can look in to case the joint. I leave the radio on when out so I'm hoping that will confuse them when they come back, and they do usually in 2 - 3 weeks apparently when they do a good haul like mine of resellable computer parts [they reformat/erase the drives and sell all parts, drives, monitors, RAM etc.] seperately as the box tends to have the only serial number that most folks record on insurance. Well I have all the neighbours alerted, for their safety as well as mine, so neighbourhood watch is on high alert...plus the police told me if I catch them break their knees as I can say they fell chasing me and they'll [the police] back me up, so I have my aluminium bat at the ready...they travel in 3's so my across the street freek neighbour and his neighbour, the huge prison guard are alerted and one call will have them here anytime day or nite....It's war in the war zone I guess.. ...Oh did I mention I got all the early inspired music files back of a lucky archive from the transfer event...now I just have to re transcribe all my non computer stuff which is where my computer experience started in 1996-7...should be fun if a tad of a long job...took 6 months the first time.. ...

Where the heck do you live? Beruit? East L.A.? No way any place in Canada could be like that. Canadians are civilized. Good lord, you'd be safer and more relaxed living in a bears cave out in the woods. I don't know how you stand the stress.
Feeling duly ashamed of myself, I am now grateful for my crummy little house, where I can leave a back window open as an extra kitty door.
In actual fact Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada has become known as the largest Urban Reserve in N America if not the world due largely to the way the feds treat First Nation people...a high percentage who are poor and to make it worse, FASD when they move in from the poverty stricken reserves and unreachable in the family situations they grew up in when they could be helped, because their families are alcoholic and the kids behaviour seems normal to a drunk I guess...any how the Indian Posse was formed here and has spread across Canada as one of the largest organized gangs in Canada. It's the only family a lot of the dispossesed have or recognize because once they earn their bones they're in for life and to them that's security cuz even busted the Posse rules the jails and penitentiaries. Generally kids are used for breakins and muling drugs cuz they're untouchable till 18 and I even read a case here where they offed a rival gang member [an adult] who was cutting thier turf..Still I won't really arm myself and become part of the problem...just raise my caution level a bit.
Some more good news to tag on the end of that...a pal who I turn on to all my art stuff[we cartooned together in the 70's-80's found almost all my more recent music on his computer cuz I'd given it to him to study and as tutes in how melody assistant worked...150 songs...woo hoo...and he also had my TG2 Texture files cuz I'm working on getting him addicted to TG2 as well LOL

I had been under the impression that Canada treated their First Nation people better than we in the US treated the Native Americans down here. It sounds, however, like the same problems exist north of the border. Things for the local Native Americans are still rocky, but since they began operating casinos, they've gotten better. Having grown up around Papago (can't spell the name they use now), Apache, and a few Navaho, I never really noticed any difference between them and any other friends... except I was always jealous of their skin color and hair.
I hear what you're saying about a dog. Three years, and I still tear up. But, if you want a yappy dog, nothing out-yaps a pomeranian. The one in the yard behind me used to drive my coonhound nuts.
I had an English Terrier crossed with a chiuaua[sp?] and she was extremely territorial...barked when any one even touched the gate. She'd sit on the back of the couch monitoring the street quietly till someone attempted egress and holy hell wold issue from her mouth as she ran from the front dor and back to the window to check again...makes me chuckle just remembering. that.
On a happier note I finally got back into DAZ and now have my Br 6.3 and 7.0 Pro so I should soon be seeing how it performs on Win7 Home Premium...

Bobby? You have the perfect breed of dog right on your doorstep. A Newfoundland. We had one from a puppy. Guarded me and the family and only ever barked when strangers were close by.
Just one of the many stories I could tell you goes like this. We were staying at the home of Mrs Bryster's mother (My MIL) over the weekend. We took Sammy - Lady Samantha Snowpaws - with us. The MIL fed her, fussed over her and generally spoilt her rotten. Sammy lay at her feet every night and walked with her up and down the garden every day.
But when we got back in the car for our trip home the MIL tried to pass some sweets to our kids through the open car window. Sammy went for her!
Now you might think that this sounds aweful until you realise that the car was Sammy's territory and the kids were her charges. She was protecting them. That was her job and she knew it. The kids could play with Sammy all day long. They could pull her about, ride on her back and generally drive her nuts. But never once did she ever ever ever go for them. Not once did she even growl at them.
The same was true about our home. She knew all the neighbours, but she only ever barked when strangers walked passed. And when she barked, the neighbours started looking for the strangers. She also had a different kind of bark when a neighbour came to the door.
I could write all day about her, but the short version is that you'll never find a more faithful companion.
edit: BTW. Newfies are also called 'The Gentle Bears'. Look it up.

On the other hand, you could see this disgrace as an opportunity to start some fresh new music..!

Beautiful story of a great companion and I agree...that and a Labrador, curiously now a part of Newfoundland province wise, are wonderfully protective of home and hearth. My pal's Lab used to swim out jst past where his kids swam as he was aware of their ability and would herd them back to water they could handle, in addiytio to the best 'walking guard' as they waited for the school bus [they lived up in the Riding Mountain area North of here in coyote, wolf and bear country]and there was never an incident. All that being said a dog the size even of a Lab would cost more to feed than I spend on my food per month and most months I go to the Food Bank in the last week...I can't imaginge trying to feed a Newfie...I'd have to mortgage my house...LOL...plus in the core area of a city like this I think it'd be cruel as if whatever dog hangs out in the yard too long as an outdoor dog of thhse breeds would need they'd be taunted into barking insanity in no time and no dog deserves that....but my "Lab Lite', or as my pals called her my 'laptop' doggie couldn't handle the cold longer than it took to pee, and the wind in here ears drove her spare so in house life suited her well. As a guard dog I think I'd get a Malamute, much more available around here just south of sled dog country....Although the sleds are being rapidly replaced by snowmobiles the dogs continue to be bred as they are much like the Newfie and the Lab in their 'child herding' abilities and loving, kind, not big barkers unless in a pack when they talk a lot, heh heh heh, and fiercely territorial...I had a Malamute/Collie cross, Pluto by name, and he was the best very large dog in the world in my opinion anyway.
Great pic of Sam btw...truely bear like...but they do tend to develop hip problems as they are swimmers and their hips are more at home in the water of which within striking distance I only have a very dirty river [very muddy more than pollution, and the dog'd need a hose down after every swim as the mud would cake up and they'd be unable to walk...No...a noisy lap top is what I think I'm gonna look for....if I deciede to have my heart broken again.. ...

I've heard stories that Newfies "rescue" kids from swimming pools, and have to be trained to not do that. ;) My cousin had one for many years, and the only problem was finding play balls big enough. She became expert at retrieving halff-swallowed balls from doggies throat.
I have to mention coonhounds as a possibility, too. They look like a doberman/bloodhound cross, but the great part is people mistake them for rottie or dobie mixes, and stay far away. They also mistake the coonhounds friendliness as aggression. Like bloodhounds, coonhounds might lick you to pieces, or knock you over trying, but that's about it. They also have a rather.... ummm... crazy look in their eyes when excited. The downside is, they'll eat your furniture and half the yard. They get bored easily. Oh, and they climb. Tables, trees, benches, cat trees... and they open cabinets and refrigerators, and can chew through cans to suck out the contents... .
Come to think of it, Yorkies and Chihuahuas do a good job of guarding. ;)
Hey, Bryster, how are the grooming chores for Newfies? Beautiful, beautiful dog.
Well the pic I posted is not Sammy. Just one I picked up from the net. (See the link) I only have a few of Sammy and I'd have to scan them into the pc.
She mainly ate 'dry feed' because ordinary canned dog meat just went straight through her and the resulting mess was simply too awful. However, sacks of dry feed were very reasonably priced and she loved scraps. In fact she had scraps at the top of her list. She used to sit by the backdoor at tea time and wait for us to finish eating and drop our left-overs into her bowl. That done, she would then sit by next-door's fence for them to finish their meal and dropping their scraps over the fence!!!!
In the UK there used to be- probably still is - an annual event day for Newfies, where they would be hitched up to little carts that gave kids a ride around a park, and other doggy events.
A lake in the park provided a demonstration area for the Newfie's water skills. A couple of folks would row out into the lake watched by most of the Newfies and throw a large doll into the water; The idea being that the Newfies would see the doll and think it a child that needed rescuing. I watched this event on TV one year. They threw the doll into the water and yelled and hollored, but the Newfies weren't having any. It was only when one of the boat crew jumped into the water that the Newfies reacted, swimming out to try to rescue the 'distressed' swimmer.
Oddly enough, Sammy didn't think much of seawater and wouldn't go swimming. However, on long walks on the beach near our home, she would trot along doing huge figures-of-eight that always enclosed the kids and scouted out the beach ahead of us.
As for grooming??? OMG! That brings back memories. Sammy used to lie in front of the vacuum cleaner when Mrs Bryster did the carpets and wouldn't move till she'd had a good hoovering! We regularly removed pounds of matted hair from her. We could have stuffed a sofa with what she shed over a year. And don't get me started on her drooling when a treat was up for grabs.
Sadly, the time came when her hips got the better of her and athritis crept up her spine. One evening she couldn't get to her feet and was set on dragging herself across the floor. We called the vet and after 11 fun filled years we said goodbye to the best animal friend we ever had.

Dogs are special people, aren't they? Sammy's leaving sounds much like my Kirby's. After much denial, it got to the point where walking was becoming impossible. And now I'm bawling again.
And isn't it telling that, with all the chewing, expense, poo patrol, and rush-to-the-vet scares, what we remember is their hearts? Dogs are what we could and should be. And then there's the hair. The coonhound wasn't bad, but my beagle shed like a persian cat. Drool. Eat pizza, and see drool strings that reached the floor, and had the desired effect of making your appetite disappear, leaving more for the drooler. ;) Bath time.... brrrr.... The beagle, even after 14 years, saw it as attempted drowning, but the coonhound often thought my bath was drawn for him.
All three of us need to find a dog that will outlive us, so we can enjoy their special friendship again. It leaves a big hole, doesn't it?

Sorry for my absence from rendo since Sat afternoon ...I went to a gig with some friends , awesome music , great night ...got home...all computers and external drives gone......thus ends a 13 year voyage in 3D....Got a new one but don't see me searching for and or creating 13 gigs of image maps again at 62........not to mention my 100 gigs of models...sigh. Dedicating my true creativity back to my music and will only view 3D as a hobby...my heart is broken by those fucktards as they not only got the 3D me but all the music I've written on the computer itself...never to be recreated as it was all discovery first time stuff...plus the 150 transcriptions I did of my singer/songwriter stuff...that itself will take a year to restore.. ...
Any how new box...back on duty...sorry for my absence but I think I was in shock...couldn't even look at a computer till late last night. As I lost everything rendo related I'm going to get Stacey to change my e mail to my web presence at hotmail.com. IM to her next...nice to be back
