I wish this offer had come along before I had killed my entire family in a fit of Poser-induced rage, but what can you do, eh? At least it means I've been able to immerse myself the Messiah demo without interruption... man, it's good!

I think I made a mistake buying the basic version, I'm going to grab the pro version, that point animation feature alone looks excellent.

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Sat, 12 February 2011 at 4:04 PM

just checked their forums (86%) and apparently it's not an OS X app, but rather a crossover app.  still, at $40, even if it's slow beta version, that's alot cheaper than $1195, if the updates for cheapo buyers to patch the initial release are F.O.C.  not clear how hard it will be to learn, as this ad is appearing in poser forum, and most poser users don't create figure meshes that need to be rigged, nor do animations.  it referred to auto-rigging of fingers (or similar), which is not bad IMVHO.  heads, hands and feet have been probs for people introducing new poser models - the temptation is sometimes to use daz rigs and sections of daz meshes to speed things up.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Sat, 12 February 2011 at 4:53 PM

I've been using the Demo. The auto rig works pretty good. Rig a character in just a few minutes or so depending on how many bones you need. From Modo to Messiah it's a breeze. Yes the Luxology forum has had Mac users that point out that the Mac version runs using wine.

I'm a PC user so this is something that fits my pipeline prerfectly.

Moving Poser figures to Messiah might get quite involved if you want the rig for animation, posed figures coulld be exported to OBJ the imported into Messiah.  I did see where one person used BVH to get Poser bones (from Poser) into Messiah (I would guess that OBJ was used to import the figure), so it looks like it is possible. From what I've read, the autirigging in Messiah is very good. I would think if you were going to use V4 for animation in Messiah, you might be better off re-rigging in Messiah. For morphs, it would be a manual process of dialling the morph in Poser, exporting the mesh from Poser and importing as a morph target in Messiah.

Being a "pro" app, the learning curve is probably fairly steep, but my general impression is that it isn't that hard to learn. But by joining Setup Tab you get access to what looks like a great set of video tutorials for the $20.00 membership fee.

For anyone who is interested in moving beyond Poser, DS, or Carrara for animations, then this is a fantastic deal! Of course, many of the features in Messiah are available in Blender for free (though I think Messiah probably has a better/more efficient work flow). It also integrates well with Wings 3D, Silo, 3D Coat, and Modo so many Poser users who make there own content don't need to learn a new modeling app.

I took the plunge and got the pro version. My primary app for rendering Poser content is Carrara, but the renderer in Messiah is supposed to be very fast. Even if  I only use it occasionally, at $40 it's about the same as a Carrara Plugin or a big scene by Stone Mason. At $10, the Basic version is about the same price as a nice V4 outfit.

and anyway...one of the cool things about rendo, at least in the past, was that we could come here and find out about cool deals such as this messiah thing. If it wasn't for the post here, I doubt I would have seen it.

So thanks to wolfie for that one.

and it bothers me, as the same thing happened in a thread i had, and plenty of others, that people feel they have to come in and lay out people for posting stuff that actually helps the community.
I believe we have mods, such as the very beautiful ryuslilangel, and forum coordinators, that take care of the policing and TOS stuff. why don't we leave it to them to decide if a TOS breach happened and they can work it out with the supposed offender.

Really liking this. Adding extra bones and things is just like slicing butter with a hot knife. I will buy the walk plugin if we get this deal. If you watch the vid I mentioned you will know why.

I have to admit I really respect you for this answer. And your expectation was right :-) but I like pleasant surprises. Next time I have to look into translations for 'Werbung' which is advertisment, there a no German words for Spam or Promotion, instead we use Spam and Promotion but it is also advertisement= Werbung. And I really should not have put you into a group with others because I see you explained yourself. Thank you!

Just noticed this news from the DAZ Messiah thread. In addition to a USB ThumbDrive, you will need a Video Card that supports OpenGL 1.2. Looks like I'm gonna need a new card.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Sun, 13 February 2011 at 12:47 AM

OpenGL 1.2 are very old cards IIRC.I believe my 8 year old card has that or it's the 2.2. The one I just moved to another computer is 3.2 or more and the one that replaced that is 4.0 The one that I use on this machine I'm typing with is 5 years old and is 2.2 or .4 what ever that number is.

SteveJax ( ) posted Sun, 13 February 2011 at 12:55 AM

Hrm... maybe I misspoke. Maybe they said 2.2, drat now I have to go wade back and see. The way the person said it I just assumed my 5 year old card was too old.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Sun, 13 February 2011 at 2:10 AM

It's a pain not being able to save anything in the demo, but it seems to me that getting poser stuff into messiah couldn't be easier. Once you have adjusted a rig (a copy of the autorig, for instance) to fit a figure like V4, you save it and never need to bother with that task again. It'll obviously take a bit of tweaking to get weighting and falloffs right, but once it's done, it's done.

To pose or animate V4 you load your V4 rig, load her mesh, load whatever clothes meshes you want, apply the same rig to all the meshes and presto, you have a poseable figure with conforming clothes (haven't tried dymanics yet).

I've got V4 with hair prancing about in little boyshort undies and a sportbra as I type, using a BVH mocap.

Google Piriform, download their free "Speccy", install it, start it, wait till it runs, click on "graphics", check what it says behind "OpenGLSupport" if it's even or higher than 1.2, you're good to use it.

Yep, all those suggestions would work. I found scaling V4 up to the sam size as the auto rigging works the best instead of fitting the skeleton to V4. Yes, that would be the most efficient in terms of resources. I was just looking at how little effort one could get away with, not doing any prep work in poser, just grabbing objs from the runtime folder.

On another forum one of the messiah guys made a suggestion for dynamic-type clothing,  painting all hidden body parts with a material which doesn't render, that would give it something to drape over without risk of poke-through glitches being visible.  > Quote - I expected to drop the green bar all to the right when I purchased my pro, but it didn't happen sigh

Well, try buying another one and see if it moves this time. You're allowed four. So you go shopping again, I'll keep an eye on the green bar.  ;-)

I wonder if it would be ok to share messiah rigs for proprietary DAZ and Poser figures? It would save a lot of effort if we didn't each have to start from scratch on every figure.

I also wonder if it isn't perhaps time to scale all my Poser meshes up to life size. The Poser rigs are the one thing keeping everything tied to the stupid miniature poser sizes, if the rigs aren't transferring to Messiah that obtacle falls away and there's no reason to remain stuck in Poser Units.

Working life-size makes everything easier once you're outside Poser, from modeling to setting subsurface scattering depths to camera focal lengths, otherwise you're constantly converting.
