Looks nice. Is the original hair going to get the bugs worked out of it so we can use it with other figures?

One of the problems I have always had with conforming hair is the lack of cross figure compatibility. I use all kinds of hair and the conformers always give me the worst headaches. Once a conformer to a specific figure it can never really be useful with any other figure. I have even tried parenting the hair to another character head but it doesn't seem to work like one would expect.

I therefore try and avoid buying or downlading free hair if conformer formatted.

So my question I guess to conforming hair creators is why make it a character specific conformer when you could make it a regular .Hr2 hair prop that the user can use on ALL Figures? Just curious as to what different goes into the making one way as opposed to an other.

I am not a hair creator and asked myself as well about the why (and prefer as far as possible hr2/propped hair as it is far easier to tweak to fit many figures). But one reason may be that cr2 hair is able to contain bones. This way it will move with the body like conforming clothes do. I found that most long hairstyles are conforming - so this is what comes to my mind.

A little update on Leo's situation: Unfortunatly his leg is now not only paralyzed but has no feeling anymore. Same goes for the right side of the face but the face still moves, he still speaks clearly and has the full sense of taste. Not really good new but I expected that there will be more problems. Off of that he longs for his own bed, sofa and for his computer, meanwhile he is bored to death and unfortunatly I am not allowed to stay longer than 30-60 minutes each day (and I am always able to stay a little longer anyway by making myself useful at the station).

Leo's fazit so far: I wanted to go home soon, now I will drive home soon - but however I want to go home soon. The reaction of the caretakers is divided: Some like him a lot as he is awake, perky and tough, some are deeply irritated and try to treat him like a child.

I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!

And I am not strange, I am Limited Edition!

SaintFox,

I'm certainly no authority on strokes, but my understanding is that whilst things can get worse in the short term, you often see improvements in the long term. I know Leo must long to get home, but I think he should also make sure he gets all the best care and treatment the hospital can provide, and only come home when staying in hospital is of no further benefit. I know the days in hospital must be a drag, but if it can contribute to a better long term outcome, it must be worth it. My hopes and best wishes to Leo.

As to the reasons for conforming, rather than prop hair, you are quite correct, it is because it allows the hair to bend with the figure. That said, whilst I was working on the hair, I kept saying to myself "There has to be a better way to make hair", and I have a few ideas floating around in my head as to what that better way might be. The basic idea is this, have only the head part of the hair conforming, drive the other joint rotations via ERC. I think this would have two advantages. First, the hair's joint centres would not need to match those of the character, and could be positioned to suit the hair itself. Second, as the hair is not conformed (except for the head), you could make manual adjustments to the joint rotations, rather than having to accept what the what the conforming forces on you. This should allow a better simulation of the effects of gravity, wind, or momentum.

It's just a theory at the moment, but when I get a bit of time, I plan to try it out. Anyone got a hair obj they feel like donating to the experiment?

I have two images I will post later showing how well the hair works.

I have an older Zygote braided prop hair w/o textures or any morphs (believe it comes from one of their old costume pack for P4). It just sits there parented to head and as long as figure is standing straight backed and head and chin up it looks like it is supposed to but do not dare to move her!

If you want that....though not sure how Zygote/DAZ will feel about this OLD and horribly unsupported braid hair prop(Like many other items with potential they released but never supported) getting a new lease on life...I can send it to you (it would be sweet getting that as a nice moving hair figure with morphs and real hair textures!).

Well, I've been testing the Flo Hair and here are the images I said I'd post.

In the one where she is bent down the only adjustment I made was to lower the hairline in front.

The image where she is on the box I had to tweak the hair till it fell just right over the side of the box.

As you can see it looks pretty good in bothe poses.

I like this hair for her. :)

Thanks for the images BluEcho, and thanks to everyone who has said kind words about the hair. I was really feeling disapointed that it did not turn out better, but I guess you can get so close to something you are trying to perfect, that all you see are it's faults. I'm glad some of you like it. Of course the major credit goes to EnglishBob and Heidi, who made the original version.

I'm looking forward to seeing what RAMWolff, and hopefully BluEcho, come up with in the way of textures. I did try myself to do a photo texture for the hair, but it did not turn out well. Perhaps I will try again.

Well really it is still in the beta testing phase. The idea is that testers give some sort of feedback, tell of any bugs found, or make suggestions for improvement, or say where the read me file could use improvement, etc. Seeing as you are planning on making some textures for it, you can certainly have a copy, and without me epecting you to do any testing or give feedback, and edgeverse can have a copy too, he deserves it for that bikini render a few pages back, I'm still trying to get my breath back after that one!
🤤

At the moment, anyone else who wants it, has to send me a message and agree to test and give feedback. :tongue2:

Only thing is, I have just done a new version, and I'm waiting for EnglishBob to set up  download link on his web site. I expect that will probably happen some time in the next 24 hours. as soon as I get the link I will pass it on.

Yes, it's OK to use Antonia's cr2 file to create confirming clothing for her. Antonia is distributed under a  "Creative Commons Attribution Licence", which, as I understand it, means you can do anything you want with the cr2, so long as you credit odf as the original author.

Would the hat and hair combo from this outfit be suitable for your testing purposes? If it is let me know where to send the files.

Currently it's for V4 but I can refit to Antonia should that would work better in your testing cycle.

RAMWolff, BluEcho, or anyone else who's thinking of doing textures for Flo:

Are you thinking of doing add-on textures which use the existing transparency maps, or a complete set of maps? The reason I ask, I was thinking some time ago before Les started the Antonia conversion that Flo's UV mapping isn't very good and must make texturing difficult.

So the question is, should I remap or leave it as it is? The image shows the sort of thing I have in mind.

Umm, if you're talking about the image I posted that's a completely different hair about to be used as test fodder for lesbentley's idea.

But the answer to your question would still be yes.

Note it's a low poly kink not a falloff issue in that one which will be addressed prior to delivery.

Just tried out flo hair in Poser 8 and it loaded and conformed fine on odf's Antonia, but if I try to conform the hair on my cr2 that references odf's something goes wrong. Does anyone know how I could have managed to mess up conforming with my cr2?

Would I be better off just releasing my morphs in a full cr2 rather than doing it with a readscript line? Odf's licensing allows resistribution as long as he is credited, so I may be making things more difficult for myself than they need be. :/

To get more texture area on the square map.

Rotate 45 CCW, do whatever to it, rotate 45 CW.

Englishbob, I can go with the way you've shown or vertical.

If The map is all one map it would be easier.

I don't know the answer. I converted the hair in P6, which involved saving the hair figure from the Poser interface back to disk a number of times. The hair worked fine for me in P6, but when EnglishBob tried it in P7 it went seriously spastic. The values for the joint centers had changed or been truncated. I went through all the 'origins', including the 'Offset' channels and the center points on the 'joint' channels, and restored them to Antonia's original values. After that it worked OK for Bob in P7. I'm thinking that P7 and later may be hyper sensitive to the location of the joint centers, and any disparity between the conformer and the character.

The only thing I can think to suggest is, make a copy (outside of Poser) of the original Antonia cr2, then use a cr2 editor, or Morph Manager, to move the morphs into that new cr2.

lesbentley ( ) posted Sun, 13 March 2011 at 2:26 PM

EnglishBob,

Quote - So the question is, should I remap or leave it as it is?

I don' really feel qualified to voice an oppinion on whether to remap it or not. I suppose it depends to a large degree on wether BluEcho and RAMWolff have already invested much time in working on the orriginal mapping, or whther they are yet to start. I sugest you go with whatever they say.

I do have an oppinion on the diagonal versus horizontal placement of the map though. As bob1965 said you could rotate it 45, then rotate it back, but in my experience rotating seriously degrades the quality of an image. So if you do remap, I would go for a vertical placement.

That's probably the best  solution.  I wasn't quite sure what I needed to include in my cr2, and taking out some things would break my dependent parameters.

As for the flo hair, it moves well with Antonia and the morphs I tried work well. I really love the tie-back and wave morphs. :)

EnglishBob ( ) posted Sun, 13 March 2011 at 3:39 PM

Just to address the mapping question: the texture I showed was made with different objectives in mind, and was intended as an illustration of the style of mapping only. I'd make the new one vertical. That should make for the most trouble-free texturing, as others have pointed out.

Obviously any re-mapping should be done before anyone makes a start on texturing. I've PMed RAMWolff to ask the question directly in case he missed it in the hurly-burly that is this thread. :)

You're very welcome. I feel kind of embarrassed taking too much credit for the Flo hair. The modelling is awful, and so is the UV mapping. Heidi is to be congratulated for producing such great maps despite those handicaps, and now Les has improved the rigging way beyond what I'd thought was possible.

And yet Flo has been my most successful download. I supposed that goes to prove something or other, but I don't want to think too deeply about what that is. :) Let's just say that you can achieve much more with the help of a dedicated community than you can by yourself - Antonia proves that.

I dare to hijack the thread again with a small but important update about our situation (and thanks A LOT!!! to you LesBentley for calming me down yesterday - you where sooo right!).

Leo was allowed to leave the intensive care unit today and go to a normal room with three beds and two nice elder fellows who enjoy a good laugh and like to talk. When I visited him today he was as well allowed to have a walk with me - and with the help of the rollator he was able to walk with both legs. The doctor said that his muscles are very strong (although he is physically more the welterweight-type) and this way he is able to move the numb leg without feeling it. We walked around the whole hospital (with the help of some benches and the rollator) and later where allowed to watch handball (Germany vs. Iceland, 39:28) together with his roommates. Everything felt almost normal beside the fact that I was the only person in the room without a pajama.

Don't get me wrong, I am not overly enthusiastic or wear my rosered glasses. It is just a small but important ray of light for us and I wanted to share it with you.

I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!
