Somebody's got some xplane'ing to do.

The Doc keeps turning out these great tuts to the point I think I'm turning into a Dr. Geep Tut Groupie!

"Assign Mateial" named "plexiglas" and then ...

It looks like we get a strange group of polygons after saving a .pz3 file and then reloading the .pz3 file ... :blink: ... Poser has added some polygons to the *"window"* group ... **WITHOUT** our permission.

 ??? .......................... Hmmm, did Poser have a hissy-fit?. :lol:

Anywho ... Let's work on some groups for the xplane ... Next ...

Doc, I have PPro 2010, and this did not happen with me. In other words, I saved the scene as a PZ3, and when I re-opened it, all was fine.

Maybe this is a bug in older versions of Poser ?

Hey Doc. The wife woke up and I am on the other machine.  Test.pz3 works for me

Ok, let's get on to something a little more interesting than the "box." 😄

Load up the xplane and ...

Note - It's a good idea to delete any existing groups to prevent potential problems later on.

... make a "windows" group ... and ADD some polys.

Got 'em grouped? ... Good ... Remember to "Assign Material..." named "plexiglas" ...

and then ... Let's vist the Material Room ... Next ...

Enter the Material Room ... Some may find this room daunting ... but ... it's not ... ... if you know how to use it.  We will cover the basics for both the Advanced (default) and the Simple modes of operation in this room. :biggrin:

Enter the room .... Select the tool ... select the material ... and
.. that's all there is to it .................................... almost ... 😄

I know that economic times are getting tighter for all of us.  That includes me and the cost of operation for a website is not real inexpensive ... so ... I was thinking about the possibility of making part (or all) of Dr Geep Studios a pay site.  What do you think a reasonable charge would be for; the whole site?,  per month?,  per  tutorial?

Doc I know you still have a lot to cover, but I hope you can "xplane" what the Create Prespective UV's is for and when to use it and the same for Smoothing Id's. Never seen them discussed.

I assume and the problem is it's an assumption on my part that the smothing id is like taking the new group and assigning a new smoothing value to that new group as compared to the whole previous group.

The create perspective UV's I assume and again an assumption on my part is a dangerous thing...is it assigns the UV map to the new group. But if you don't do that then what? If you do do it what happens to your texture map from the original. Do you need to modify it based on the modifications you have made?

Yes it does and thanks. But let me ask it a different way. if the xplane was already uv-mapped and you now created the windshield group, did poser then remap the uv's by this new group or do you have to create the uv's again inside of poser by using the create perspective UV's (maybe I am ahead of your tut). But was doing this very thing last week. Selected an area I wanted to break off as a new group on a purchased landscape scene and change a part I selected from rocky texture to a sandy texture, yet leave the rest of it as is or rocky. Sandy beach in a rock cove type of look is what I was trying to achieve. So after these steps what is the impact on the original UV maps or texture maps. I was trying to do it as quick and as easy as possible and was not sure if I needed to run it thru a UV mapping software package again. But I did not click on create perspective UVs at any point during my attempt last week. I am out of town on business for two weeks and the files are back on my main computer at home, but when I exported the .obj file (I wanted to flatten the rocky area that was not going to be sandy so it wasn't so bumpy by moving some ploygons around) I think I lost the mapping and just retained the grouping is all. If that makes since.

Went to the doctoer and got a flu shot to prevent any new bouts.

Now my meds are giving me a headache...ugh.

I'm saving these to a special folder on my computer so I can take time to study them.

Just popping in to say that.. IF you were to make the Plexiglass material (or any other group) on both sides of the model at the same time, simply switch preview to wireframe. Then you'll select everything.. If the mest looks transparent, then poser will treat it that way. An easy way of for instance selecting all of the hem line in a cloth simpulation :)

 

So many people are afraid of the Grouping Tool, and it' has always been one of the greatest features of Poser IMO :)

Before we can add a texture map ... we need create a "New node," i.e., a place to load the texture map.

Now, we can use the Texture Manager to find and add our texture map.

Using the Texture Manager ... Next ...

It's called UV Mapping.

A prop (object) needs to have a UV Map so that Poser knows where to place the texture map on the object.

Can we make a UV Map with Poser? ... Yes ... Let's see how ... Next ... 😄
