Subject: Problem With Reflection

I'm having an interesting problem with reflection.  The figure has hair, but the hair isn't reflecting in the back prop, but the rest of the figure does.  The figure appears completely bald in the reflection.  Here is a part of the final render.  I'll post my material room settings and render settings in the next couple of posts.

I use Windows XP Pro with current updates, and Poser 6 SR3. My Poser is set to "inches"

PS: don't worry about the freaky black areas on the figure. I don't know what that is all about, but I fixed it in post work.

Quick, switch off that Refl_lite_Mult before BB catches you, Linda...

Also check if "Visible in Raytracing" is on for the hair in the object's Properties panel. This is not a material setting, but an object setting. It might be off.

It wasn't checked!  I've checked it and will try another render.  Hopefully that and unchecking "lit_mlt" will do the job :)

Oh! Didn't realise that for hair reflections to show up the Visible in Raytracing had to be ticked... I thought that was just a shadows thing...

Reflection, refraction, AO, IDL, and ray-traced shadows, all are ray-traced effects.

Invisible to ray-tracing means that those polygons are not in the scene (equivalent to deleted) when the ray-tracer does its things.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Hell, I was not even aware of that option! That makes the concept of rendering scene with a vampire and a mirror even more fun to do..

runs off to experiment

Thanks everyone!  It worked like a charm. And unchecking that "lit_mlt" made the reflection even better.  I usually do uncheck it (I did for the floor), but overlooked it for the back prop.

Makes sense, of couse, when you put it that way... no clue why that didn't occur to me. That will explain the dead hair I've been getting in my renders. Oh well, render time will just have to increase. Gives me more time to get that second load of washing folded...
