Subject: Antonia - Opinions?

Thanks for the help on masks.

I've got it working now and just need to edit the maps so they look good. :)

Also found why my eyebrow trans wasn't working, had the wrong template for it...sigh.

I'm working to edit all the make-ups so that each lip color and each make-up are on maps of their own. with one trans map for the lips and one greyscale mask for the lips.

The make-ups will all have to have their own trans and greyscale masks as well as the color one.

This way they can be mixed or matched or any shader nodes added as anyone feels they need for. :)

All will be in PNG format, even the skin textures..

It will take a bit longer but worth it, I think.

Yes, they do but I'll put the make-ups separate and do two zips so it easier to download.

jpg compression just takes so much out of the textures...sigh.

Something did occur to me, is a greyscale mask or a trans map really neccessary if the color map is used as a mask?

Seems to me it is better without them as I'm not using the trans or greyscale either and it works great.

And would jpegs be better than png for the textures and just put the png texture maps on my site as a download bonus?

If you are using nodes to extract a functioning mask from a color map, you won't need grayscale maps for those. In general, avoid any maps you can do without, for smaller zip files and to demand less resources from the user's computer.

I generally prefer jpgs. Photoshop does a great job at compressing them with very few quality loss. I usually set my maps at a quality 8 in Photoshop.

I'm a newbie at such things and a dilettante to boot, but it seems to me that very light-colored makeups might make poor masks.  You might wish to create a very light lip color and try that out to see if it needs a separate mask.

Trying out weight mapped Antonia and conforming clothing made in MarvelousDesigner.

I had some trouble with baggy pants, where the legs cross-contaminated (polys in left leg being assigned to right groin). May be associated with the cloth of both legs touching at the groin.

A more 'jeans' type of garb proceeds better. See image. In some poses there is poke-trough but that is not surprosing with this thight-fitted thing. Joint parameters and grouping is as Poser made them.

Working on the displacement maps for the seams now. As Marvelous designer does it, UV's are laid as in real life flat cloth, so once the seams are done, textures should be easy.

Were the polys assigned to the "right groin" helper bone in Antonia-WM, or just to the right-side groinal region of the hip actor?  How did you do the rigging?

I've found some extreme poses that can create a ridge at the top of the genital or a lump at the front of the shoulder, but these were areas where Classic Antonia's JCMs could encounter difficulties, as well.  I don't have renders, though.  😊

Please remember, this isn't only homage to ODF, as well-deserved as that is for sublime mesh. It's also acknowledgement of hugely superior rigging by the wizard of rigging himself: Diogenes!

> Quote - Were the polys assigned to the "right groin" helper bone in Antonia-WM, or just to the right-side groinal region of the hip actor?  How did you do the rigging?

I didn't do any rigging work on purpose. I even did not trim the rig, so at this moment the characters have all actors, even if those not needed like those for the jaw and the left pinky. The big advantage of weight-mapping over conventional rigging is more easy transfer of bending parameters, so I tried a one-off scenario loading the geometry into the setup-room and load AntoniaWM as she is now. Quick and dirty, doable even for a dumby like me.
AntoniaWM is, as I understand, still in Beta phase, so further work on he rig would be obsolete as soon as work proceeds.

Above's a render of the BaggyPant. You see the 'flying' parts at the thighs.

The problem with the baggy pant was that the automatic slicing of the mesh had polys assigned to the helper bone, and, in this case. a helper bone of the oposite leg. As far as I know there is no way Poser can know that the helper bones are just helper bones. That may be one of the improvements in the process; to have a tick-in-the-box list of actors that are to be considered in the slicing. This would also be helpful for dresses etc where the skirt is not to be sliced into legs and feet.

Fixing the assignment outside the setup room does not help. In that sense a weightmapping transition as done in the Setup-room appears to have same limitatons as morphs. If you simpy re-assign polys in the Pose room you mess up. I did not try yet in the Setup Room.
I tried to slice the mesh first and then skip the automatic asignment, but that messed up the whole bending, with polys flying around all over the place.

Thank you.

I was lucky enough to get a personal license it in the startup-sale. Their commercial licenses are terribly expensive. Unless you expect large sales it may not be worth-while. Personal licenses allow you to sell (for money) trough their store only, but free distribution is allowed.

The baggy pant was a very simple pattern, see below.

Advantage is that if you use your own custom morphed figure as avatar, MD is quite adaptive, and if necessary you can tinker the pattern to make fit.

 Oooh

Nice realism with the shoulder/back of arm areas! AND Antonia is NOT a 20K figure.

Question- is the UV mapping still changing. I dabbled with A awhile back-and there were several different mappings being used.

I am making my own morphs again (Zbrush) and learning to make my own textures (put on hold since Pro2012 came out-currently obsessed with eyes, and teeth, shader experimentation). I'd be happy to make some A morphs-and later textures-(if the community has settled on a UV mapping.)

Faery_Light ( ) posted Sun, 16 October 2011 at 4:24 PM

Eric, the mapping that came with the latest version is the official mapping, I believe.

I've been trying the SSS stuff as well and trying to get a good render for a Halloween image with antonia. But yesterday and today  I felt so awful for some reason and so no work on stuff.

I'm interested in learning Matmatic, it is still a big mystery to me. :)

Working with Antonia, I'd love to do specific shaders for her and the textures I've done. After doing a bit of reading and a couple of trys, I managed to learn how to remove a lot of the burned in specular from my texture maps to give a better look.  By doing this and using better bump and specular, the few shaders I'm working with look better.
