Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
Most users are financially way over their point of no return in V4 investment.
She does NOT bring something NEW.
She does not have "IT".
For some she is too low in Poly's for others she is too High in Poly count.
This something in between will never do.
Support starts with the number of free items at release.
At release there where close to none.
And her future?
Basic rule in life: You never get a second chance for making a first impression.
Nothing, absolutely nothing DS4 or Poser can do about that.

Oh, and I forgot:
Most Poser users follow Antoia's development pretty close.
And NOTHING on planet earth beats FREE.
Certainly not if "FREE" beats "TO PAY" in quality, AND in support, AND in usability, AND in flexibility AND in . . . . feel free to add.

And YES +2.
V5 is for DAZ.
They made a exporter that is a great example of how to make a theoretically simple thing very complicated for the end user.
An exporter of that kind should have been a one click, and one click only.
Export to Poser?
Ahaa, point me to where your your runtime is?
OK, thank you.
Bang, all files in place, ready for use.
THAT is what I call; user friendly.
THAT is what I call; "listen to your customers".
THAT is what I call; flexibility.

Why not just post a V5 thread in the Studio forums? In fact I have made one for you all:-
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2840354
How many more "Why no V5" thread need to appear in the Poser section.
Those that want to export using the exporter know how to do so.
Those that don't want to use V5, won't be interested.
Those that do use V5 in Studio will try to convice Poser user to use V5 with limited success.
So, as I said, it would be so much eaier if a thread for V5 was started in the Studio forum and then comments etc. can be placed there.
All the best.

"V5" is so much less than what has come before, it's 2 FBMs and 8 boobie morphs. I don't think DAZ wants you talking in terms of Victoria/Michael any more.
I think V5 will generate more interest outside the immediate Daz Studio community once there is a native Poser version and she can easily wear V4's wardrobe.
As someone noted above, we all have way too much invested in V4 to go through all that again for a new paid product that is not very compatible with Poser yet. It would be as if Blackhearted came out with Girl Next Door 5 and made it ifor Daz Studio only and with a clunky, limited compatiblity with GND4 or V4. Just no incentive for me to take interest except in a clinical way, such as "oh cool" or "meh" as the case may be.
Anuyway, I think that's why so little discussion outside the Daz Studio world. Most of the talk over here seems to degenerate into Daz vs. Poser mudfights. Some of the threads get locked when it gets ridiculous and they drop down the queue.
V5 isn't a figure per se. It is a character morph for the figure "Genesis" whereas V3 and V4 were actual figures.
Also, as others say, the genesis figure is for DAZ|3D, and so are the character morphs.

Could be.
You wouldn't expect to see a lot about V5 here, since she's a DS figure. And the DS forum here is pretty quiet.
But it's oddly quiet over at the DAZ forums as well. V5 is pretty enough, but the only thing that's really new about her is Genesis. Which isn't really new by now.
I do like how M5 is looking, but assuming the pricing is the same, it's a lot to pay for a full body morph, even if I were a DS user. If there is a major advantage to V5 and M5, DAZ hasn't communicated it.

This seems rather significant, thanks for pointing it out Acadia.

My point exactly. I was surprised when reading the mod's "DAZ vs the World" sticky that V5 has been available for about a month. Usually I like to read what others say about a new Vicky before getting her. So I was surprised at the lack of "reviews" of her.

What everyone else said!
If you've missed the discussions- genesis rigging does not work in Poser.
Daz HAZ created a work-in-progres export function from Daz Studio to Poser 9, and Pro2012. The caveat is that is a low poly count figure- and some portions are not smooth when bent. In Daz 4 the low poly figure is subdivided into a high polygon figure at render-allowing smooth bending.
Poser 9 and Pro2012 allowing rigging using weight maps-which are theoretically capable of producing more life like bending. Genesis takes advantage of the new Daz weight mapping implemented differently and bends more naturally than any other figure that I've seen.
A group of people have been working on a free figure modeled by "ODF" (I think) called Antonia. She is being weightmapped. People are making free and market items for her now.
For ME, as of now-her poly count is a little low for realistic muscle morphs. So I am primarily a V4 ffan. Although Antonia is entering my renders.
People are hard at work weightmapping her-so theoretically she should bend nearly as realistically as Genesis
So no, Poser folk are not very V5 interested as things stand.
DISCLAIMER: this post in no way puts down Genesis or Daz. The editorial opinion of this poster is that Genesis is a terrific product-just not terrific in Poser.
Imax
You've got it exactly- "V5" just capitalizes on the name familiarity of V, V2. V3, and V4-but
could just as well have been Linda
Quote - If V5 is just another body/face morph for Genesis, like the others that have been released for Genesis, I'm not sure exactly what makes her "Victoria 5" other than DAZ saying she's "Victoria 5." Would we know she's V5 if she'd been named Linda or Sue?
Quote - V5 isn't a figure per se. It is a character morph for the figure "Genesis" whereas V3 and V4 were actual figures.

Actually V5 is the same as V3 and V4, except you never had access to the unimesh base, which was the go-between between M3 and M4. Evolution and muscle morphs are the morphs++ and some of those morphs have been changed out under the hood when you select one of the evolution dials or facial expressions. But normally I just throw the body into zbrush and sculpt the body there.
The interesting thing is, if V5 (A morph of Genesis) is as good as a certain company makes out, I would have thought that the DAZ Studio section here at Renderosity would have been full of threads.
I started a thread in the DAZ Studio section and it ihas a massive one reply at the moment.
As people have said in this and numerous other thread, Poser users can't use V5 to her full potential at the moment.
Those that do want to use her, do so. Those that don't dont.
I just cannot see the sense in continually creating threads in the Poser section to get Poser users to use V5.
All the best.

For those that want to use V5, I have ctreated this thread:-
Hopefully wil allow those that want to use V5 to have a place where they can discuss things and not keep creating multiple threads with the same thing over and over again.
Also, this will stop the usual arguments and those that don't want to dicuss V5 know to leave the above thread alone.
All the best.

By using that thread, users can post in it about V5 instead of posting another "Why don't you use V5 in Poser" thread every week or so.
Also, it's easier for those that don't want to get into or read the suual arguments to bypass that thread.
This way those that want to talks about V5 can do so without any problems and for those that don't want to talk about V5 to do other things.
All the best.

Great idea, Richard - it really IS!! - but you know Poser and Daz users. They like to play with firecrackers.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Hey, thats one from me :-)
Throw in some brown, bang a rough displacement map over the lot, (blending clouds, granite, turbulence and or spots) and you should get pretty-pretty close. :-)

I would use V5 like a shot if she was high poly. I bought her and successfully imported her into poser, and I liked the way she changed shape, but even with smoothing on she isn't all that smooth and with such low poly it is hard to imagine she would get good muscle and tendon definition.
Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
Is the "V5" morph the same as the V4 default shape? Is that why this particular morph is pitched as the next evolution of Victoria?
If it's not, someone should make a "V4 Base" morph for Genesis, along with Elite, Stephanie 4, Aiko 4, Girl 4 etc. variations. That would grreatly expand the appeal of Genesis for those who are rather attached to their investment in Generation 4. Along with getting it to work in Poser, of course.
I think someone has made a V4 base of genesis. It was even on sale awhile ago. I just can't really use low poly in poser even though I make toons.

Better figures will come around
High and Low Poly.
For Ester she is too Low Poly.
For me she is too High Poly.
Ester makes amazing stuff.
I morph the hell out of the Low Poly brand.
To each his /her own.
V5 does not do it for eiter one of us.
We are coming into a period where a figure realy has to fill a hole in the market.
Has to bring something NEW.
Has to bring something end users, can not do without.
Untill such figures come around, end users will continue to work with our skills, on whatever we have.

But if by some miracle they did manage to make V5 suitable for poser i would use her.

Re: V5's low poly. I have no personal knowledge, but my understanding is that Genesis subdivides and becomes high poly during posing and then goes back to low again? So how do the bends etc. look after posing and she is low poly again? Logically she would need to be high poly all the time for everything to look smooth, right? Or does she become high poly at render time as well?
Locking the thread would defeat the purpose of generating V5 discussion. Locking threads is part of the reason why there are so few V5 threads in evidence here. Fortunately this one has not (yet) become the senseless mud fight that caused others to be locked. There are some healthy points of discussion here. Simply unsubscribe if you've lost interest in your thread.

Here's how it works...Genesis is a low poly figure that DS4 subdivides into a higher poly form. When Genesis is posed or morphed DS4 stops the subdividing until the figure is still, then the subdivision is applied again. The reason this happens is because it saves calculating time. DS4 calculates the amount of smoothing according to how far Genesis is away from the camera...the closer to the camera there is more smoothing.
Now about V5 being only 2 body shapes & 8 boobie morphs...wrong! She's far more than that. She has morphs specific to her shape for things like closing her eyes. These morphs do not have visible dials, but they are tied into visible dials so that when you have the V5 shape and you use the dial to close her eyes it will be V5's eye closing morphs that will be applied. All the Genesis shapes have this while characters do not. So there is a lot going on that isn't readily visible.
I won't tell anyone that they "have" to try DS4, but I would hope that some give it a try and to have an open mind when they do. Nor will I put down the new versions of Poser because I have not used them and I would hope that many Poser users feel the same way about DS4 and it's users.

I tried it. And agree with DS3 users who have decided to stay with that version. Too bad Genesis doesn't work in DS3. Oh well.

At least you tried. I know the default interface is really bad and some folks just can't get past it. But not every program or upgrade will "click" with everyone. I think some forget that. And that's a pity because we can all learn from each other no matter what program(s) we use to create art.

I did hear the alternate interface was significantly better... but only available in the for-pay versions. I'm on limited funds, so I had to make decisions. <>

It does, but even without it you can getaway from the default look. Think I used Self Serve and City Limits before Darkside came out. Hopefully there will be some new looks for DS4 to become available to all users. ;)
