Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
First, we select our model ... then we use the Grouping Tool to make a New Group with all the polygons in the area to be used for the mini-skirt.
Next, we Create Prop (in the Group Editor) using the selected (red) polygons.
Then, we're ready to export the New Prop using the Wavefront OBJ... Export function.
Now we can Import the New Prop into Wings3D to create our mini-skirt for Fiona.

Now we can Export the "Mini1" object from Poser and then ...... Import it into Wings3D so we can modify it to make a miniskirt for Fiona.
We'd better hurry ... she's getting cold.
If you don't have Wings3D ... download a FREE copy from www.wings.com.

I hear Mr. Naysay is good at chasing skirts.
I just downloaded Blender for OSX to give it a go. Now going to watch the Good Doctor see what he shows us about Wings. Hope this tut really takes off and flys!

**BUT - DO NOT ... I repeat ... DO NOT REMOVE anything ..... yet!

Tweak mode is very useful for modifying a mesh but ...
... it may cause a problem when trying to select vertices, edges, or faces.
So, let's turn it OFF for now. We will use it later.

If you missed a few faces ...
... Just (re) select them and use the .Hole. function again.
Now we can start with the (re) construction on the miniskirt for Fiona.
Now, let's learn how to ...

Now let's get Fiona (or part of her) into Wings and see how we can make the miniskirt fit properly. ... Next ...

I gave it a shot with Sydney's mesh, but I goofed up and didn't take out enough of the leg and hip. The edges were facing inward, so connect didn't work. I'll try it again later and let you know if I catch up to you in this tut, doc.
If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.
Let's color our miniskirt ... Here's how.
Now ... Let's go back to Poser and make ...
... a dressform that we can use in Wings to refine our miniskirt.

Question: Back on tut page 9. you selected the edges first and then went into vertex mode and asked why you did this. Was this done to make sure you only ended up with the correct-target points you wanted and didn't add any strays or some other reason?
Gary
"Those who lose themselves in a passion lose less than those who lose their passion"
Yes, you are correct. It is easier to see (and thus get the correct ones selected) ...
... edges than it is to see vertices and whether or not they are selected.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Export the "Mini1dressform" from Poser and then ...
Import "Mini1dressform.obj" into Wings ...
Then use one of Wings orthographic cameras to view from the FRONT and then move Mini1dressform so it is located in the center of all 3 axes, X, Y, and Z.
Did you forget to apply some color in Poser's Material Room before you exported the Mini1dressform object?
... No problem ... let's see how we can do it in Wings.

Dr Geep. NaySayGuy is crying.
I never understood the mirroring/break thing. Like editing one side of the skirt to fit and the other side will mirror? if that is even possible?

I hate to be the thorn in the side or the pain somewhere else, but Wings 1.4 does no longer have a true mirror function, although I swear I saw it in older versions. Meaning, do half a head, say the left side, select, hit "Mirror", and the right side would appear. And I'll swear Wings used to do that. IIRC, the popup used to give a choice of "Mirror" or "Mirror and create new object."
