Subject: We all need to just RELAX

hornet3d ( ) posted Wed, 28 December 2011 at 4:02 PM

Although I have been buying from Renderosity for some years I only really started to get interested in the forums earlier this year.  I have learnt a great deal from reading the threads even the discussions on different methods of doing things.  It allowed me to go away and play with some of the suggestions and decide which worked for me and those that did not.  I quickly duscovered the people that posted on a regular basis and I found many I respected both for their knowledge and their willingness to share information with others.

Everything was good and I found enjoyment in the time spent reading but in the last few months I have found more and more threads where I decide I will ignore them because I find the personal attacks depress me.  I will admit to being biased in that I have never had much time for the 'mine is bigger than yours' debates that appear in almost all hobbies and other aspects of life.

So for the last few months I have spent more time in Poser and less in the forums, hoping that it would all pass over and believeing that I could not get any worse.  Now on one of my visits I am dismayed to find some of the people whose input I have valued and respected from the start begin to question thelr continuing input.  So I was wrong and I have to accept it has got worse.

I doubt anything I say can change the the path the forums take in 2012 and my continued interest is in the hands of others.  I would however like to make a couple of comments .

  1. The wrong people appear to be leaving.

  2. As someone being old enough to be semi-retired I want my own time to be spent in a way that pleases me.

  3. At my age the last thing I want to do is grow up I enjoying playing with my toys far too much and as long as everyone else is enjoying their toys a really don't care what they are playing with (but I might want to have a go myself)

I do hope that in 2012 I find that there are others that feel like me, or if not, we can find a way to communicate with each other in a way that benefits us both

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Haha, sorry. The more I look through Designfera's store, the more I want now (and that sale ends tonight).

Buying stuff and trying to put it to use is a good way to relax too.  :)

I didn't get it. But then, I don't get any newsletters. From anywhere...lol. :P I'm still not certain if SS was talking about a sale here, Daz or elsewhere.

Being a carrarest I'm not sure if I am stuck in the middle or standing out side

Carrara is owned by DAZ but uses/works with Poser content in a Poser runtime.

Should I be arguing with myself or arguing with both sides?

I can use genesis, but I can't use simmon or sydny.

I'd like to check out anistasia but I dought she works in Carrara.  I've got Genesis but never use it.

I'm ssooooooo confused.

Here of course.

Not sure why you didn't get a newsletter, I almost always get mine very late.  The latest one is called "Sky High Savings" and has a 20% off coupon in it.

Anastasia "might" work in Carrara I'm thinking. The original model is weight mapped and I'm not sure Carrara can use that as it is anyway. But Gabe says he and Deecey found a way to add the morph to Alyson 1, which is a standard rigged version. You may be able to use that, no? ;). I don't think he's released that version as yet tho. Probably soon.

Ignore button. Some sites have it, but then you see (name) post hidden, click to view... and of course I get curious and have to click. So it's not so much an ignore button, as a "how much self-control do you have?" button.

I have a question. Do contractors have all these issues with tools and where they're bought? I mean, if you use Craftsman vs Ryobi, are the results of your work seen as less acceptable? And if you bought your tools in a mall rather than a manly box store, do the other guys laugh at you? Should home buyers be told what brand tools were used in the construction?  And did that company use iPhones, Androids, or Blackberries? Just how far has this permeated through society?

Vestmann ( ) posted Wed, 28 December 2011 at 7:46 PM

Ok. I obviously misunderstood the concept of the ignore button.  I thought it was like the dislike button on youtube.

"I have a question. Do contractors have all these issues with tools and where they're bought?"

That's actually one issue that Poser and DAZ Studio users do not have with each other, only the 'elitists' who look down on 3D hobbyists. Even in the most heated discussions we have in the community, I've never heard anyone from either side say that someone's art isn't as good because of the program they use (which is good because both programs can create pretty much exactly the same type of art).

As I said before, unless you use Stanley and Draper, you're an idiot.

Power tools, though, only Bosch will do.  Forget about those amateur DeWalt, B&D, Makita toys.

Traditional art?  Well, you absolutely have to use Mars Lumograph pencils and erasers.  For paints and inks, Windsor and Newton.  Brushes have to be Daler.  Coloured pencils should be either Derwent or Staedtler.

Anything else and it's plain you don't have a clue about what you're doing.

Don't even get me started on Music or Photography.

Ok... I have to get you started on photography, because I just ordered my first camera since the old Polaroid. Before that it was a Nikon 35mm. Shall we say it's been a while? Got the Canon ELPH on sale at Amazon, and not a clue if it's all right or not, or even what it can do, except stills and 1080p video. Gad, I've held a digital camera one time...

FWIW, I have no kick against either camp. I happily use both, and honestly don't care. I find it hilarious that some folks will go out of their way to show the world just how cramped their rectums have gotten over DAZ, or over certain figures, or over whatever this or that forum does.

Me, I'm totally relaxed (hence the uncontrollable habit of inserting jokes into such threads.) I find the whole thing humorous, really. Gives me the giggles at times.

I do agree with one thing, though - put that energy into building something better. If I weren't in the middle of writing a book (and making a living, and spending time with the missus), I would've done quite a few months ago. Just one bit of advice on that, though - do it out of love for the craft, not out of spite for the Other. If you don't, you end up with a failing product and end up BS'ing everyone about it to cover for the failure. Well, that is until you finally implode online, making a mess for everyone to see. It's ugly, and such incidents should be mourned, not enjoyed.

LOVE my Olympus E620, in fact. 😄

My "old" SLR was a Minolta 5000i and, to paraphrase my late Dad, it took "right purdy" photos. Nothing could beat it for concert photography. In many ways I still miss using it, but but got tired of dealing with film. Besides, trying to track down high-speed film that was worth a flip became almost impossible. Hence the transition (a year ago, mind you) to digital.

This all makes me wonder if the Kindle vs Nook crowds are bickering. Personally, I love my new Kindle, but my sister wants a Nook. Do I care? No. Did we argue over it at Christmas when I opened my present and found a Kindle inside of it? (my sons chipped in and got me one) No. They're both e-readers that are good at what they do -- just different platforms.

Like Android vs Apple vs Windows tablets/phones, etc. I've actually witnessed heated arguments over which is better. How silly can you get? More importantly, who gives a flying fuck?
