Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 27 5:12 pm)
Sorry about your hard drive - had the same thing happen and lost some stuff.
Great to see someone working on a new male figure! He looks excellent :)
Quote - I love the back and (?) Armpit to back area (?) (not sure what that is called. I actually like the brow protrusion as it is. Gives her a very distinct and strong looking face
Thing is, you don't want a "distinct" and "strong-looking" face on a base figure; you want a very bland, "generic" face that can be morphed easily into any other sort of face.
Look at the difficulty people had trying to make Michael 2 or Michael 3 NOT look like Michael 2 or Michael 3.
Oh c'mon guys how many Victoria renders have gravity deflying breasts? Isn't that the look that women are going to the plastic surgeons for these days? I think you're doing a great job Shane, I know it's a work in progress--be true to your own artistic vision. It is great to have figures that can be both aesthetically appealing and realistic looking at the same time. I think the pitfall of the native Poser people is that the artist probably strove for what would be considered "realistic" but in doing so created people who have something subtly wrong about them. I think that's what I find so off-putting about them, although I can't put my finger on it, there seems something not quite right about their default looks--but since they didn't even start with something I consider to be an acceptable looking human face, it's hard to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

--- Lots -- because the breast morphs in Morphs++ aren't convincing at all, and the good gravity morphs that exist aren't generally supported by vendors. People either don't know about morphing clothes or are too lazy to bother.
--- No. No one wants a chest that looks like two soccer balls were nailed on it. A few women with money to throw away are getting surgery to increase size in spite of this look but not because of it.
What I adore about Blackhearted's females is that they are more modestly endowed and hence don't look ridiculous without lots of gravity morphs.
But don't listen to me, ED. The popularity of GND notwithstanding, huge unnatural boobs apparently sell.
ETA: As someone else said, it's a good shape for a "bra morph". In that context, it makes perfect sense for it to be the default appearance. It just looks a bit unnatural in a nude figure. But presumable there would be gravity morphs for a final product, (and you've got a good eye) so it's all good.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
My thoughts are that her breasticles should be shaped for wearing clothes, with the natural sag being a morph, so that clothing is easier to build for her, and the "gravity morphs" would be for nude renders. Otherwise, wouldn't all her tops look like she's not wearing a bra?
They were originally smaller, but both my brothers and my nephew have all said they need to be bigger, so I increased them by about half again as much, to get to what you see now. (of course they all still say they're too small).
As for her face, I want her to be attractive out of the box. I can adjust her brow if it's making her unattractive, as I'm going for a pretty/cute look as opposed to strong. Her face will have plenty of morphs though, just like Lucas.

LOL, Well, you can't argue with your market.
Yes, it makes sense for the default appearance to be a "supported" look. It just seems strange when you're looking at a nude mesh and not thinking of the context.
I like her face. The brow is a noticeable feature, but I wonder if it's not just that it kind of looks slighty drawn or furrowed -- more of an issue of expression than an anatomical one. But if you have any doubts, you could soften it. Jesse has a pretty face, I think, but she always looks so stern. It might be best to avoid a default emotion, particularly a negative one. I'm not being sarcastic when I say that you should probably aim for that vacant fashion model stare.

Keep the breasts as is.
I like the way you have done the back. You've done the best 3d model back that I have ever seen.
Your work is awesome - and I hope to buy everything you make soon.
Oh, please make some poser teenagers too.
Love esther

yeah, teenagers would be good - I am still using Luke, Laura & a number of the gen2 kids.
Get out that whip, Esther!
After the teens, can we have a baby, too? And some toddlers? Also, I'd like a dwarf, a giant, and some flying squirrel people. ;)
ETA: Sorry, please forgive me. I've been working on a project all night, and the test renders are taking an awful long time.

Personally I'd have more use for flying monkey people. But maybe that could be a character morph for the flying squirrel people base figure...
;-)

Nocturnal marsupials native to Australia, Tasmania and other surrounding lands. About the size of a hamster with really long prehensile tails and petagium that allow them to glide through tree tops like flying squirrels. They live on insects and fruit, berries. They started becoming pets in the US sometime in the late 1980s or early 90s. Considered exotics in the US and illegal to own in some states, very expensive little creatures with high maintenance - diet has to be be made by hand. In at least some parts of Australia they're as common as ground squirrels are in the US. In the states, they've been bred into all sorts of colors ranging from reds to platinum whites. My ex and I started raising them, but I started feeling guilty about how many of them are abused and neglected because most people don't know how to properly take care of them, or just get too lazy and stop caring for them properly. They can't be left in a cage and fed kibble - they have very strict diets and require a lot of interaction and exercise. But if you bond with one they are awesome little creatures - nothing else like it.

He he... I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier crossbreed from the local rescue centre... unfortunately for him he doesn't get let off his lead anymore because he can sprint fast enough to catch most cats... and there are a lot round here... and he won't learn not to chase them.
Fortunately for everyone the only time he actually got a chance to catch up with one and corner it, I caught up with them both before things escalated.
But not before the cat had sprayed him... despite numerous baths, he smelled bad... for days!
He just kept sniffing at himself and looking confused...

LOL. I don't think Kira has ever seen a cat before. I don't know what she'd do if she was ever confronted by one. She'd probably run and hide behind me or run into her kennel or under my desk - her two safe spots. She's the biggest wuss dog I've ever met. Just turned 1 year old on May 24th. I don't need to keep her on a leash cause she stays right by me where ever we go. She won't even leave the yard if I'm not with her. But I've been training her since she was small enough to take baths in the kitchen sink, so she listens pretty well, most of the time.

He he... aside from the overwhelming cat / squirrel / distant HGV chasing instinct, my dog Rojo, is something of a sensitive soul too. If I so much as think about uttering a swear word (e.g. when my 10 hour render has just crashed out at 96%) he runs up and tries to climb up and lick me in the face ;-)
By the way, veering off-topic, but as well as the family of new Poser humans (plus dwarf, giant and miscellaneous critters) I'd really like to see someone make some new common quadropeds...
There are a few horses I guess... maybe still not a really up to date one...?
But a high quality, realistic, set of weight-mapped successors to the Mil Dog and Mil Cat would be well received I suspect.
The great thing about these is the lack of wardrobe issues. But I'm still surprised by the apparent lack of character / texture packs for the Mil dog, cat and horse in particular...
...e.g. why no high quality substitute dynamic or conforming manes / tails for the Mil Horse?
Are animals generally just avoided because of the lack of technology to support realistic fur, at present?
...and I guess, the limited mileage in making and selling peripheral content for them?
But that said, I recently got a bunch of items from the Songbird Remix product line on sale. This would surely be a great product line example for someone to follow, in making more quadropeds... and encompassing all the breed / subspecies diversity, in a collectable format?

Not sure about that but I appreciate the confidence. If I could turn it into a full time job that'd be great. But then I'd probably have to hire someone.

I wish you could too.

I have this character morph for Antonia that I've been working on, but her weight maps are really screwing with me. I guess its because of the drastic changes in body shapes, but I really wasn't planning on redoing her wm's, just for a character morph. So I'm not sure if I'll finish it or not. I was planning on doing a full outfit, wig, body texture and set of poses, but the wm's have put the skids on it.
~Shane
your own original poser people will be really fantastic. Can't wait to play with them.

Nice looking Antonia morph... :-) But yes, I'd personally, definitely prefer to see you focus on you own originals for now...
I guess this is the issue with dealing with weight maps, as a character artist... they are possibly going to need redone if a body shape changes too far??
I guess what you might want to consider doing, as a base figure creator, is to produce a range of CR2 versions from the base mesh, for several different key body shapes... with optimised adustments made to weight maps etc, by you, as the figure creator... so that character morph / texture creators aren't getting lumbered with that?
At the same time, if you were doing something like that, I guess you also want to avoid making differences between such a range, that would prohibit them sharing clothing or hair... or uv mapped textures.
Cheers
;-)

Yes. Experimenting with Antonia has led me to that exact conclusion. The weight maps present issues I hadn't anticipated. So as it stands, it's very likely that each new figure is going to need different cr2s. That's not a good thing. I'm trying to figure out a way to work around it. But I think better geometry may eleviate that issue, at least to some extent.
~Shane
I think each new figure will need a new Cr2. a one size fits all is called genesis.
