Subject: Is there any demand for content for Alyson2 (anastasia)?

AmbientShade ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2012 at 11:17 AM

When creating a full body morph, or clothing, to be redistributed, how do you know what parts of the cr2 are legal and what parts arent? How do you know what you have to take out and what you can leave in? Clarification on this would help me greatly.

yeah, not to sound ungrateful but please take extra care not to accidentally include any Anastasia/Shae morphs/JCMs/expressions/materials with the dev rig.

paganeagle2001 ( ) posted Thu, 31 May 2012 at 12:04 PM

The dev rig is only for Alyson 2 and does not include anything that should not be there.

Rules I tend to stick to:-

Use default character, take out materials, morphs, magnets.

Nothing in there for Anastasia or Shae.

All the best.

I think I will keep the current version I have offline, a few friends will have it, but the previous version will now be suspended from being abled to be downloaded.

I will now wait for an official dev rig via SM.

i think a community made/amended dev rig is a better idea.

with an 'official' SM dev rig, youre looking at SR3 before you even see it, and then SR4 or Poser 2013 before it ever gets updated to fix any bugs.

OK, it has already been touched on, but for those that want to make things for Alyson2, you need to get her out of Poser the right way.

Load up Poser, Load in Alyson2.

Take off the IK for both legs.

Now you need to Zero your figure, Figure Menu at top of the screenZero Figure.

Export out as an OBJ.

Your now ready to start making things.

The same applies for Anastasia etc.

Load in Alyson2. then the Anastasia morph, then do the above.

Work on Alyson2 first, then use that version to change the shape to Anastasia.

DON'T extrude etc. as you will not get the same poly count and will not be able to load in the new version as a morph.

You just need to push polys about, nothing else.

Save the 2nd version.

Load up the Alyson2 version and rig it.

When loading in the Anastasia version, have the Alyson2 rigged version on screen.

Object menuLoad Morph Target.

Set your properties for this morph to a max of 1 and a min of 0.

Save again (use as a different version just in case!!!!!).

And that's how it's done.

All the best.

When loading morphs from .obj, does it still need to be done for each body part separately?

I noticed a load full body morph in the menu, but it did not work the one time that I tried it

if you exported the entire figure, then the Load Full Body Morph function in the Figure menu works great.  IIRC it also creates an FBM dial on the BODY element.

i also recommend the PML script from ColorCurvature, although Hannes is on vacation right now and his site seems to be down, his scripts are an excellent addition to Poser.

they also eliminate the micro-translations due to rounding errors that you will get whenever exporting objects using Poser's built-in exporter.

Tessalynne ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2012 at 1:08 PM

Dumb question time. :)  Is there a special reason to export the object from Poser in Alyson2's case, as opposed to just using the .obj ?(normally in the geometries folder, but located in the character folder in Alyson's case)

I ask because, whenever I have attempted tinkering in the past,  I have always just used a copy of the base obj since my feeble brain has difficulty holding on to the info about which obj import and export options need to be used for which tasks. lol

paganeagle2001 ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2012 at 1:11 PM

Others may be able to answer, but I've always done an export OBJ, just the way I learned way back!! Lol.

well it depends:  if you were modeling clothing for a morphed character it would be a lot better to export the morphed OBJ and work on that.

for base morphs its best to work on the base object from the geom folder, however PML will allow you to export a custom T-pose better suited for morphing.

as an aside, im not sure this is common knowledge but you can extract/create compressed OBJ files (OBZs) by just renaming the extension to/from .zip. its a lot less painless to use winzip, winrar, etc than using Poser's built in compresser - with which ive gotten some strange results from time to time. once it 'compressed' a 50 meg CR2 to 130 megs O_o

Tessalynne ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2012 at 1:24 PM

Okay, makes sense.  sigh Guess if I am going to tinker I will have to break weak and finally learn how to use both PML and PFE.  I have a bad habit of buying tools and never mastering their use.

I now return to my regularly scheduled activity of waiting for WIP's to drool over from those with actual skills. lol

LOL Dude! It's not that bad.

We did Poser content for years before PML and for the MacChallenged they will still need to use the old ways to do "reverse deform". Not that I recommend the procedure to any but the bravest of Poserverse adventurers.

Basically it amounts to substituting the bent, morphed, or otherwise customized geometry that was exported for the figure's normal OBJ Then load your newly created morph and then switch the OBJ back to the original. There's more to it than that but you get the idea. PML basically automates that base geometry substitution process and then does all the dependency coding for you too.

As far as morphing or creating clothing for A2 or any Poser figure it is alway s best use the OBJ in the Geometries (or in A2's case the Character's) folder. In the case of Anistasia or any other Character Morph you will have to use the Poser export.

So what's the big difference? Well firstly it's just plain easier to just grab the existing OBJ. But, the real issue is the posibility of goofing and missing maybe a body translation of 0.00001 or a sneak hidden morph that was applied when you exported. After you've spent hours (days, weeks?) crafting a new outfit or morph and discover you didn't really have the figure zeroed when you exported that mannequin you will never again use an exported mannequin unless absolutely necessary.

So, in the case of Anistasia, I hate so say she's just a morph because she's a great character, but she really is a morph of Alyson2. As hard as it is to look at Alyson all day clothing makers should work off her and add Anistasia as a morph. That way all the other morphs will work correctly.

Be careful with GND:Shae. She's a compound on top of anistasia. If you fully morph the clothes from A2 to Shae the morph won't match when GNDA and GNDS are both dialed to full. The best way will be to make Shae fit without the Anistasia morph. that way when they compound the will work together. (If you have PML you can morph from Anistasia to Shae. No fun by hand!)

if Anastasia's JCM's are different from Alyson2, would that mean conforming clothes (like sleeves?) for Alyson2 won't follow Anastasia properly?

Lyrra ( ) posted Sun, 03 June 2012 at 7:08 PM

JCM = Joint Controlled Morph

JCM's are generally corrective morphs that activate when a certain joint is bent a certain way.  Anastasia has some that Alyson2 base does not.

In most cases the clothing should fit, but there might be some pokethrough in places like elbows and shuolders when joints are bent.

The solution is ... more JCMs lol or fix morphs that can be manually applied by the user. I prefer manual solutions, partly because I'm terrible at programming, but also because it gives the user more control.

This is likely obsolete if using PML, but I wrote this python script back in 2005 that might still be handy (save attached .txt file and remove the .txt from the name).

Basically what it does is create a 'Prop' out of your morphed figure - with the morphs applied - to the original .obj file vertices without any rigging-induced error.

You can then Export this prop as a .obj file to be used as a 'mannequin' in your 3D app for creating morphs in clothing for that (morphed) figure.

Cheers.

you mean softbody compression, say above and below a tight belt?

I dont think Poser can do that. You can get the effect by using magnets, my TailorMe magnet set can be used to approximate softbody collission effects.

Or you can use the morph brush on the figure after posing to add the effect in

One set left to model .. but now I have to map and rig everything. ugh

This is a great character. I love Anastasia. I have been working on a skin texture for Alyson 2 but I do not have the hang of morhping her face yet. I think if I were more talented I could use the morphing tool in PP12 and do some non-dialed work, but so far I have been deleting it every time as it gets to a point that I just throw in the towel and start over. I wonder if there is a good product out there that is comparable to Morphs ++ only for Alyson 2 as I especially want more control over the eyes, nose and lips and face shape, basically the head. The body morphs are already pretty awesome, it's just the face morphs that have me stumped. I applaud Blackhearted for being able to make such a beautiful character from her.

LOL! I guess Blackhearted sort of did

I was just rendering my character texture on Blackhearted's Anastasia. I used her as a jump off to morph from, and it was way easier to come up with something that I liked. I don't know how Blackhearted did it. The nose looks so good, yet if I try it myself I am just blah.

I would  love to be able to offer her, but I would worry about trying to package a character for GNDA. There is a fear that I might inadertently violate copyright, which I do not want to do. In any case she is just a WIP at this  point with a lot of work ahead to make her a viable character. Suggestions for improvement are welcome.

The render at the top of the post is the character anyway.
