Well, that basically sums it up folks.  Want to make sure before I add everything I installed it in the right place.  I thought the (x86) folder was for 32 bit programs.

i havent installed Poser in awhile but i seem to recall you can uncheck the option to install 32 bit files. i dont see why anyone who is running a 64 bit system would want the 32 bit files.

personally, I do not install 32bit version either, but I understand that some video codecs are not available in 64 bit and some people use that version of Poser for the movie making part only

I don't put Poser in any of the Programs Folders. I only install the 64 bit version too.

Thanks --- now one thing I'm confused about......you say the 64 bit version too --- is it supposed to give you a choice for 32 bit or 64 bit?

I thought I was doing the right thing just installing into the main out of the (x86) folder.

there are other locations, user name etc but I've been installing Poser versions for a decade and just prefer straight directory routes on an separate partition

The program will read the 64 bit and install and add the 32 for any cases that require it for the program. Mine installed both automatically I can see you may have an ad-in or something that works with 64 bit but only runs in 32. it's better to be safe than sorry.

Yep, this is what I always do with Poser.

It's been a while since I installed Poser but I think it will automatically install the 64 bit version and give you the option to install the 32 bit version too. That option is already checked but I unchecked it and haven't had any occasion when I've needed it. You may wish to install both if you have space on your new hard drive and then if you don't want it later you can uninstall it.

Do a default install.
SM knows it solftware and proposes a installation inside programs folder.
The 32 bit installation is optional.
The content goes into your shared folder. The upper and first selection.

Doing a default install will pay off in the end.

And then run the SR2.1 update available from the SM website.

Don't know about other folk, but I have installed Poser into C: on a 64-bit Win 7 OS.  Can run without problem.

My new computer had two harddrives, a small solid state disk for windows and a large conventional one for programs and data. A lot of installers use C: by default, so check it out.

I have never installed anything on my c:drive, i only use that for windows, my poser 2012 64 and all previous versions and content reside all on their own on my G:drive, this makes backing up and any system problems alot easier.

On previous computers, I have also done what shedofjoy is saying. In my case, I had a partitioned hard drive: c: for windows OS, and D: for applications and data.  Works also.

I never install any of my graphic apps in the default windows program folders. (The only exception is adobe. xxx)

When you use those folders, windows 7 uses its UAC security systems for file access, and that can break some functionailty, or cause aditional approval selections when adding/deleting items.

I'd rather not disable UAC, so installing them to a new c:3dprogram name works best for me. (Plus then I can just do a mass backup of my whole 3d folder.)

I have installed all my programs on the 'C' drive but then I took an image of the drive which has a back up stored in two different locations.  

My Poser runtimes are external and backed up every week, using Karen's Replicator, which means in theory, I can install a couple of new drives copy the image and the runtimes overnight and have the system back where it was with minimal hassle.   I did the same on a non-Poser PC at the end of last year and it worked as planned so it should work.

Beg pardon, I failed to mentioned that this configuration was using windows XP 32-bit; it was my previous computer.
