Thanks folks! Yes Misangelic, it is someone staring through the window (wall grate in this case).
Not to worry superboomturbo, you are off the Christmas card list
@Abi - I thought the set of prints are someone staring through the window.
Thats why its creepy!
Abi.

Here goes nothing :)
The lighting isn't right, but there was no way I could match the lighting in the backdrop and have her well lit. So science got told to take a hike for art's sake. Shadows aren't strong enough either, because I used mesh lights instead of spots or points. Lots to learn yet about Reality, which is why I'm here I guess, lol.
The exhiliration of obscenity, the obscenity of obviousness, the obviousness of power, the power of simulation... ravishing Hyperrealism... mind blowing!
Quote - Poor Helen.. did you actually read that?
I started to read it, but then my eyes went squiffy and my head started to hurt sniff
I've rendered a hyper-realistic glass skull before now, and it made the s/p take a hit. Totally worth it though!

I like the lighting, think you did a good job of getting it to match the background. I have learned to stay away from point and spot lights and stick with what reality has or my own mesh lights, will save in render time. Since it is morning/evening light, the softer shadows work IMO.
Like the glass in the laterns, well done. My only thing is I would increase the bump on the stone to make it stand out more. love the character.

Great scene, but creepy as hell! She is rather calm for having such a large peeping tom, LOL.
Do we get to see the footage from when she is being watched in the bathroom, LOL

Thanks for the comment, Michael. Greatly appreciated :)
I tend to prefer using mesh lights because they really kick the realism up a notch, IMHO. There were two curved mesh lights by the right of the shrine, and the backdrop is a plane converted to light. I don't normally use backdrops because they can dictate the lighting, but I figured I should try and get used to using them.
@Reggie68 - That's a nice image, and I like the use of FOV to give a sense of movement. Not sure that any of the female athletes have a pair of wally jumblats quite that big though :)

Quote - That made me smile.. from here on out.. my wife's will be called wally jumblats and she'll wonder where the hell it came from until she catches up on forum posts.
Nice! But I must credit Adrian Edmondson with the term. I read it in one of his books when I was thirteen and had tears streaming down my face I laughed so much.

Quote - > Quote - My latest Genesis scene hangs when I click render frame. it is just Genesis, hair, and a few pieces of clothing. It brings up the exporting materials, lights and geometry message but never goes any further. Lux never launches.
I need another set of eyes to look and see if I have something in the .lxs that is screwy
There is nothing wrong in the .lxs. The most likely problem is a material in your scene. A simple test: load the lxs in LuxRender and start the render. Click the Log tab and watch the messages. You should see one (maybe more) in red. They might give you an idea which material zone is orreneous. If it doesn't, then the only way to find out is by removing an item from the scene, and send it to Lux via Reality. If it doesn't work, then Edit - Undo Delete in DS, delete something else and send to Lux. Repeat until you find the item which causes the problem.
I had actually tried these except for the manual load into Lux - I did get some errors:
[2012-08-05 11:08:07 Error: 2] PLY loader error: Unable to open file
[2012-08-05 11:08:07 Error: 2] Shape #26 (plymesh): Unable to read PLY mesh file 'none'
I hid one item at a time to no avail.
Of interest is that the scen renders fine in 3Delight and then DAZ closes fine. However if I "try" to render the scene with reality/lux, DAZ gets a fatal error when closing:
DAZStudio.exe caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module "C:Program FilesDAZ 3DDAZStudio4QtCore4.dll" at 0033:000000006359D2F8, QEventLoop::exit()+8 byte(s)
I am just going to start a new scene! Hopefull I will not have a repeat performance
Thanks for all your comments re my renders folks, much appreciated. Apologies for using your style Bob :)
Quote - Doc, the Borrower is a great render. I loved the lighting in it. I thought she was watching the borrowers on tv.. and that she was a borrower being spied on by a regular human. Whatever the true story is, it's a really nice image.
Thank you. Yes, you are correct. She is a borrower, watching the borrower movie on TV.
Quote - Abi, very nice scene! How did you get the light to have those shadows? It's very interesting.
Thanks,
The light is the Reality Sun, just dropped the gain to 0.75 and upped the default gain to 1.25 to soften the sunlight and give softer shadow edges, the sunlight is aimed though the middle window (If you have West park Lobby you'll see there are 3 huge arch windows on that level) at the model.
I'm similar to yourself that I'm new to Reality so I'm just messing with basic settings, eventually I'll start trying some depth of field adjustments and ibls etc...
Abi.

Huh ? I never took it as offensive! The giant is a bit small. Its almost like one eye should be looking in. Her feet are sunk in the ottoman (what can I say its what I do)
This section is more regular size ppl sequence. I know LOTG is a more unknown scarse older campy cult classic. One thing I like to do is crossovers with more current / known series. Last episode was with Star Trek this episode is....
Quote - The Borrower(s)
Doc, LOVE the scene and the voyeur. Just one little thing. IF realism is an objective. The light levels are considerably off for the amount of light fixtures (level too low) especially at that colour. (rule of thumb whiter/bluer light sources more efficient than yellow) They are too white! Those type of lights are usually quite yellow and run about 2800K - 3200K depending on if they are incandescent or halogen.
You could have the light level where it is but then the colour may be even warmer (lower) as dimming incancesent sources makes them burn a warmer colour.
In case you are wondering, I was in the lighting industry for almost 30 years.
I will be interested to try some IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) files I can get for various fixures at some point. Evidently LuxRender supports them. But only for Science sake. I like to set my own (often unrealistic) light levels.
Just an FYI
Thanks Arumbus. One day I'll re-render it with your suggested light settings.

Those are great.
Quote - Okay... I don't know if this is correct or not; but, on the issue of the efficiency stat; according to Lux's website, the higher your efficiency is the easier it is for Lux to find and process your lights. Since finding those lights seems to be about 90% of the game with Lux this translates to your render looking like a render with fewer passes. I did some testing last night and made an excel spreadsheet with the details. I was rendering the daz3d '61 vette and made 5 minute test renders after making a string of changes to the materials on the car itself. Then rendered with and w/o gpu accelleration and with and w/o rendering in a cube. You can see the massive increase in efficiency when rendering in a cube. Sadly all the renders were done with the same file name so no screenies to show the results. BUT, without the cube and with low efficience; I was getting more samples/sec and more passes; but after 5 minutes my car was still very amorphous. With the cube and with massive efficiency, my car was looking like a car after just a couple passes.
Here a LINK to the spreadsheet on my google docs for those who may be curious enough to check it out.
Thanks for the spreadsheet sharky! I do so wish you had the renders though.
I must say, your data has made me curious of the efficency versus speed argument I've debated with myself. I've pounded it into my head that the ks/s was the key, and much to my surprise, if may not be the golden egg I thought it was. Hmm!
While reading through posts, I don't recall who mentioned it, but I'm also using an AMD 1090T Black. It handles overclocking quite well, but I'm watercooled too. Makes a difference this time of year here in Texas!

I've been re-installing/organising my runtime content and had an OMG moment when I saw I had an almost perfect replica of one of my favorite friday night dresses, had to run a render.
The dress has slightly different cups and is slightly longer than mine, the hair is fairly close too (mines not quite as long, mines slightly darker red too), the main difference is the model (Claudia) is pretty! hehe
DS/Reality2
Model: PD Claudia V4.
Outfit: V4EN Dress.
Set: Infinity Cove paper Roll.
(Needs to run longer, I will upload to Rendo Gallery and credit paulo tomorrow, already uploaded today)...
Enjoy,
Abi.

Quote - I guess thats when we will know if there is upgrade to 3 from DS? Or is this just a release for Reality for Poser?
Sorry Bob, can't share much more at this time. We are going to have a joint Press Release with Smith Micro on Tuesday. After that I will take all your questions. I was supposed to be there at the show in the Smith Micro booth to demostrate Reality 3 for Poser. In fact I had planned to drive to LA today, but my wife fell suddnly ill on Wednesday and she has been hospitalized. She is recovering now but that changed our plan. The good part about this is that I will be online to reply to all your questions. That will happen after Smith Micro will make thr official announcement.
Thank you so much for your interest and support.
Cheers

Thank you Bob, a sudden ulcer perforation that was actually life threatening. Amazing how these things can happen out of the blue. An experience like this makes you really appreciate your good health, if you have it. She's recoverying quickly but this week has been tough! :)

SBT.. it was quite easy for me to do. I've been doing nothing productive lately other than beating my brains in trying to teach myself a bit of content creation/customization. Would be no biggee for me to duplicate the test and show you the differences. Wonderful thing about that spreadsheet is that everything is right there and I(hopefully) annotated the changes I did along the way well enough to duplicate the experiment.

Thank you John.
She is finally home and recoverying here, so things look up. She had so many IVs that even the nurses commented on the amount of iv "bags" on her "tree. " For a few days she looked like a female version of Darth Vader: more machine than human :)
Anyway, she is finally home and with some care and rest she should be out of risk soon. Funny thing what a nasty bit of bacteria can do to ya. We eat well, mostly vegan, we exercise regularly so we try to be in the best shape we can, but if you catch a nasty bug it can actually cause a hole in your guts.
Be careful out there :)
PS: sorry for the off-topic, it's Sunday, late and I'm just happy that she is back home.

We're all sending many thoughts of positivity & strength for her speedy recovery & healing. Our health is such a precious & fragile gift that we so often take for granted. I'm happy to hear that she is home & getting lots of VIP TLC :-)

Poor Helen.. did you actually read that? If you did... one thing I forgot to note was the biggest hit to my render speed was changing the car's headlights and windshield to actual glass material instead of the default glossy D|S texture. It just about chopped my render speed in half
