cool.

who/what is dregon?

I've heard about WM but since I can't use it in P7 not sure what it is.

This is Dregon....not to take any attention away from Miki or Tyler. The trick with Dregon was that his wing membranes were not separate geometry and spanned the length of several body parts - so how do we rig it without the mesh tearing up and stuff? Weight mapping and affected body actors! :-D  I also used Dregon to demonstrate some of the power of Dependent Parameters - his wing controls are all DP's and are kind of mini-animations for wing flapping and the like.

Quote - I've only modeled Miki 3/4, the Poser 8 dog, Andy and Andrea, Hana, James Johnson and some clothing in my brief time as part of the content team.  I like to think I'm getting better as I delve deeper into what makes a good Poser figure but I'm not deluded enough to think anything I've made is above improvement, so yeah, no worries about her little footsies. The info has been catalouged in my wee noggin' and will help make the Poser 10 characters all the better.

Edit: and Dregon...how did I leave him out? The rigging problems he represents was part of the reason we even have weight mapping. lol

It's great the creators visit a thread like this and display such a great attitude. Well done, guys!

Thanks. We're always around. We may not always be vocal but we're here. We read the threads good and bad and do our best to address issues that pop up and continue trends that are positive if possible. Every opinion matters to us, without you, we would all be out of jobs. :-D

Really interesting about Dregon.

How did they do it before weight-mapping?  The various other dragons, pterosaurs, bats?  There are Poser models of those that are not weight-mapped.

I'd like a male counterpart to Miki.

How about fixing the G2 figures.  Seriously.

I really would like a fully symetrical Sydney.

The wing membranes were usually separate geometry, in most cases, a plane, which was easier to deal with.

Well, I guess this technically is outside of NDA, as it's not an official project but something I'm doing on my own time but I've recently started remodeling James. Not sure when I'll get him finished but my goal is to make a better and lighter version that's modeled more for articulation.  Maybe I'll give Sydney a try too.  I know that there were some folks updating the current version of the G2's to be weight mapped.

Anyway, Miki and Tyler's release is getting closer by the day.  It will be really cool to hear what everyone thinks after some hands on time with them.

Teyon,

Anytime I can get better men in my runtime, I am in heaven.  Men get so little attention.  Thank you for considering doing this.

ssgbryan ( ) posted Sun, 02 September 2012 at 10:40 AM

Teyon, I am glad to hear about you working on James.  As far a Sydney the problem is the mesh isn't symetrical - so we can't get things like NGM for Sydney.

Teyon ( ) posted Sun, 02 September 2012 at 11:46 AM

Really? I didn't know that. I'll have to take a look at her.

Yes, I asked the vendor that makes the NGM series about a Sydney NGM & he said because of this he couldn't do it.

foxylady1 ( ) posted Sun, 02 September 2012 at 12:04 PM

Teyon,

Are there any more pictures we could look at?  Just one of each would make me happy for a week or two.

Teyon ( ) posted Sun, 02 September 2012 at 12:22 PM

Nothing else I can show at the moment. Sorry. :-/

toastie ( ) posted Sun, 02 September 2012 at 5:36 PM

I want to see what her feet look like in different positions. She looks a bit flat-footed (common problem with Poser characters) in that full length pic. The rest of her looks good though.

Teyon ( ) posted Sun, 02 September 2012 at 11:39 PM

She has a foot arch morph to arch the inside sole of the foot.  Also make sure you drop to floor when looking at them. I think they load a little embeded, not sure why but I'm sure there's a reason.

JohnDoe641 ( ) posted Mon, 03 September 2012 at 1:25 AM

I don't have a foot fetish but tbh Anastasia has the more realistic looking feet I've ever seen on a Poser created morph/character. I took a good look at Miki4's feet, it may just be the POV but the right foot looks slightly short/stumpy and a tad bit thin on the left. More pictures would help eleviate any concerns I have... hint hint. ;)

toastie ( ) posted Mon, 03 September 2012 at 6:21 AM

I don't actually have a foot fetish! ;)

But I do a lot of ballet/modern dance renders and so feet are important.

The only figures/characters I've found so far with anything like reasonable feet are GND2&4 and GND Anastasia. Blackhearted does good feet!

Be interesting to see how Miki4's foot arch morph works out.

shante ( ) posted Mon, 03 September 2012 at 11:44 AM

There are some really nice morphs for V4 feet here at Rosity store. Foot fetish or not if you use feet in your renders they are a great addition to V4.

Angela1 & 2 has great feet too There are extra moving parts so it makes posing them nicer. Takes a while to get used to posing them in shoes especially if not made for her but the artists has offered seversl shoes for them both.

Don't know about you all but even Posette had cute feet for Posette.

The foot I can see looks cute enough. Reminds me of V3's short toed feet. Wish there wasn't so much shadow in the render.

I guess this version of Mikki's feet seem better but it is the strange toes especially the big toe and the ball of the toe I always found funny looking. From the dark image paoted here these look better.

Does she bend as well as Antonia or Angela?

OT:

Sydney G2's mesh is far beyond simply asymmetrial. You cant even mirror morphs or weight maps in Poser on her.

It is a complete mess otherwise as well.

Her inner mouth parts and eyes are the bulk of the poly count in the character!!!!

There are a lot of loose vertex points in her head and mouth as well. Her inner mouth is not even connected to her head.... There are some in her hands, belly button, and crotch as well if I remember correctly.

So if you squint really hard it's kind of monday-ish. Right? Here's a taste of things to come. This is from an older build, I don't know if her textures and stuff are the same, as I've moved on to another project but I made a promise and I thought I'd keep it.  Well...almost keep it anyway. (Are you sure it's not Monday?)  Look for more recent and official renders soon gang.

Thanks for the new pictures.  Really like the lower left face.

Teyon ( ) posted Thu, 13 September 2012 at 7:17 PM

Cool and thanks. The top one is Miki 3 Weight Mapped and the bottom is Miki 4. They are part of the same CR2, so you get both heads.

estherau ( ) posted Thu, 13 September 2012 at 10:35 PM

Wow, that looks really interesting.  Miki 4 is cute!!!

Looks good. The expressions and body build remind me more of Angela1&2 by Mankahoo whose work I love. Can't make out the feet but seem to look a great improvement from the earlier MIKI figures. Look forward to seeing more.

JohnDoe641 ( ) posted Fri, 14 September 2012 at 12:42 PM

Thanks for the new images, Teyon.

I can't really tell too much from the images but are the breasts influenced by the shoulder/arm being lifted like they should be? Alyson2 suffers from having them not move at all which is totally impossible/unatural in the real world and I did report it but nothing was ever done about it. I really hope that one of my favorite figures doesn't suffer from this same defect.

Teyon ( ) posted Fri, 14 September 2012 at 12:59 PM · edited Fri, 14 September 2012 at 1:02 PM

There is a lift when using the arm up/down in both the shoulder and the arm ABC's in the Body. It's not handled quite how I would have done it but it's there in the ABC/shoulder and looks good. I didn't do the JCM's.

Edit: I'll try to do a render of her footsies later today if I can. Glad you all like what you see so far.

Teyon - I can't find that head morph on my beta copy of Miki4. There is a slaved morph on the eyelashes called "Miki4 Head Morph" but no such name on the head. Any advice? Do the beta sites get an update? I have a lot of complaints about this miki but I figured there would be another update by now. If this is close to final, then I have a lot of bug reports to make.

For example, both bikini parts ask for obj files that don't exist. They are obz.

Teyon ( ) posted Fri, 14 September 2012 at 3:15 PM

There should be a head morph in the Head actor under Morph>Miki4Morphs labeled Miki4. If you don't have a build with that then something screwy is going on with your version and you should re-download. Everything else, as far as I know is now final. It's likely the concerns you have were already addressed but you should always post up a report if you catch something as soon as you catch it (as you know). Feel free to report whatever it was you found, if Darrell's already corrected it, he'll close the bug.

Temporary blindness:

Eyes, Face, Lips, Mouth, Nose

Eyes, Face, Lips, Mouth, Nose

once more:

Eyes, Face, Lips, Miki4Morphs, Mouth, Nose

Weird how the brain works. I just kept filtering it out as "one of these things is not like the others".

Thanks for the pointer.
