I notice that if I use Shoulders Wide, which just dials up the xscale on the collar bodyparts, the arms dislocate at the collar/shldr join on bending the arms down.

But this happens as well (in fact even worse given where the boundaries of the collars in the torso are) with V4 in Poser, just as it's always done when differentially scaling one axis of a bodypart since I started using Poser with Poser 4 (which was a main reason why I started using DS for rendering some of my characters that needed differentially one-axis scaled body parts back in 2006 when such scaling was fixed to work right in DS).

I had understood this had been finally fixed in one Poser 9/Pro 2012 SR, so I am a bit puzzled. I'm guessing that because the function has been broken for so many years in Poser, DAZ have not done something needful for their figures to function this way in the now-finally-fixed Poser as they did work in DS, and one couldn't easily see what was wrong for Poser when the function didn't work in Poser anyway. Does anyone know specifically what the issue is? Some particular joint parameter? With the function now working in Poser, perhaps DAZ will fix whatever it is that needs fixing in the Gen4 figures and Genesis for this to work in Poser as it does in DS.

For me, the installation was pretty easy ... I installed ONLY the plug-in to the Poser installation directory; then I creatd an external runtime (D:/Content/Genesis) and placed all my Genesis content, including the content files furnished with the DSON importer, into it.

I haven't been using DAZ Studio, so I haven't had to worry about double installations ... but I suppose if I did, I could just point the DAZ content manager to the Genesis runtime and have them both work.

There is a "Fix Mismatched Scale" button in the Joint Editor that will resolve the problem (for Poser 9 users, you'll find it added in Poser 9 SR 3.1).  Read the manual, as the steps have to be performed in a specific order.

Hopefully an easier fix for this is to instead log in, add something else to your cart, then go to your cart, BOTH items should be there.  Remove the one you didn't want and check out with the DSON importer and enjoy!

For those having problems "purchasing" the plugin...that's a problem many have been having for awhile now.  If logging in doesn't fix it, delete your DAZ cookies, clear your cache, and start again.  Their new web site really is a pain.

The Fix Mismatched Scale button does repair F4. I don't think it repairs the shoulder (or actually collar) problem in V4 - at least I have not found the order in which to do do this. Genesis does not seem to have the smoothing zones, but maybe they are just hidden, I haven't been able to try that out yet

I think both if the essential installers have to be in the same runtime and the add-on needs to be in the program files poser runtime for the importer to work

Or is the fix to the longstanding bug in Poser not actually a proper fix but a way of fudging round the problem that that function in the joint editor adds, but would break the figures in DS where they have functioned this way since a DS 1.something?

Must check the DS4.5 changelogs to see if there's a mention there. The 'mismatched scales' expression is ringing a faint bell, like maybe I read it before without knowing what it was about.

I've already "purchased" it.  Just haven't downloaded it yet.  You can always reset your downloads at DAZ.

But I wonder if they will ever start charging for it.  Remember that "game-changing, industry-shaking announcement"?  DS Pro, Bryce, and Hexagon free for one month.

Going on a year now, and they're still free.

So,,, generally speaking;

the DSON exe goes to Main Poser runtime (default)

The 2 Genesis content files can go to a folder on any drive _OTHER THAN_C:Program Files and get linked via a new directory

 

I personally had problems as I use a virgin pc (never been online) and needed to upgrade C++ (thanks to Willber on Page4 of this thread) I also never needed a separate drive for content before. If I didn't have one, I guess I would just drop Genesis_essentials on Desktop.

Not sure, TBH ... the need for the button and the exact "fix" it applies is beyond me.

Well, my fave release lately was Tyler, but this may run a close second ;). Installed flawlessly (I read all the installations instructions and the Daz forum thread first), and it seems to work that way as well. I haven't had any problems. As to the problems with scaling, I have had those if I choose individial body parts, but my purchase of the Genesis Evolution head and body morphs has put most of those functions in FBMs. After all my discounts and things, it was very cheap and I only paid but a few bucks. LOL. I'm happy so far - thanks Daz and SM. I just don't have the time right now to play with it properly and explore all options, but I do like what I see thus far.

Yep, it took the GND4 skin without a hitch ;). So far, the female at least has taken every hair prop and figure I've thrown at it. I assume tho, that after one starts to scale it is where we might run into some problems, such as a V4 hair on the basic child.

That's nice.  I haven't tried any clothes yet, but thus far, I've been pleased with how easily this figure installed into my Runtime and how well it works in Poser Pro 2012.

Has anyone an idea how to fix the messed up scaling ?

Hate to say it, but with broken single axis scaling and no (direct) access to the moveable joint centers, Genesis is pretty much pointless.

 

PoserPro 2012 SR3, DSON exporter installed.

V4 vs Genesis.

Shin and thigh = Y-Scale-120%,

Foot and toe = Scale -140%

I'd really like to start working with Genesis, but I need a way to change the default proportions.

As Genesis obviously can change from child to male to female via the animateable joint centers, is there a way to access that functionality manually ?

I think for now, it doesn't have ALL the functionality of Genesis in DS, just some of it. Not sure of SR3.1 fixes it or not or if Daz will have to fix it.

It would be REALLY nice if we had all functionality, but frankly I'm surprised they got this far ;).

Well, there is functionality and functionality.

As I create photorealistic custom sculpts that are supposed to look like real people, proper scaling is an absolute necessity.

I don't care about Genesis' mesh layout or default sculpting. It's quite lacking, anyway.(Although I do like M5 a lot better than M4)

I want it because of it's superior rigging and scaleability.

It bends very, very, VERY good in Poser. Best feet, knee and thigh rigging I've ever seen.

But I can't start working on it without a way to change the proportions.

 I don't mind hacking the cr2 or going through Studio 4.5 if necessary. But I do need the same full control over Genesis that I have over all my other meshes.

I was pleasantly susrprised with the free program. You even get a texture for Genesis. It imported very fast into Poser 2012. Just seconds, really. I purchased the V5 pro model suite also while it's on sale, and the jury is still out on that. I do not care for the included characters. They do not look very real. She does bend well, though, and does not seem to have the V4 joint issues that can look so distorted. I am certainly not giving up on V4, though. I have three runtimes filled with just V4 stuff. You are saying V5 will take V4 textures? Or just the Genesis female? If so, that is reallu cool. Let me know. Cheers, Sherrie

Genesis will take the Gen4 textures, but you'll need to use one of the textures from the content to change it to the proper UV. I think the Lana one will change the UV to V4.

Yes, it does. I used that first, then applied GND4's textures. It worked :).

I agree. I'd like to switch to using Genesis in Poser rather than DS, but I need to be able to single-scale various body parts to change the length of the legs, the width of the shoudlers etc.

But I seem to be onto something ....

Haven't quite got to the bottom of this yet, but ... with Genesis loaded, a bodypart selected and the joint editor panel open there's a button on the panewl marked  Scale Zones. Clicking this allows to select other parts whose scaling should be affected by the scaling of that body part, and smooX etc joint parameters appear where there weren't any. Just a few selection clicks in the collars to affect the shldrs fixed the dislocation of the arms at the collar/shldr interface on bending the arms down with Shoulders Wide (actually just xscale of the collars) applied.

It looks like the collar/chest abdomen discontinuity with Shoulders Wide applied will actually need the smooX and SmooY parameters adjuiting after clicking for them to be added ... but it's doable.

Bottom line would appear to be:

Yes, the user can fix the  Genesis in Poser so all the (many) proportion dials wil work.

But the root problem appears to be that the DSON importer is not importing/creating the smoothscaliung joint parameters. One would hope DAZ could do something about that in a timely fashion.

It appears to me the issue shows up only when you try to scale body parts. So far it appears to bend fine otherwise.

Note, though, that I haven't installed the morphs packs yet. But I suspect that the morphs will work fine as long as you don't start scaling body parts excessively.

As you can see, your solution works.

At least I have the head size, arm and leg lenght as well as foot size (more or less) working.

I don't think I want to do DAZ' job and add all the scaling zones as it requires not just creating the zones but also carefully weightmapping them.

But it's enough for now to fool around with Genesis a bit until an official fix is released.

Just playing around with this...

Loaded Genesis, dialled in a child morph, applied an M4 texture, dialled in a pose / expression, then dragged-and-dropped (from the Poser library) some clothing items, hair and a prop onto the figure.

And hey presto! Everything snaps into place, more or less... just a tiny bit of poke-through on the left boot.

Then changed the body shape to a female, loaded a V4 texture, ran the DSON support > Transfer active morphs script. The only glitch was that the sword didn't behave itself: easily sorted by deleting it, selecting the figure and reloading.

So well done DAZ, this seems to work really well!

Not installed V5 yet thats the next challenge.

Hmm.. 

Downloaded and installed (not sure why I have to have the 32bit version even though I'm using Windows 7 64 bit but hey)

Bit of a snag though.  As soon as I load genesis, my library stops functioning.  Can't switch to pose, material, camera etc. - can't open other items in the figures bit either so looks like it's an uninstall again.  Meh - oh well, it's a good idea I guess.

fwiw, I'm running Poser 9 with the latest SR on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

Just install V5 like you installed the Genesis Essentials content. I had no problems with the morphs I added.

BTW, the shaders Daz have supplied are very nice, but also very blue. All the SSS groups are in group 1. If you change the groups on the teeth, inner mouth, gums and toungue you'll lose all that blue around her lips :).

Here's a side-by-side comparison of V4 and Genesis.  The MAT files apply nicely, but the injection morphs obviously DON'T work . . .

 

V4 is on the left, Genesis on the right.  I forgot to apply the right MAT file to the Koz short bob hair, and the EZ Skin texture isn't quite the same, but you get the idea . . .

No. There are no 'morphs for Poser', just Genesis morphs as for DS4 - they are in .dsf format and go into the Genesis 'data' folder, which will happen if you install the same way and place as the Genesis essentials.

The Genesis Essentials come with a bunch of morphs - basic male, female and kid, expression morphs, and a bunch of FBMs like heavy, Bodybuilder etc. If you've got Genesis into Poser with this importer you already have those. Then there are extra morph sets like the Genesis Evolution Body and Head and Expression morphs, creature Body and Head morphs, V4, M4, S4, H4, F4, A4, G4, M3, V3, S3, H3, F3, A3, D3, And the M5 morphs and the V5 morphs and S5 morphs. Because you can mix all morphs, there's no 'Body morphs for V4' and Body morphs for M4 like with the Gen4 figures. So the Bodybuilder base morph, for example, works with M4, or V4, or M5 or V5. You cna mix all the morphs together, so have a part M4, part D3, part M5, part F3 and some Bodybuilder with some Ogre morph or whatever. The provided transfer utility should put any of the morphs you are using into the clothes that the clothes don't have.

Also note that if you e.g. loved David3 but wanted a weight-mapped version, you can dial up just his morph (if you have bought it) and have a figure the shape and size of D3, but with Genesis weight-mapped bending instead of the grotty old gen3 bending.

Also there's the GenX utility for DS by Dimension3D. With it and the appropriate figure packs for it, you can convert any generation 3 or 4 morph, set of morphs or custom character morph to Genesis, then useable with Genesis in Poser - so you can migrate favorite  gen3 or gen4 characters to the Genesis figure to have the character but with the better Genesis bending. (Note you do now need to use the (free) DS4 to use the GenX plugin to convert the v3, M3, V4, M4 etc morphs to Genesis, but the morphs can then be turned into versions that will load into Genesis in Poser).

Are you trying to use V4 injections on V5?  I might be wrong on this, but I think the main reason it doesn't work is because Genesis is much lower poly (about 1/4 the number of polys that V4 has), so it makes sense that the morphs wouldn't work. I am still installing things so don't know yet if V5 has injections of her own.

I suspected that you had to either have V5, or had to use the Ralf Sessler utility and DAZ Studio to convert the Gen X morphs.  David GB has tried to enlighten me, but I have a migraine right now, and the medicine for it makes language more difficult to process.  I'll have to wait until I'm "normal" to understand what he's written.

Not sure what you mean by 'the injection morphs obviously DON'T work'. Obviously V4 injection morphs don't work on Genesis - she's a different figure with a different mesh, just like V3 morphs don't work on V4. Plus she's not set up to use any kind of INJECTION morph, DAZ started with injection morphs with V3, developed them with the ExP system with V4, but they were always a nightmare for support and with the new Genesis system and the DSON files they have dropped the whole notion of injecting morphs. When you install Genesis morphs, they are then just there next time you load a Genesis - there is no injecting anything at all.

Genesis morphs work on Genesis. And as I explained above, with DS4.5 and the GenX plugin you can also convert all generation 3 and generation 4 morphs to Genesis versions as well. (With the GenX plugin, you can convert all V4 and M4 morphs. To convert M3, V3, S3, D3, F3, A3, H3 and G3 morphs rerquires GenX expansion packs). So you can use V4 and M4 morphs on Genesis (and the pose files that set them to create characters), but ONLY by converting the morphs (and pose files) with GenX.

Has anyone tried importing the Poser Genesis to Vue?  I haven't had a chance to play with any of this yet, but I'm curious if I can now use M5 in Poser and then import him into Vue as easily as I do the Gen4 figures.
