Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 04 4:13 pm)
Quote - > Quote - One, newbie question...
...should I model thickness in... for a conforming garment??
Can you explain what you mean by "thickness" please?
I would add finishing edges, such as sleeve edges, but I wouldn't use the Hexagon Surface Modeling>Thickness command. Doing so will create some real issues when you attempt to rig the item. Many times the "inside" polygons intersect the "outside" polygons, and the added polygons are simply not necessary.
I meant the Thickness Command, yes.
By finishing edges, to you mean just turning the ends of the sleeves in on themselves a little?
I guess my main thoughts, in this direction, are about how the hood will have both an inner and an outer surface?
Quote - I'll see how it goes, maybe version 1.0 will be just be good up, with morphs for shaping it in that position... and I can update it over time. I should probably think about the functional aspects in a similar way to how I would developing certain software.
That's meant to say "maybe version 1.0 will be just be hood up", by the way
The spell check on my phone seems determined to scramble everything I try to type... it introduces nonsense words which I'm pretty certain I've never typed. Which suggests to me that Apple are perhaps collating bad typing in a database somewhere and feeding that back to me. Talk about an "infinite number of monkeys". LOL... but, I digress...
On Hoods - Morphs do best for simple lateral motions - ie .. larger/smaller, in/out. They arent so good going round corners. Most hoods you will find have a custom bodypart for the hood (or use head) that can be bent up or down, and a morph to flatten it on the back. Your mileage will vary
For hair fits, just make a bunch of larger/smaller morphs. Anything more eggregious, would have to be done on the hair, and there is a magnet kit for that. (made by me, in fact)
On Thickness - Generally most clothing is modeled with turned edges, so give an edge and an illusion of thickness. Poser does not like doublesided polys, and fully lined clothing items are a complete nuisance when it comes to morphs and pokethrough
On Conversions - Not all clothing items convert well. gloves and shoes usually do badly. You get the best results going from no-breasts to breasts. Going the other way often leavs odd puckers. I use CrossDresser for the most part. You might want to look into the new improved morph tool in sr3 for doing touchups.
Lyrra
Many thanks Lyrra
I'll just have to play around with "hemming" the hood then, by the sounds of it... seeing how Poser is liking it, when turned in to different extents. If the hood stays up, the depth, that the hem needs to turn back in, to form an inner surface, will be less, I guess.
I'll stick with morphs for larger / smaller / in / out etc at first for the hood, I think.
Keep it simpler! Well, will see how it goes once I start with rigging.
I'm imagining, and prepared for finding, that rigging the hood could be a challenging exercise in itself. I'll be challenged just by rigging the rest of the suit, I expect! LOL.
Conversions... I will try WW. But could just revert to, more laboriously, manually re-fitting in a modeller, or with morph brush, if that doesn't work out. I thought WW might help for starters... hopefully.

OK, first......no, don't go there on the thickness thing. The rigging to do that properly is just way over your head right now and will discourage you.
Here are my recommendations for you.
1. Use the extract tool to get a nice edge on the front of the hood. Select the faces on edge of the hood, then use the extract surface tool to create a nice edge. Remember not to smooth too much so that your polygon count isn't too high, but an extracted surface, once smoothed is a really nice finishing touch.
2. Once you create your hood, take it into the Poser cloth room, put a primitive ball on the model's head and collide the hood with the ball and the model. Then export the OBJ back to your modeler. You get some really nice folds, and creating morphs for hair under the hood become infinitely easier.
Quote - Anyway, I did have an opportunity to play with Tyler and I made a head morph for it, but I've been too backlogged to do anything beyond that. Hopefully I can finish it up or maybe talk my partners into finishing the texture that was started and make a character for him.
That's be awesome, Male_M3dia. You guys do very nice character and skin texture work and a Tyler product from yourselves would be a very welcome addition to my runtime, no doubt about it

Cool - thanks Glitterati
I will try exactly that then! Was wondering if it'd be appropriate to try sim'ing it in the cloth room...
...um... another newbie question arises out of that... should I do the cloth room sim first, then extract the edge perhaps? Or should the extracted edge sim okay?
Apologies for going somewhat OT in this thread. Maybe I should start a new project / sketchbook type thread for this now?

Do you edges before simming....just be careful when extracting not to cut the edge of the hood. (If you extract below the current surface, you will cut the edge rather than adding to the surface.) I would suggest you use a "test object" to learn how to use the extract tool. (Geek at Play has some great Hexagon tutorials)
Then, running the sim will almost equate to a smooth operation. You probably want to smooth first, though, because you need a nice poly count to get a good sim.
Quote - Okay - cool...
...and, I may be wrong, but I'm guessing I should extract from the outermost polygon faces on the inside front of the hood?
If that's right... then I'm pretty sure I now know what I'm doing... er, I think. He he
LOL, confusing isn't it? Sorry.
No, you need to move INSIDE the outer edge; the next loop of polygons.
Quote - No, sorry. It's not silly. **When you have a potential market of 3 buyers because of a niche market, it's SILLY to keep doing it.**If 300 users download a freebie, you can SAFELY assume a market of 1%. That's niche; 3 buyers.
Not the least bit silly.
What is silly is to keep doing it.
that is really far off base.
not everyone looks through freestuff. i dont, i usually dont notice it unless its an item thats announced here on the forums. there is also the assumption that free is poor quality/unpolished/buggy/etc - i know this is not the case but a lot of people make this assumption.
my clothing sales reach higher numbers than my freebies.
the Anastasia/Tyler market is large enough that even if 1/10th of the people who own them buy your clothing you are going to be compensated.
provided you are producing quality work, for a new/lesser known merchant it is a sound business strategy to make something for a very undersaturated market than to make yet another V4 camisole and submit it alongside the 2000 other ones already on the market by much better known merchants.
as for GND4, its not niche. the GND4 (and previously GND2) markets are huge and still growing. there are more GND4 products coming within the next couple weeks. i made the product in 2007, it was product of the year, has sold well consistently since then, and how many times has it been at the top of whats hot since 2007? a lot of people have GND4. i dont understand why merchants dont add the base morph to their products. ive offered to send them the product for free if they dont already have it. sure it also benefits me, but itll increase your sales a lot more than just adding another V4++ FBM.
Quote - Don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet (my phone line has gone again, so no internet and not keeping up with stuff too well), but there's a new clothing set for Tyler (and an M4 version) by Esha over at RuntimeDNA, seems to be partly dynamic though.
I have to ask, how did you know I just zeroed the balance on my CC?

Look okay? I haven't gone technically awry in any blatantly obvious fashion have I? LOL...
Not done any Poser cloth sim'ing yet...
I think I figured out what I was meant to be doing with the hems... but goodness knows. I will take a closer, fresh look at some items in my runtime methinks.
Would definitely like to make a similar, matching outfit for Tyler I reckon... not sure if I'll be able to convert / re-use this mesh though, having got a bit further with it.
I suspect it'll maybe be better waiting for Lyrra's Tyler dev kit and starting afresh.
I will see how it goes... hopefully, I can re-use this mesh for a Miki4 version at least.
I really like Tyler, hope someone gets into making some everyday clothing for him, shirts, jeans, shoes. Maybe a casual suit, maybe even a dress suit would be nice. Some decent hair styles would be nice, maybe I can move a couple of them with the morph tool enough to look good. His face has character, he bends well for what I have in mind. Hard finding clothing for any of them that will look right for the 1950 - 60's era anyhow.

Aren't there a few of those things here already? Don't know if they were the type you were looking for, but I'm sure there was a suit of some kind.
I'm hoping (or dreading - lol!) Xurge will do versions of his Ranger and Prince outfits for Tyler. Although it irritates me to buy the same outfit again for a different figure, without an XD licence I'm a bit stuck.
I might try making myself a dynamic suit for Tyler. I don't normally use everyday type clothing, but it might be interesting to try.....

Here's the link for the Tyler stuff in the store:

Business suit looks good, doesn't say anything about whether shoes are included.
But, my inner child stole my credit card and ran to xheli.com, waiting to see how much damage that did to my available spending money. (The ony logical answer is "Too much".)
The suit is on the list anyhow, as are the jeans and tee shirt. Now, just waiting to see what the damage I did will cost to get past.

Okay. Having bought here before, now comes the big question. Checked out, three items, and absolutely no clue where to go to download. Is there such a place? No email confirmation, draw a blank, nothing shows up anywhere to say the products are available.
Rendo, PUT A DAMNED DOWNLOAD ORDER ICON SOMEWHERE!

Also, the Tyler Business Suit does come with shoes. Some nice loafers in Brown and Black.

No email yet, bumbled around long enough to find it, but with every site that sells anything, each one has it's own incomprehensible place to download, and we're supposed to remember them all?
Saw the shoes, doesn't show in the thumbs, have to click on them to see it. Bought it. Also the jeanz etc. TIme I got play for a while. Thinking a similar style for Anastasia and Miki would be nice, something other than yet another set of ankle busters.

Actually, I buy almost nothing from DAZ, very little from RDNA (just not my style for most of their content) and most here, so I don't find it too hard to remember. LOL!
You'll get use to it.
In my Poser2012, the png thumbnails for the entire set show up fine. Win64bit.........you?

The thumbs in the store show up fine, just cropped and the shoes got cropped out of the thumb. Click on it, and there they are. And unlike some others I've had, I don't have to hide the figure toes. Very nice, suit is very nice. Haven't noticed any poke through, but didn't really play with it that much. Tried the basics and the shirt and jeanz enough to know they're there, more play time later.
And still no email.

I'd contact the store, you should have received it by now.
already got the downloads, so, not a factor anymore. And it may be I forgot to change something when I went to Uverse, changed my user name, but I think I updated my email, have to check.

That could be it. Normally, I get the Renderosity email with the link to download before I get the email from Paypal.
an alarming amount of rendo customers do not have a valid/up-to-date email.
when i send a customer update notification my inbox gets nuked with 'undeliverable' messages.... then there are all these crazy spam filters that require that people go through a multi-step pre-approval process rolleyes
please keep your contact email up-to-date folks :)
Attached Link: Ryan New Eyes
The strange Ryan's eye shape correction morph is uploaded on ShareCGYou just have to apply the pose that will load the morph on your character via a pmd file
It is not necessary to have PMD enabled the morph will still load fine on your character
You can resave your character on the library or use the pose every time you like

Knowing me, as I know myself, I'll probably start on at least one or two other pieces of clothing in tandem with this "onesie" idea too... now that I've got the dev kit to play with. So everything'll take longer. He he.
