I hope Doc is aware of this vacation and all the necessary forms have been completed (in triplicate) and countersigned by the good Doctor himself.

Hmm, I have received no vacation applications. Maybe it was sent to the Ministry of 3D instead.

@John: The rules are meant to be broken ;)

@FCMDesigns: I love the harem render! I prefer the champs, ice and glasses in the other one though :)

I must try the Vascularity product soon, it's in my runtime.

Been playing with the Vascularity product and using normal maps instead of displacement.

Oh, yeah!  Love that look in the skin.  Cool.

What Vascularity product? I've seen this mentioned elsewhere. I'm very interested in vascularity.

Thanks!

This is the one I have, it needs to be manually applied using a graphics application such as Photoshop - http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=96111&vendor=Zev0

There is also one especially for use in DS - http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/vascularity-for-daz/96152

Thanks for answering. I notice that the products specify "for M4 and V4." Have you ever tried using it (or them, the DS version, Poser version, merchant resource) with M5, V5, or Genesis? I know you can usually use an M4 or V4 texture, but how closely does it match up on a Genesis figure?

Reggie68 ( ) posted Sat, 29 December 2012 at 3:02 PM

Don't use V5 or genesis.

For me, V4 with the Perfect V4 morphs & Glute Shaping morphs looks better.

I would think it would work fine, at least that is my plan to use it on genesis once I get it since that is the figure I use more than any other.

Hi all.. been taking a bit of a hiatus from all rendering the last couple of weeks.  Am between quarters at school and just been enjoying some downtime spent with the wife and kiddos.  Looking forward to next quarters classes.. 2nd yr algebra, architectural drafting 1(pencil) and CAD1 (autocad).  Finally getting the hang of blacksmith 3d.  Have been doing a bit of texture work with it that I'm a helluva lot more satisfied than with my previous photoshop-only attempts.  Here's the first of what I would consider a finished product.  Working on several textures, transparencies and patterns for OOT's Million Pearls Outfit.

Enjoy.  Have a happy new years everyone.  Will see you all in 2013.

I was digging around looking for the IOR of blood and came across this (never did find a blood setting).  http://www.pixelandpoly.com/ior.html#B

It looks like a lot of these are already pre-set in Reality, but I didn't go line by line so there may be some new ones that are useful.

2 questions.  How would I add a water plane, and have it so im looking up through the water?  I tried, had the camera under the water, the model was half and half, but it just mirrored the bottom part, which was under the water.

Can I have it so the camera is half inside the water, and half outside, so that the bottom half of the camera is distorted by water?

Somewhat like that, but I would also want the top to be scene, but obscured by the water.  So you can see somewhat up above, but somewhat foggy...

Thank you for the link, I will ask them.

I would not jump to those conclusions. It can simply be that people didn't see the question or that they didn't know what you meant.

Tears are just water, I would set them to be of water material and be perefctly clear.

Hope this helps.

Oh, I already let it run for 17hrs and had to readjust the materials.

Here it is, and it is rendering more.

Pret-a-3D ( ) posted Mon, 31 December 2012 at 5:49 PM

Quote -   Oh, I already let it run for 17hrs and had to readjust the materials.

The reason why this is taking so long is simply that you don't have enough light in the scene. The rendering will not work with just the fire and the Christmas tree lights. That is an impossibility with photography and so it is for Lux. If you were using a camera you would get a very grainy picture. That's exactly what you get with Lux, for the same reason.

When setting a scene you need to think like a photographer. Cameras don't see in the dark as the human eye. That's why all low-light scenes are always completemented by quite a bit of additional lights that are not seen in the frame. Every movie is shot in that way and almost all professional photos are shot like that. You could set the exposure to be much higher, possibly ISO 1000, shutter at 1/2 second and iris to f2.0, but that will probably overexpose the visible lights.

That scene is simply set in a way that it will not render. You need to work at it as you would if you were using a camera.

A possible solution is to place a rather large mesh light at the top and set it to be on a separate light group. In that way you will be able to adjust it dynamically in Lux. Set the gain to 0.5 and try again. It should clear considerably in a matter of minutes.

Remember that you cannot "shoot" a scene like that with practical lights alone, it need to be staged as a photo. Once you start using that approach the your rendering time will be a much more acceptable.

Hope this helps.

I do have a soft box in the scene that is facing the same way as the camera.  Should I increase that more?

Love the plugin.

Definetely. From what I can see from the image the softbox is either turned off or blocked by something. With images like this a mesh light is all that you need, the softbox is not going to give you any advantage. The whole deal is that the meshlight is providing the ambient light that is perceived by the human eye but that cannot be detected by a camera. As the great cinematographer George Spiro Dibie likes to say: "it has to be felt, not seen"

Also, lights that come from the same direction of the camera are usually not very flattering. Top lights tend to give you better results.

Cheers.

Should I remove the soft box completly, and have the mesh light on the ceiling?
