minotauro21 ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2013 at 12:07 PM · edited Fri, 26 July 2024 at 2:08 PM

I want to do some special clothes for V4 but i have no clue what software to use, i only use Daz Studio Pro but i cant find the creator content toolkit and support in Daz says that it "must" be there, so i want to do it in a different software i tried marvelous designer but it only creates the obj file not the cr2 and im lost!. He he, any help would be great. Regards.

Try using google for some tutorials on making clothing.

The content creator toolkit is made of different tools to create content, it is not just one thing.

The joint editor and polygon group editor are two of the tools that fall under the group of "Content Creator Tools".  You would need to use those on the imported OBJ to make groups and bones for rigging (conforming).

The Tools are a collection of

  • Weight-Map Brush
  • Transfer Utility
  • Polygon Group Editor
  • Figure Setup (Skeleton Setup)
  • Joint Editor
  • Property Editor
  • ExP Exporter
  • ERC Freeze
  • Morph Loader Pro
  • Poser Format Exporter

At the beginning, you said you tried Marvelous Designer to create the OBJ file.
Once you have the OBJ, you only need to rig it if you want to do conforming clothes.

You also mentioned that you want a CR2 file.  That is a Poser format for rigged figures, both human and clothing.

In Poser you can create CR2 clothing with a handy tool from PhilC called OBJCR2.

http://philc.net/OBJ2CR2_page1.php

Also, Poser has advantage of being able to have dynamic clothing that does not require rigging

What is being so special about this dress that you can't do by retexturing or other modifying existing clothing?

Do you having preliminary sketches available?

I was totally lost no matter how many tutors I read or videos I wanted on modeling. Blender was too much to even start to do anything with and hexagon work but was very slow going. I am not using Marvelous Designer and while I still very new at this. I at least understand it. You might want some video tutors at Marvelous Designer to see if you understand it.

Just my 2 cents

to creat clothes you need:

  1. a  3d modeling program of your choice -that you create the obj in scaled to the model in a zero pose

  2. the obj then needs to be uvmapped either in the modeler or in uvmapper program

  3. that obj then needs to be imported into ds and rigged to the model it i was created for.

  4. it then needs saved as either a duf file for ds or saved as a cr2 file

5.  you then need to take the saved uvmap and create a texture by painting it in a program of your choice.

  1. then finally if you wish to give it out to others it needs to be packaged in either a ds file format or a poser runtime format.

these are just the basics , you will need to get an learn at least 4 programs in order to create a clothes, hair, prop item of your own.

have fun learning .

Modeling in 3D has been one of the roughest pursuits I have ever...er...pursued but keep with it and I suggest you give blender another try (I did and my only regret is I did not stick with it the first time)

This site has some very well written tutorials that explain what to do and why your doing it for each step.

The difference between any posing program and a modeling program is astounding so whatever software you choose prepare for a challenge. The destination means very littlewithout the journey you take to get there.

@ Sicklysweetie

I'm using Blender, Studio, and Photoshop

what's the 4th program I need?

heddheld ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2013 at 2:30 AM

once you start on blender ;-) you dont need any other programs

SickenlySweete ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2013 at 5:41 PM

klown the fourth would be a uvmapper program, but most modelers have one if you learn to use it.

It is trivial design problem.  You could turn almost any full length dress to this.

I used Morphing Fantasy Dress ( a good all purpose design) and spent maybe 10 minutes on doing an Opacity map in GIMP

You should be able to do this using any 2D editor program

Ok, I sorta use UVMapper Classic, the free one, it's good but it does not have an undo or some other key features. I have not tried the UVMapper in Blender, I'm still wraping my head around modeling.

Are these the name of the tools or the type of tools you use. I'm having trouble with grouping and sort of looking around to see if there are any good tools to use.
