Subject: make older kids and teens by mixing K4 with M4 or V4 and clothes fit too!

colorcurvature ( ) posted Sat, 04 May 2013 at 1:32 AM

Thanks for your feedback :). I just saw that the character you are referring to is available at sharecg. I'll have a look at it and see what can be done to improve the cloth fitting.

The clothes fit perfeclty.  I couldn't be happier with this script.

So, I saw this when it arrived into the marketplace but I balked with the limitations. How would you rate things in regard to these points in the readme:

1.3 Other bonus: You may also run it on Victoria 4. She doesnt work as good as Michael 4

2.1 The morphed figures will not bend 100% perfectly. I think they perform very well in most situations,
but sometimes you might need to use the poser morph brush to fix local distortions.

2.2 The quality of the cloth conversion process varies with the cloth.
Pokes or distortions might occur

What I see in the renders above it very satisfying, but some of the pictures are in the standard pose, so no pokethrough is too likely there. I can use magnets and (still learning) the morph tool, but if it's too severe, then I don't know how useful it would be.

I have occassionally wished there was a teen that took gen 4 textures, so this would be really helpful.

basicwiz ( ) posted Sun, 05 May 2013 at 12:08 PM · edited Sun, 05 May 2013 at 12:08 PM

Performance with V4 -

I have run into no problems. At some of the mid settings, I think the breasts are a bit too developed, but a little dialing back on the "breast" morph fixes that. This DOES NOT work right with V4WM because of the extra bones in the WM version, but to me, it's no biggie.

Bending -

This only asserts itself with extreme poses. Again, a non-issue for me. Also, since one will probably use young teens clothed, the clothing hides minor imperfections.

Cloth Conversion -

Occurs very rarely, and the smooth brush in the morph brush suite fixes any imperfections in a few seconds.

I guarantee you there are less issues with this package than with trying to run the Daz Young Teens via DSON.

colorcurvature ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2013 at 2:14 PM

The bends need a bit of smooth morph brush when arms are way up or legs are posed 90 degree sideside or such, and the morph to k4 is dialed strongly.

However, one can trick the program and use it to morph k4 to m4, and I think, then there should be almost no near-k4 issues.

So far I didnt receive any hate mail for bad bending (but also not many product reviews either ;)  I just wanted to point out that there are limits. But I think with a bit of smoothing its good.

If you like, I can send you the program shareware-like and you can decide if its good enough or not.

mamba-negra ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2013 at 8:20 PM

Well, ATM I don't have a need for a younger character. But, this sounds like a really good solution for when I do.

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2013 at 8:22 PM

You know if you just dial in a tiny bit of K4 it can make your V4 look like she is in her 20s rather than in her 30s with a twenty year old face, which is the way they tend to look unaltered.  And a little bit of K4 in the mix hardly seems to affect bending adversely at all. I have about 0.36 dialed into my character and that is great for an 18 yr old girl.

Love esther

i yet have to find out if the upcoming cloth fit room will work with the mix figures. i must admit I havn't tried it out during beta because of time shortage. but i have big hopes ;)

it possibly can create just a FBM right? then one could disconnect the morph my script created with the hierarchy editor and instead slave a fit-room created or manually sculpted morph instead.

but maybe,  depending on the subdivision capabilities, a high-res genesis is now morphable?

No, you can't morph a subdivided mesh and expect it to be a morph target of the base. You can make a normal or displacement map from that information.

You have that subdivision script that you let me play with a while back, but it had problems with JCMs, as you might recall.  Also, that script only works with sphere joints because it doesn't subdivide the weightmaps.  I did try it on an exported Genesis but the results of bending were scary indeed.  I didn't look at how it morphed...it might still be hanging around my runtime somewhere...

Ahh, I do still have it.  This is a very old Studio 4.0 export, from early November 2011, so I don't know if the discontinuity of the hip is a result of the script or the export, but here it is with the Real World Female morph applied at 1.0.

If you can subdivide the weightmaps it would likely work fine.  Of course, would it render better than simply using Poser's smoothing?

Yes, JCM problems, because of the body part seams. Morph Deltas are unsteady there. This is why subdividing them creates problems. One could make new ones, of course. Possibly now, with SR 3.1, even automatically. But the subdivided DAZ4 are extremly heavy. They consume hundrets of megabytes, and preview gets extremly slow, so its not really fun to work with those.

Here's a weight mapped Stephanie 3 I made by running the script on JoePublic's David 3 WM.  Stangely, the FBM is absent from the head, so it's a homely girl.  The knees are a bit funny, but the thigh bend is ***much*** improroved over standard S3...

EDIT; actually it does apply to the head, but the dial just isn't visible; I gues he/she just needs some makup

Here's weight mapped Laura 3 by the same method. She needed to be translated in y because the pose put her nearly up to her knees into the ground In this case the inside of the knee looks good, but the back needs some work.

Is is possible to get this morphed WM rig into L3?

EDIT DOH!  I just realised I used a beta version of the script; will try again with the current version... 😊

Hiro might itself be a morph. The scripts work on the core geometry of the figure. You might have to reduce the Hiro morph accordingly when using the parameter.

WandW ( ) posted Sat, 11 May 2013 at 8:57 PM

Aren't these all morphs of the Gen 3 Unimesh?  😉

Hiro 3 is a stand-alone figure with his own rig, unlike Hiro 4.

I tried doing a copy joint zones from the morphed WM D3/L3 to a stock L3, but it transfered the unmorphed rig with grotesque results.  Is there any way to capture the joint centers of the morphed figure, short of copying them down by hand from the joint editor?

The script was fine Hannes, but Hiro just didn't work as well as the ladies as his knees, ankles and elbows aren't as good.

M3, V3, H3 and A3 base figures are still free here...

http://download.cnet.com/Poser-DAZStudio-3D-Models-Pack/3000-6677_4-10579249.html

I'm playing with this using JP's D3-WM as a starting point to try to get some more WM Gen 3 figures. Laura and Stephanie 3 morphs of D3-WM worked pretty well but need the weight maps tweaked in the knee.  If I could get the rig of the morphed figure back into L3 or S3 it would be a bit less complicated; is there a script somewhere that would copy the joint centers of the morphed figure to a new figure?  The Setup Room and Copy Joint Zones copy the rig of the zeroed figure...

"Michael 4", and run the script and weight map the bulges.  When you dial in the morph you end up with a D3 wth the lady's shape and joint centers, but it's still D3, so it can't wear their clothes without conversion...

Myself, I think they're not the same mesh, and Penny's mesh is a mess, period.

I seem to remember that to get to them, you had to go through SM, I think there was a link to the legacy figures.  I know all of the P4 and P5 were in one pack.  But that was a few years ago, it might have changed, and you did have to have serial numbers of a higher version to get them.

colorcurvature ( ) posted Wed, 22 May 2013 at 3:20 PM

@wayneout: Poser 9 doesnt work because the python functions that convert a figure to weightmap are blocked. In theory, one could provide the RTE-encoded  straight-forward--weightmapped M4/V4 like joe did to share his gen3 weightmapped figures. but that is a huge file, I have no experience with this process, and the programs would need to be reworked and the whole thing retested. Too many obstacles I'm afraid.

WandW ( ) posted Wed, 22 May 2013 at 8:09 PM

It's actually not that large of a file.  The compressed M4K4 crz is only 5.6MB.  It would certainly need to be RTE encoded against K4, and likely need the resulting file encoded againsst M4.  It woud be a bit of work to decode, but it would then be available to Poser 9 and 10 users...
