Hivewire3D, once it opens, will have the plant and bird market pretty well sewn up.

I'm still on PP2012/Vue 10 workflow, and it works well with V4WM.  And Reality 3 for Poser.

That was a cool list, AetherDream.  I'm more a texture artist these days.  I've only dabbled in modeling, modeled the first Yuletide Treasure Tree.  Will Dupre modeled most of the newer one we put out, based on my original.  I normally collaborate and texture.  I hope I'm not being confused with someone else whose name starts with M, someone whose work I adore.  :)

I have big plans for Dawn in the hopefully near future.  However, right now, I'm wrapping my brain around a program that definitely does not work with my brainwaves, but it's the only program that does what it does, so I have no choice, if I want its benefits.  I WISH there was another program that did the same kind of things in a different way that worked better with how I think. The program I used to 3D paint in is just too old and no longer supported or upgraded.  So, I'm venturing out.  I think there being both Poser and DS available to us for posing and arranging our figures is a terrific thing.  The split in the market saddened and discouraged me.  I'm glad for the Dawn.

Dawn has terrific joint work.  She has native rigging in both Poser9+ and DS 4.5+.  She is beautifully modeled.  She is the dawn lighting both Poser and DS equally.

First of all, not  everyone has PP2014. The Fitting Room is only available in that version.

People with P9PP2012P10 don't have that option, so would need a dev rig.

All the best.

Another good point as I'm a Mac user (have been since the the SE30, and Apple II before that)

That brings up yet another point:  how will installers for PC/Mac be handled?

I have no problem with .zip files as I install all my non-Daz content manually anyway, but there are many out there (on Macs) that may not know how to install content manually. I see this issue all the time on the forums here at Rendo.

For me, and maybe I need more time with it,  I dont really find that fitting room gives exactly production quality results.  Its pretty good but even if I get the fit perfect, the rig transfer still needs a lot of clean up for my standards (perhaps my standards are off and that is why I have never released any of the projects I have worked on)

In short, though I find that the fitting room can make an item useable from one figure to another, I would never buy an item for a figure I'm not using with the aim of converting it in the fitting room for use on a different figure.   I just dont think it gets to as high a quality stnadard as the original, nor the quality standard that I expect in order to spend  money on an item.

Quote - There is something I am not really clear about.

In PP2014 we have the new fitting room and the copy morphs and copy joints option - all ready to go to create a new outfit

Why go through all the hoops to get the clothing prepared for Poser if all you need to do is load clothing, Enter fitting room, press create figure, select the morphs you want and press OK?

Or am I missing something? Dawn should have the weightmaps and the morphs, the clothing is designed around Dawn - so no real fitting needed and the setup takes the groups from the Dawn figure.

Can anyone from HiveWire, or CA's which have dealt with this, answer?

On a completely different tangent...  It is so nice to see people collaborating and discussing a new figure without the near bloodshed that seems to have become so much of a part of threads in the last couple of years...

I'm satisfied, but still learning, on the modelling front, struggling but think I can meet the challenge on the rigging front but .. texturing...  oh my...

Perhaps if I can arrange collaboration I'll be able to get some things to market!

Quote - Okay, so I decided to prepare a list of the artists who are either involved directly with the project at HiveWire3D or who have indicated somewhere in this very long thread that they would be willing to support Dawn in their stores.

I am not a spokesperson for the creators, so  I apologize ahead of time if I get any details wrong or if I have left anyone off this list. Please correct me if I did. I just thought it might be helpful to see the support in a list as the thing that scares people off of new characters seems to be the fear of lack of support.

Also, since this thread is so long that it is easy to miss someone. I have gone through the thread 3 times combing for names to add to the list and found someone I had not seen the first time around, so it would be easy for someone just now entering the discussion to see just how well supported this character is. I should also mention that there is no order in this list and placement on the list in now way reflects level of expertise or level of support from the artist. I did however, try to put the HiveWire3D founational team at the top of the list.

I will try to update it in about ten pages with additions or corrections!

I hope that someone who has actually worked with Dawn can answer it since I have no idea about the actual rigging. The rigging which is copied does not need to be Dawn, it could be a similar item already rigged for that figure. Small adjustments have to made  for the rigging whatever method you use.

I really do not see why it cannot be done since it works for Roxie, Miki and other figures which are weightmapped. Just want a confirmation that it can be done this way

I'm convinced that evilinnocence and Philc will have supports for their conversion programs, once Dawn has been released. Perhaps they are allready working on it, but that is pure speculation.

I really hope that Dawn will have the potential to become the new V4. I remember the excitement about the development of Antonia with the longest thread on Renderosity ever, but at the end she just faded way as a niche figure. Which was really a pity for all the enthousiast developers who had worked on her.

Perhaps someone can make a beautiful banner to make other people aware of her!

Hi all!,

I'm awake, wait did I even sleep?

Ah nevermind, lets talk Dawn...looking through the several new pages of posts, I see some technical questions I can answer. I'll let others at HiveWire 3D address the ones I can't, lol.

Morph capabilities: In Poser we use the binary morph injection native to Poser. (.pmd file) it is very stable and allows you to inject channels that do not already exist in a figure. So no need for empty channels. Nerd3d has a great tutorial that he did for Poser6 when the stability was improved. Go here to learn more!

http://nerd3d.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=13

In DAZ Studio, we take advantage of the .duf/.dsf files and the independent morph files created by version 4.5. So people who love the methods used in current DAZ Studio figures will be happy to see it available in Dawn.

Clothing Fits: Yes, PP2014 fitting room tools can be used to create fits for Dawn. (We do have a basic suit mesh as a Resource Kit that is part of the base, and we will have a Dev rig for those that have 9/10 or PP2012.)

Installers: HiveWire 3d will NOT be using installers for content. they will be .zip files

I know I didnt get every tech question answered but know we are, as some have said, "watching" and we will continue to try and answer questions and post teasers...

More to come!   :D

I'm sorry, Laurie, but I don't think this logic is sound.  I know lots and lots of Poser users who simply refuse to do business with DAZ, therefore didn't follow their favorite vendors at all.

...as long as the only way to get their products were through DAZ...

I think you didn't really follow the logic.  She meant follow them to the new store.  Your own post would indicate that you'd be OK with buying from Ken at a different store.  That is what she was saying.

Some new info from the Facebook page:

"More insight into our approach: All of us at HiveWire 3D have committed to making our product and our website accessible to as many folks as we can. We don't want folks to be embarrassed to access our site at work, or if their kids happen to look over their shoulder. We also plan to approach the educational market down the road and want to be aligned with that industry as best we can, too.

To that end, we will not be releasing any genital products as part of what is sold for Dawn at HiveWire3D.com. This includes skin maps with genital details, morphs, or any items like that and will extend to what type of imagery will be allowed within our monthly and Hall of Fame galleries. We will leave that to other marketplaces to make available.

We hope that you can understand and appreciate our view on this as it's very important to us. Thank you."

There is some small clean up of the CR2, I believe, that Paul said needs to be done, but I'll let him explain that better once he resurfaces.

Zips have been replacing installers at Daz for quite a while now. The DIM uses Zips, you don't have to use the DIM at all, or you can just use it to download the Zips or you can use it to download them and then install them its up to the user.

You can create or apply  a morph target in Poser and then save the Cr2 using using Binary Morphs enabled, and then for distribution load up the resulting pmd file via a pose file to apply the morph; no editing required.  Nerd's tutorial gives the specifics...

So no need for empty channels. Nerd3d has a great tutorial that he did for Poser6 when the stability was improved."

Since I can not edit pmd files I probably will interact with dawn only as a user.  Still want to see what she can do

What kind of edits do you wish to do? Pmds dont prevent you from customizing things.

Quote - any chance you can make dawn import into vue?

I actually just barely reached out to Nicholas and Dave over at e-on to give them the heads up about our little project.

We will be reliant on the tools and utilities that others have developed, and I don't know of anyone that has tried yet, but it's definitely something we have on our radar, yes.

Oh, DAZ3D is using zips now, too.  Finally!  It just took them forever to get to this point.

Dana

That's good to hear. The lasted ones I purchased all used custom installers. Not a big deal really for me. I prefer the .zip files though!

The main thing I need from Dawn is an OBJ in the Geometries folder.

Easier to model stuff if I can just import her obj into Silo.

All the best.

That's good! So long as she doesn't explode in Vue. That was well freaky with the original V4! :scared:

Quote - That brings up yet another point:  how will installers for PC/Mac be handled? I have no problem with .zip files as I install all my non-Daz content manually anyway, but there are many out there (on Macs) that may not know how to install content manually. I see this issue all the time on the forums here at Rendo.

Animajik, shoot me an email real quick, ok?

To answer the question, we will be providing all of our products as ZIP files. We are working up a simple tutorial to help walk MAC users through this that are not familiar.

(Btw, I'm not ignoring the other questions, just still collecting answers. :) )

Sorry for any cross posting I may have done with Paul, still trying to catch up on the thread.

Quote - will Dawn appear with a free hair for the base?

Yes, the Dawn base product will include:

  • Dawn Base figure

  • Complete Skin Maps

  • Hairstyle

  • 10 basic poses

  • String bikini

  • Skin Map / Texture Resource Kit

  • Clothing Developer Resource Kit

  • Developer Rig

  • Original UV's

I think that covers it. oh, and remember, it'll be free for time when we first release her.

Quote - That was a cool list, AetherDream.

Hi Mab, I will adjust that on my  list. I am also a texture person. I just have not gotten the hang of modeling despite purchasing zBrush, Hexagon, and Silo 2. I tried Blender but that was actually even harder for me than zbrush. But is is always fun if somewhat daunting to learn a new program. I remember when I first got photoshop, I thought I would never be able to learn it, but it was quite an adventure. I hope you learn your program. I can't wait to see what you come up with for Dawn.

We don't have one currently, but it's on our list, yes.

The .zip file is fine with me, as I always install my files manually anyway - there are others that don't quite understand the file system, so the usually run into probles.   Zip files on a PC have the advantage since content is merged witht he folder the zip is pointer at, on the Mac, it doesn't work this way, but there are utilities for the Mac that help with this.  ("Ditto" for one)

I just shot you  a site mail with my real email address.

or you can use: buck@fatcatalley.com (which forwards to me)
