Example of Material zones on my V4 Pixie, as you can see, it's easy to figure out second skins type of clothes by seeing this. Stockings, Tops, shorts, full suits etc.

Nudity tag has been added.

A quick example of what you can do with just body material zones. I'm hoping to do the same with Dawn.

Can somebody start a Stitch Witch thread I am very familiar with Photoshop and Illustrator and you just cannot do what Stitch Witch can in those programs. But the documentation is a little scanty especially about the grid. So let us start a new thread..

I think I'm one of the very few who requested a refund for Stitch Witch,  Just wasn't overly thrilled with it.  Although I was told it was updated or something.

Mods- can we get the Stitch witch stuff broken into a new thread, it does de-rail this one which is already quite long to follow.

I'm also curious about palm bending...pinky finger to thumb.  This comes up a lot when creating pose sets...that, and tolerance of movement of the shoulders in extreme positions which bring the shoulders and arms inward.  In both the pinky/thumb and shoulder inward bend, it's as if the core needs some way of being as if hinged, the way the hand appears naturally when cupped inward.  This action/appearance may not be possible in a model, but just thought I'd ask, as they are the two problem areas I encounter most often.

Things are looking great by the way.  If Dawn's weight-mapped movement is as good or better than Roxie's, it will be wonderful.  Looking forward to the release.

I'd wager many have, particularly Apollo, who did get quite a bit of commercial support and is, to me, still a fabulous figure (and still available for free, by the way)

And a tip-of-me-hat to a) all the HiveWire folks who are keeping us informed of progress, and to b) Paganeagle2001 for the update work throughout the thread.

Good vibes here.  It's been quite positive.  Cool.

Oh my...look at that hand...just what I wanted...this is wonderful.

The shoulder thing...I ran into it this morning, creating an army pose of M4 on the ground, belly down, firing a rifle...but in order to position the hands correctly on the gun, it requires extreme pulling of the shoulders inward...which is the same type of problem as balling up the hand.  The differences in a weight-mapped figure may solve this particular problem.

Again, the hand looks wonderful...thank you so much for posting the pics!

:)

Question: Should the palm area be more square? It looks a bit tall but it might be the render angle.

I am absolutely fascinated by the stuff etujedi posted recently. The hands! Awesome!

I must admit I am rarely happy with the hands when posing people in my scenes. They should be so expressive and yet - every time I try to make some natural pose like petting a kitten, it looks if the hand is trying to swat a fly on the head of poor animal.

Eventually we might have dynamic collision, dynamic deformers and automatic muscle tension morphs, but until that time Dawn's hands are the best I have seen. Itching to try them. :)

Okay, I have another question about Dawn. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that she'd be Mimic compatable. I was wondering if A) She'll also work in Poser 10s Talk Designer and B) Will there be viseme files included? Thanks.

Jaager ( ) posted Fri, 28 June 2013 at 12:56 AM

The hands look good.  The figure looks as though it has the potential to be a rallying point.  To be a real success, it will probably need to have a heavy contribution from free stuff providers.  Does Hive3D intend to host free content for its figures?  If so, Will it be links or site hosting?

As an example of what could be offered:

When fingers bend- the knuckle are supposed to pop up. No doubt- this could be done with a JCM.  An ancillary question: could this also be done using a displacement map with its strength tied to the joint bend ?  A joint controlled texture?

Seliah ( ) posted Fri, 28 June 2013 at 1:27 AM

Okay, I absolutely LOVE what I'm seeing here. And honestly, I can't wait to get ahold of her and start doing some  serious figure support here. (provided there are morphs released for her...)

I like her shape. I love the fact that shes not a six foot, too-skinny, tall-torso'd, runway model or barbie doll. I like the fact that she has a little meat on her bones, and her overall shape is excellent. I LOVE the flexibility on her hands! I can't wait for the release. I want to play with her!!

I only have ONE request...

If it is at ALL possible.. can we AVOID setting hard limits?

I frequently spin dials well above and below 1.000 and -1.000, and something Daz started doing with the Gen4's that infuriates me is making those dials 'locked' at certain values. It makes character creation insanely difficult - especially if they "hard" lock those values such that even  editing the parameter dial value won't allow you to spin them past those points.

That is great to hear Paganeagle, as an ex-Field Trial manager I always wished that the testers would take that approach.  As good as she is Dawn is bound to have a few issues and any not found during testing will soon be found when she gets out into the wider community.  Of course the testers will not find everything but she deserves a good start.  How often have some of us tried to use something and found it had basic problems and we are left asking "how did this get through testing and not have this picked up?"

Dawn looks like a stunning figure so I hope the testers make sure she has a stunning launch.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

SatiraCapriccio ( ) posted Fri, 28 June 2013 at 5:43 AM

Yeah.  I hate those hard limits.  There are times when 1.000 or -1.000 just doesn't do it, and you need a value more or less.

I also hate having the scale parameters hidden.  First thing I always have to do is to unhide them.

I'm becoming more and more a sad puppy Hivewire didn't need any more Dawn testers :(  Stiff upper lip and all that, but ... it sure is trembling with each teaser we get.

What happens when Dawn cups her right shoulder with her left hand.  We all know what happens if V4 tries that.

Genesis limits prevent her from doing so.  She can touch her right shoulder with the tips of her left fingers in DS.  She can't do any better in Poser, and her elbow joint crumples when attempting to do so.

Can Dawn pledge allegience?

Genesis can, but her shoulder crumples in DS and both shoulder and elbow crumple in Poser.

Roxie is able to pledge allegience better than either Genesis and V4. My Roxie Donor (V4 scaled and posed to match Roxie, all zones merged to weight map) looks better in the pose than Roxie (Roxie's elbow bulges oddly).

Roxie is also able to stand with her arms straight down at her sides (the palm of her hand rests on the side of her thigh).  Roxie donor and V4 WM can too, V4's shoulder needs corrected, and Genesis's shoulder crumbles dreadfully.

How about that pose so common in period pieces where a man rests the back of his left hand on the small of his back.  I've tried and tried to replicate that with M4 and the results are really disappointing.

Often problems are found and reported by the testers but aren't deemed important enough to fix before release.  I encountered that so many times when beta testing MMORPGs.

I also encountered the same resistance when problems were reported while testing a certain application when I was dressed all in black.  Needless to say ... everything reported and not fixed while testing that application resulted in massive customer complaints in the forums along with accusations the testers needed to be replaced.  A lot of stuff does get fixed before release, but the closer to release it gets, the more likely a problem will be shelved until after release.

I like how Hivewire is so receptive to our suggestions.  Makes me wonder how that other place got so far away from valuing customer feedback.  How a company handles customer dissatisfaction ... even if it's deemed to be in the minority because the vast number of customers never frequent forums (or only read and don't post).  Thing is ... while forum's may be frequented by a small segment of the customer population, they ARE a cross section of the customer population, and if a large number of the posters are unhappy, so too are a large number of the customers who are silent.

I know where you are coming from with that comment.  The number of times an issues of software has passed a 'gate' when it should have failed just because some sales guy had promised a feature on a set date.  Testers and Field Trial techs then took the blame while the sales guy took his cruise on the strength of the sale.

Not having a go at sales reps as a whole but it happened more than once.

Difference here appears to be that Hivewire appeared to be prepared to listen, are resisting calls to have it launch too soon and the team appear to have a passion for what they are creating.  They deserve to succeed.

I know that you are planning to release it for free but in my head, people who are doing such an excellent job and giving me what im asking from Daz the last 2 years, should get paid for it!

I think everybody who appreciate this initiative should donate some money for them...

that would motivate them making even more wonderfull things!

I should think people who download Dawn for free and like her will support them by buying add-ons for her and other items from the Hivewire3D store which would be much more profitable than random donations :)

Yes, HiveWire will be a store, like DAZ.  It's not a nonprofit.  Support them by purchasing products there.  KenG's birds, LisaB's plants, and presumably a bunch of stuff for Dawn will be for sale there.  Buy it.  Or be a broker there and sell stuff!

Love the images of Dawn's hands.  I'm so excited.  She really does look revolutionary.  A game-changer.
