Subject: Lights not working as expected

Klebnor ( ) posted Sun, 08 December 2013 at 9:49 AM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 3:58 PM

I find today that using the “all objects except” selector with a bulb no longer works.  I have tried in both C 8.0 and 8.5 and get the same effect.  If I put a light inside an object and add the object to the exception list, the light is obscured by the object.  Additionally, if the bulb is outside the object, and I select “all objects except” and add the object, it is still lit by the light.

Anyone else find this issue?  Is there a fix or work around?

Thanks,

Klebnor

I checked this in C8.1 works fine for me.

I have this happen sporadically in C8.0.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

I always have to delete the light and make a new one.

Strange, it is working well for me in 8.1, 8.5 (prerelease) and 8.5 v243.

Are you running Mac or PC?

I have had problems similar to this when tge scene has multiple objects with the same name.  Just as an idean, make sure the object has a unique name.

Its just an idea but maybe it will help.

once you rename object, clear it from the list in your light, then add it again.

Thanks everyone.  I got some good tips over at DZ forum.  This model (bar lounge) uses bones throughout (god knows why for four walls, a ceiling, floor and some lights).  This somehow ties the objects together and seems to confuse this light function.  I am going to play around some more, but for the time being I just used a spot light with 90 degree angle placed at the bottom of the light fixture to get the effect I wanted.

Someone suggested I just need to uncheck casts shadow for the light fixture object, will try that just out of curiousity.

Yes, after I posted. Apparently because I can't read and comprehend at the same time.

Remember, I'll buy you a boubon the next time you're in Denver.

Mark:

Could be a while - my entire Denver team defected to a competitor and I closed our office in the DTC.  If I do get there (spending more time in FL and AZ these days) I'll give you an advance heads up.  Would love to collect that Bourbon.
