Ive been asking the same question lately and from what i understand you have two options, well a few but two that stand out anyway. You can save your animation out of poser, and save as an avi file yeh? The you have a few options really. You could then take your avi into Adobe Premier and export into gif format. Then import that gif file into flash and save an a SWF file. The problem with this, or so im told is that Flash 4 or 5 tends to create rather big file sizes, in fact i tried it and the avi was exactly the smae size as the flash i created. The secret it seems is to play around with the settings in both poser and also Premier. Keep your movies as short as possible, perhaps play around with the GIF export settings and reduce the number of colour if you can. And keep your movie dimensions down as small as possible. n other words dont try creting a Flash movie from an ive that is 640x640. Sorry i cant be more help but hope it gives you an idea. Im told that Flash3 offers smaller SWF files when importing GIF files, but not sure how much truth there is in that. P>S Ive just re-read your question and your looking to export and avi movie from poser yeh? Assuming of course that you have created an animation you need to then go into "Animation" on your top tool bar then "make movie" that brings up a dilaog box where you can choose the size etc. Hope that helps a bit more lol :) Later!

THe problem with using image files in Flash is that they are, well, image graphics. Flash gets it's amazingly small file sizes in it's movies due to the fact that it uses vector graphics, instances, and "tweens". Each frame is like only the difference between it and the previous frame, whereas each frame of an animated GIF or an AVI has all the image info in every frame. i think the only way to do what you want is to have the Poser Pro Pack, but I don't know if that's exactly what you want either.

yes do i have to buy that ?

phuturelegend ( ) posted Wed, 26 September 2001 at 6:42 AM

yeh this is true....one way to convert your Bitmap images into Vector is by using Macromedia freehand and tracing each frame of your animation once youve exported it as a gif. Its a lenghty process though so be warned. Having said that its very easy to do if you can invest the time. All you do is open up freehand, draw a selection round your bitmap image and it converts it into Vector shapes, you then just place your cursor onto the bitmap image and press the delte key and you and up with only the Vector version. another thing to consider is the loss of image clarity when your using solid vector shapes rather than Run Length Encoding. In other words where your original bitmap might fade from black to white very gradually, a vector graphic of that bitmap would be made up of solid shapes fading from black to white. Best thing to do if your interest is visit the macromedia website and download the trial version.

The Poser Pro pack can do direct flash output yes, but I have only been able to output 4-colored images so far. If I enter any other number it simply tells me it won't accept anything but numbers (which I'm providing it with...). In the end I decided to export it as .jpg files and then open them in flash which can handle sequencial files (you only import the first one and it ask you if you want to include the others). Very simple and easy. But as the others have said here. The size may be a bit large. I've stored some of my flash/poser creations here.

That would be illegal my son lol 10 points for trying though :) No serioulsy, if your going to use it then its only fair you pay for a legitimate copy really. After all, how would you feel if you spent 6-12 months developing a peice of softwaree and then everyone ripped it off for free! ?

Hi all :) I was about to buy the Pro Pack, but as I saw the Flash-output not working properly, I gave up :( In fact, there is no way to output a true-color animation to flash, or to other types of programms without sending the background :( As I like to work up under Flash, I wanna no Background :( I need transparency 😢 Please I beg you all to answer me if you can......help How can I output Hires Pictures to Flash with transparency ? regards Stefanie

phuturelegend ( ) posted Fri, 05 October 2001 at 10:16 AM

The only solution you have then really is to save your animation as a series of images (i.e Jpeg's or gif's) and then stitch hem together in a program such as Macromedia Fire works and turn them into a transparent gif file etc. The only problem is obvioulsy its not in flash format. There is now way round this really. The only other thing i can suggest you llok at is adobe After Effects 5! www.adobe.com If your working with flash then why do you need a transparent background anyway? Can you not just match the colour value of the background to that of your stage in Flash, making the appearance of tranparency? Or why not look at outputting your file somehow into flash format (even if not transparent at this stage) and then import that flash movie into Macromedia Director, choose transparent background from the property inspeactor and then export it as a shockwave mvie or something. There is allways a solution to ANY problem at all, the oly thing you need t do is find it belive me. Might take a bit of lookin at but try not to think to laterally. Look at the compatibility betwen differetn programs and come up with a workable solution. Its not easy but i am 100% positive that if you invest time then youll sort it out. Good Luck

another program you might want to take a look at is called Vecta 3D. Notsue where you get it from now but search places like www.downloads.com and see if you can find it. Might not be suitable for your needs but worth a look for yourself

"How can I output Hires Pictures to Flash with transparency ?< YOU CANT!!!........ well you can but you miss the whole point of why flash was invented. it was created to deliver LOW BANDWIDTH animation to the web that most any veiwer can enjoy ( even 28k dial up users) this naturally precludes Hi-res imagery with thousands of colors if you want full hi-res animation on the web you will have to post AVI or quicktime or even MPEG that people can veiw within their browsers or down load . I have converted digital video to flash using my seat of after effects5 and the flash file was so BIG i was better off posting on my web server as a quicktime movie after compressing it with media cleaner pro for the web Read the documentation that came with your flash Application

OK, there are a few different issues here, I'll try and take them one at a time. 1) Why would someone do this? Well, lot's of reasons. Sometimes short video needs to be integrated with a Flash animation in a seemless way that interacts with and syncs with that animation. When that happens, it is often completely reasonable to embed the movie right into the flash. 2) Isn't the size huge? Well, that depends. It's a lot bigger than MPEG2 but that isn't always important. The PNG/JPG sizes can be pretty small in individual frames and since this is Flash you CAN stream the movie. 3) Whais the limitation? A Flash movie has an absolute limit of 16000 frames or so. Also, the way Flash draws the screen means that you will NOT be able to push 640x480 at 30fps or anything silly. 4) How do I do it? Any number of ways, but there IS an emerging set of applications dedicated to this problem. One of the best ght now is Flix from Wildforms. If you head over there they have demo's online. Enjoy!

@Wolf and others: Thanks for your answers :) To my opinion, a software should do what the user wants not software wants itselfs :) Please, take a few seconds and follow my text : I would like to have a realtime animated Poser-figure-head in real-color on my webpage. That face starts talking phonemic about the content of the webpage. <--- AVATAR :) So I need a highres transparent output for my Poser-Scene. I bought Poser, and Mimics and I was about to buy the pro pack, too, but I'm afraid all that investigations were fault:( Sorry, wasting your time..... I'm so sad now, 'cause I planted my last money on that project and now....... :( Thank you all for your answers Stefanie

Don't give up so quickly! Your next step is to create a Microsoft Agent. You take the Poser generated animations from and form them into an agent and get exatly what you are looking for. I have done it with the exception of putting it on a web page. I have seen MS Agent web pages so it can be done.

ComputerArts gave away Flix 1.0 in their August 2002 edition (not the ComputerArts special). This will take an avi and convert it to flash. And yes, the ProPack flash export thingie sucks bigtime! 1) Not possible to have more than 4 colours in the animation 2) No control over the resolution of the flash file. 3) Not possible to tun off the contour lines
