I love the new look and the navigational improvements. My only complaint has to do with the color scheme for the pricing. Green on gray is very difficult to see and with my eyesight, I have to move abnormally close to the display to even see it. For me, this is a big issue. I would suggest changing the background directly behind the pricing to white.

You may wish to mention or make it clear that you can use an asterisk as a wild card in the search text.

I'm not sure the experience has been 'faster' for me over the past couple of days, but that could just be the fact that the system was being rolled out.  Again I am not sure of the larger thumbnails for the products, but that is a personal aesthetic.

The revised store looks, however, to be a nice upgrade.

On the whole, a nice change for the better!

Thank you for this Front Page article. I've been wondering the past couple days how to go about making a comment.

Synopsis: :b_nervous: :woot: :woot: :b_cool:

On my first view, I was somewhat flummoxed and a little nervous, not sure how I was going to like the new website. Before the time I had finished making purchases, I had run across the Search My Account option. SOLD! Whenever I do a Search, I'll usually scan the other items purchased at the same time as the file I was searching for. This new process shows me pictures, so I don't have to bounce back and forth between the Account page and the Model Sales page (I can't begin to remember what a model was that I bought last month, let alone last year and earlier). A very cool update.

It's probably the background, but there is definitely a softer less assaulting color to the page. My old eyes thank you.

You've had my loyalty for a few years now, and with your new Prime Membership and now this newly designed Website, I see it lasting for at least a few more years.

Thank you for mentioning that. I just made a comment, but did forget how difficult green on gray was for me (making me, too, get really close to the monitor). Green is a difficult color to keep from fading away. For my eyes, white can be glaring when in the middle of the surrounding gray, but a lighter gray or even a pastel green might work. Overall, though -- it's a complete thumbs up for me.

Chrome, Windows 8.1, 4K screen

  • Fonts on the product pages (product descriptions) are way too small compared to the promo picture on a 4K screen. If you scale the window to a font size comparable to the forum fonts, you will get a product picture which fills two screens

  • Search results are very poor (unless you dumped 90% of the items). Selected Essentials, Clothing, V4 and search for swimsuit yields 4 results.

  • Browsing the catalog is a lot more difficult. There are only very broad categories without being able to distinguish things like textures, meshes, male. female, v4/genesis. You have to use a search term before any options become available and that only displays a very small subset (see above)

  • There is no longer a clear distiinction between sponsored items and new items on the What's new page

  • The main marketplace shows no titles anymore for products - makes you guess what it is, what it is for and what it belongs to

  • The color choices (brown/red on a dark green background) are hard to read

  • The updated list no longer sorts across pages. So I have to press 150 times next page to see if there are any updates. Pretty clearly a bug

Renpatsu ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 2:25 PM

To be honest, not sure if this is a bug or feature: The layout is way too large on Chrome / Mac OS X. When I have to turn the head while reading the web site on full screen and have to scroll an enormous amount to even see the first page of new items, then it gets very tedious to read the web page. Just in case I will also add this to the bug thread.

Additionally, IMHO, clicking on a product should not open a new tab. If I want a new tab I use the ctrl / cmd key to force it in the browser - as a user's choice. IMHO it is bad form by a web site to force a new tab in your own domain in this way.

DavidGB ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 2:30 PM

I have - and have always had - my browser at less than full screen width on my laptop. Not far off - well over 4/5 screen width - but not quite full so i can keep an eye on other things while browsing. And this new shop layout - like the new freestuff - only displays TWO items per line with my brower at the width I use, as against 4 at full width (why it doesn't display 3, when the gap i leave alongside is less than the width of one shhop item under this new shop display scheme I don't know). This is not acceptable to me - FAR too much scrolling to see the new items only two at a time. Nor will I be dictated to by this one website alone to have to use full screen on it when I don't - and don't have to - on any other site.

Every major change to the Renderosity website and in particular to the display of the shop over the last ... three, I think, has been a major step backwards for me in terms of design and user friendliness. This one is the final step right back over the edge of the cliff, for me. It is unusable, so I won't be using it. Each previous change has made things worse for me, and I've bought less after each change. Less has now reached zero.

I'll keep browsing in to look at the top of the 'new items' page to see if a change has happened to make the display usable again (i.e. 4 items at least per line at my chosen browser width), but unless and until I see such a change has happend, I won't be looking at the items or buying anything.

I'm not holding my breath. It is my experience over many years browsing many sites, that after a site redesign, no site designer, and no executive who approved the new design, will EVER, EVER admit they were wrong and roll back the change. After all, that would be admitting responsibility for a mistake, and for wasting time and money. They will NEVER admit that, and just hunker down, ignore the criticism and bank on the users to eventually give up complaining and just get used to the new mess they've created. I expect that here, now.

Well, not this user this time. Unless and until the shop (and freestuff) display arrangement changes to something that is usable for me, I'm done here. What used to be a pattern of frequent buyiing here by me has already been reduced to 'infrequent' by previous changes; now it's zero. Of those of my favorite sellers who also have their stuff at other stores: I may buy from you there. For those who sell only here: thanks, good luck, and sadly goodbye.

will2power ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 2:33 PM

The breadcrumbs at the top of the marketplace don't drill down as far as they used to anymore. It used to be that you could go all the way down to the figure to browse generally what is available. So I could spend time looking at M4 stuff or Tyler stuff without having to sift through a lot of other stuff. I understand that when you search, you can do that from the side bar, but we used to have the ability to browse with a bit more efficiency that is gone now. I almost everything else that has been improved though. And speaking from someone who's a bit older, I think the new larger looking screens in chrome are much easier on my eyes.

Renpatsu ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 3:11 PM · edited Tue, 24 June 2014 at 3:14 PM

Since I just learned that this is indeed the intended layout, I am posting the feedback here.

With all due respect, my shopping here will be limited in the future. This layout is pretty much unusable - it is unbelievable to even call this remotely intended. If those are "thumbnails" then Goliath must have done the web design.

Two rows of items and four items each row on a full screen Chrome browser is inappropriate and unacceptable. This marketplace is the only web site literally forcing me to go full screen with my browser - there is just no other word than unacceptable.

TheMystEra ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 3:29 PM

Guess I should have posted this here and not in the comments... sorry :)

Is there a possiblity to implement the Figures back in to the selection when - as an example - one follows the path of 3D Figure Essentials-Characters (or clothing or whatever) ... so that after the second selection one can use a third selection for the Figure (like V4, Genesis, Mavka...)?

That would really help with finding what I'm looking for. The search itself isn't bad, with the new sidebar it is really upgraded, but when I'm looking for Clothes of a special style or a character for Michael 4, it's not really to much help. Because I'm not looking for a character, clothing, hair (etc) with a certain name... and I guess just entering "hair" or "character" into the searchfield will not necessarily show all the possible results?

Thanks for considering :)

TinaK ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 3:34 PM

We are not ignoring anyone I promise but working on getting bugs corrected first.  I am compiling a list and I will take these in front of the team for discussion.

Not many things are more fraught with anticipatory nerves, than asking for comments/feedback on just about anything, new Web page layout included.

In the few posts so far, one wants 4 items available, while another individual finds 4 too many and wants 2. One complaint was about the size of the thumbnails being way too large, while another individual (and, myself) appreciate a thumbnail which is big enough for we poorly-sighted to actually see what it is. These are just a few things where disagreement between posters is seen.

Good luck, Rendo. Hope nobody succumbs to the "bad vibes vapors."

DaWaterRat ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 3:38 PM

Search may be easier, but I don't find the categories logically named or well organized.  For example "add ons" presumably covers morphs and textures for hair and clothes, but should therefore be a sub category each of Hair and Clothes, not it's own category with subcategories for Hair and Clothes.

I'm not thrilled that browsing by the categories I look for now requires a search, but it is better than having the figure type after the type of item (so glad you got rid of that).  I find the default cateogries for browsing are overly broad and badly labeled.

Reaper99 ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 3:40 PM

As some others said, the thumbnails are way too big. Tried it on Chrome and Opera and without zooming out the page i get about 4 items per row.

Makes it a real hassle to browse anything.

Rendersapien ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 4:36 PM

Wow!  I like it!  Especially the new navigational system and the "purchases" link with the expandable views for each order.  I don't have any problems with any of the colors as so many other have reported, although I do have very high end large monitors.

The only thing that I don't like is that the thumbnails for products are two different sizes.  I'm assuming this is to get more money out of vendors by charging a higher price for them to get a larger thumnail on the product list pages.  The problem is, when you have a row of 4 products and one or two of the thumbnails are larger, it's distracting and a little annoying.  I want to scan across the row of products but my eye is natually drawn to the larger thumbnails making it harder to scan the products quickly to see if there is something new I like in the smaller thumbnails.

Other than that, I love the update.

The Prime item thumbs in wish list no longer have a Prime banner - will be a particular problem with time sensitive Classics.

3006 ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 6:42 PM

the market place is now very confusing.

The pictures are too large or to much per page.

You lose the overview. Also the wishlist ...overview is gone.

nathk ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 9:01 PM

The site may be quicker, but the design/layout takes up too much space, as I can only see two 'thumbnails' at a time if I don't go fullscreen with my browser. The item pages are set up much too large as well.

Plus for having the cart/wishlist buttons at the top of the item page as well - with the overly large setup that might save some scrolling.

IceEmpress ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 9:12 PM · edited Tue, 24 June 2014 at 9:21 PM

I do not like a SINGLE thing about the new layout, and aside from the people with vision problems, I cannot comprehend how anyone could like a single thing about this, unless they're masochistic.

Please implement CCS options so that we can choose our layout, without the loss of category functionality that you plan to implement.  That way, those of us who liked the old layout can choose that, and people can also choose a layout that is optimized for their monitor or device.  If you are not skilled enough to do this, then I demand you hire someone that is-- yes, I, as a customer, and on behalf of all of your customers and vendors, absolutely DEMAND it, and justly so.

Also, make the sale font yellow, for crying out loud.  I have the brightness and contrast at max and it's still difficult to read.

Otherwise, I demand you return the layout to what it was before, including the frame at the left on the vendor page.

jww1960 ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 9:20 PM

I used to be able to open a page from my item list that would show all of my purchases that had updates by clicking the "updated" column header.  This now only sorts the items on the current page.

Since I have been purchasing items here for over ten years it is not reasonable to expect me to check all my purchases for updates page by page.

Similarly I can no longer sort my wishlist by vendor.

Visually:

on the good:

Color scheme is easier on the eyes.

on the not-so-good:

I am not happy with what appear to me to be over large promo pictures on the marketplace pages when I am fullscreen.  It looks like an interface designed for smartphones and tablets with touch screens.

Overall it just appears to me to be another redesign that we will forced to get used to in order to use the site.

IceEmpress ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 9:26 PM

^^If you look at the screenshot on the homepage, THIS ATROCITY WAS INTENTIONAL WITH ONLY 3 PRODUCTS PER ROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Unless the thumbnails are returned to 25x25, I cannot and will not shop here ever again, and suggest that all vendors either pull their products and take business elsewhere, or open up a shop on another site as well.  Again, I sincerely apologize to all vendors here who have become victims of Renderosity's redesign abomination.

Also, bring back the memory size list that used to be beside the name of the product zip on the download page.  Not one of my demands, it's just annoying and inconvenient.

BTW, a warning-- If you do not have all of this crap fixed by the morningng of  the 28th, then I am gone.  I will clear my wishlist, and never shop here again.

The only exception to this is if you extend EVERYTHING until this is 100% fixed--

the date that prime membership expires, monthly render reward points, ALL of the sale dates since the day you implemented this abomination, EVERYTHING.

The morning of 28th hopefully gives everyone the chance to catch-up on missed sales, render rewards, etc.

For example, if someone's prime membership was to end 9 days after this reformat began, then I demand you extend it by 9 days after everything is 100% fixed.

I would suggest all customers likewise leave Renderosity forever if your Render Rewards and Prime Membership are not extended thusly in the event that things are not fixed by the morning of the 28th.

Oh, and just for the record, I have neither render rewards for this month nor prime membership.

I confess that I just spent a few minutes with the new shop by now... however, I truly believe that a "shop" should be accessible within a few minutes since a shop is a shop and not an adventure game, where the fun is to spend hours and days to figure out how to bypass obstacles.

Having said that I'm sorry to say that the new shop looks like a COMPLETE MESS to me. It's eye candy replacing basic functionality.

  1. Sorry, but the main shop layout ("what's new") is just a nightmare. One aspect is that I actually liked the simple smaller thumbnails, because it was a perfect overview. One may argue that these thumbnails are "the bigger the better" (which they are not), but since the new thumbs are not just bigger but of a DIFFERENT SIZE one by one, the whole shop no longer looks like a well organzied shop but like an amateur blog where someone just posted stuff and bits and pieces without the slightest idea how the whole lot looks like.

  2. But what I really dislike is that basic features actually got REMOVED! For example, I loved to sort my wishlist by vendor, which was a simple click in the old shop. It was a great way to have an organized look, especially since most vendors have a "theme" for their work. Unless I'm blind, this is gone.

  3. But what's really bad: In the old shop it was easy to find all updates to purchased goods - just go to "item list" and sort by update. Most recent on top, look on the date, mission accomplished. In theory, this sorting still "exists", but it only sorts the 50 items currently on display. So in order to check all updates, the shop really forces the customer to step through dozens and dozens of pages, hitting the "sort/update" button one by one only to see the recent updates of the subset of 50 items currently on display.

Sorry folks, this has nothing to do with "I don't like it because it is new". You have removed core functionality and added some visual gimmicks. I understand that quite some of your users love this nevertheless, but I also must be honest to say that I don't...

woolfy ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 4:07 AM

I just can confirm with head-shaking the previous posts about the new shop-desigin and want to ask you if you have ever tested it before publishing?
I use Win7Pro and FF 30.0, IE11 but I in the product views I get no detailed information e.g. Discription of the product and also no information about the vendor.
The design is confusingly, useful features are removed and far away from being user friendly or useable.

I hope that you get this regulated because many of your customers won't use it...

IceEmpress ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 4:49 AM

^^As mentioned before, no, they do not use a test site to test anything, which is mind baffling and incredibly unprofessional.  If they did, this whole problem wouldn't even exist.

pisaacs ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 6:08 AM

Don't like the new layout:

Link to venders store should be below product picture, not above (too much scrolling around to do)

A required product sometimes burried deep in the description rather than up under the product picture, along with Poser this and that requirement, where it's easily visible

Thumbnails below too big.

Too many button colors and it all seems very choppy looking because of the so dark background and spacing

Price and sale info needs to be brighter, again maybe background too dark

For whatever reason, just seems harder to shop. like you're fighting the page instead of being relaxed with anticipation

DreaminGirl ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 6:44 AM

The new layout just looks chaotic when the thumbnails are not the same size.

And for the love of God, will we ever get back the 'Figure' search option? The very simple option to select a figure, say M4 or Dawn, and then get up everything that fits that figure, be it hair, morphs, clothing, props or whatever..  with further options to refine that search if needed.

The categories are also not very intuitive.. Say I'm looking for hair.. what do I select? 3D-model? 3D Figure Essential? Doesn't make sense to me at all!

I like the colour shceme tho, looks very pleasant on my monitor, but I can see how the green on grey would be problematic for some.

Ippotamus ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 7:35 AM

I just tried the new store.

It was a joyless experience to say the least.

I can't find anything!  I can't sort the MarketPlace by software compatibility, figure or really anything useful.  If you expect customers to click on every new release to see if it works for them, I fear for your general future as a business.

The new look reminds me a lot of Myspace.

That is never a good thing in 2014.

Take a look at the big, professional sites in any field.

Amazon, Apple, Google, Cnn, and on and on and on.

White with black text.  It's clean, natural and easy on the eyes.  That's why they all use it.  Renderosity should as well.

What has been done here just looks amateur at best.  But really without basic functionality?  Who cares what it looks like?

I will still supports my +favortited+ vendors here when I get an Email reminder.  But I seriously doubt I will be doing any browsing/window shopping/spontaneous shopping here until some major changes have been made.

I do wish you the best of luck in that regards.

helgas ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 10:34 AM

The Wishlist has become unmanagable. What was compact and easy to scroll through a week ago has turned into huge boxes with tiney text that is barely readable. To scroll just through one page seems to take forever. The easy to see Prime and Prime Classic Banners are history. Sorting by Vendor is history.

This morning I started looking for some items from a specific Vendor. I scrolled and scrolled until I said to myself "Who needs this. This is my Hobby and it should be fun. Life is to short to spend it scrolling through a Wishlist for an hour".

I  also realize that I have to reduce my Wishlist to not more than 2 pages. 5 pages need to go.

Prime Membership is coming up for renewal. If there is no visible improvement in the very near future I will not extend my membership. Shopping and managing the Wishlist has become so time consuming and unpleasant that I am loosing interest.

When I look at this mess I dont feel angry - I just feel very sad. Renderosity was a place to go and relax. Shopping was a breeze. At the moment I have to force myself to take a look at the new items and I don't feel any desire to buy something.

Tim said that the small and large thumbnails are due to the fact that some vendors have not submitted the new thumbnail size. Were vendors not informed in time to make these changes before the opening?

I still hope that Renderosity can turn this around and make it a success.

IceEmpress ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 10:42 AM · edited Wed, 25 June 2014 at 10:47 AM

To be honest, while annoying and I hate it, I can tolerate the bigass layout of the Wishlist.  The functionality is what kills me-- the "sort by" functions don't work (clicking does nothing) and there is no option to sort by vendor.

The bigass layout of the MP however is something that I cannot tolerate, and makes the MP unusable for me.

Tim said that the small and large thumbnails are due to the fact that some vendors have not submitted the new thumbnail size. Were vendors not informed in time to make these changes before the opening?

*It only matters to a limited extent, really.  Some vendors simply are not active here (and some are not active in the 3D world at all anymore).  I doubt those vendsors are going to drag themselves here just to make bigger thumbnails.  So the different sized thumbnails, while it will become much less significant, is here to stay.

3D Essentials?  WTH is that supposed to mean?

Folks, if you think I'm going to waste my time clicking on a product only to discover that it's for DS or Genesis or whatever that I don't use, you're wrong.

Today, products on the What's New page are indescernable as to WHAT THE PRODUCT IS!  Clothes?  Poses?  Software?

If some genuis thinks I'm going to waste my time clicking on it find out the answer to that question means your "genius" is simply clueless.

I'm just gonna walk on by....to a store that give me information about what I'm buying without wasting my time.

These slap you in the face "thumbnails" that are anything BUT, leads me to believe Renderosity is nothing but a place where chaos reigns supreme.

I agree, GREEN type on gray is hardly visible... the soft red is not much better...maybe (and I fear you will go TOO light if I say this) the gray is too dark?  But I'd rather have dark gray with white type...or yellow? something that will SHOW UP.

Everything is TOO TOO BIG!!!!! WITH SMALL TYPE!?  I HATE having to change my view from my NORMAL 125% to *100% to get images small enough but then I can't **read the type AT ALL!!! ***

What happend to the SEARCH MENU  and the OLD WAY of finding something specific...I USED to be able to click to find say, 3D, Clothes, then V4 or M4...etc... as far as I can see the "search" MENU is WORSE BY FAR!! I CAN'T USE IT AT ALL!!! That "drill down" aspect that another person here mentioned is gone.

I will say that the Search bar where I TYPE IN words seems to work MUCH better...I can be specific ie: Dawn Shoes... and I GET 'shoes for Dawn'... WISH THIS WAS THE ONLY CHANGE YOU HAD DONE.  :(

I keep having to serach around the screen for hot links that I used to know where they were ... HATE having the merchant's hot link at the TOP of the product, not down by the price, etc....

and again TOO BIG .. buttons are TOO BIG and look really hodge podge on the  page(s)

I never imagined me, with bad eyesight would be complaining that things are TOO BIG...but with the STILL SMALL TYPE OR FONT... sheesh!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH now this is funny (NOT!) As I type here, I MUST have my IE set to 125%, but to PREVIEW my post, It's HUGE... this is first time I have seen LARGE TYPE!! So with my 125%, it's TOO BIG so I had to reduce it to preview, then enlarge to come back "here" to type more.

I HAVE BAD SHOULDERS AND FINGERS! THE MORE I'M FORCED TO "MOUSE" THE MORE IT HURTS! LITTEARLLY! (that's another thing... YOUR CODE removed IE's auto spell check!!!!!) I know that word is spelled wrong...did it to test AGAIN... thanks alot you guys...MORE TYPING!

I do not like not having "auto-closing" with a click- the last of the "preview thumbnails" for a product!!! I have to do MORE scrolling to find the X to close it...  IS THIS A BUG? How can I know WHICH THREAD to post things in? I have no idea what is a bug and what was done on purpose. :(

wait, where is ADD TO WISH LIST??? oh huh?? a "thumb tack" button?!?! How is this clear? only the TINY pop up said wish list... UHG!!  :(

The harder you make it for us to shop.... well... need I say more? I spend from $100-$200 a month here...THAT is going to change...if not vanish entirely! As another person here said: they have never ever seen you roll back changes!  :(

At least HiveWire is a simple straight forward look and function...  !

Life Requires Assembly and we all know how THAT goes!

Man, I really feel for you, Lyne.  That is truly horrible, that you have to suffer like that just to browse the MP.  It's sure as hell a lot worse than the abomination that the rest of us have to put up with...! :(

^^Oh, so you disagree that extending monthly render rewards should be a demand?  How could you want such an insane thing?

can they shrink the column space between the thumbnails?

i see a row of 2, then 1,  less space between might be able to see 3 in a row.

OK, I figured out how to sort all my purchases by the "updated" column,

however it shows that over 122 items have "updated" dates in the last three days (06/23-06/25).  Really?  When normallly the average is maybe 3-4 a month?

I do not know why the two biggest 3d sites both insist on shoving untested (or at least poorly tested) updated sites and stores on their customers (Just in case everyone has forgotten about the DAZ store debacle last fall).

I know in their usual mode of "we know you'll love it... eventually... after you realize we won't ever change back" we will have to live with the majority of these "improvements".

This is normal for 3d site "upgrades" I guess, but it is frustrating and is not a method to encourage any kind of customer loyalty.

I would encourage Renderosity (and others) to stop doing wholesale updates and actually test things like item lists and wishlists before pushing out a site with reduced functionality.

Greetings,

I have a few things.

1:  Your thumbnails are not a consistant size.  This makes the page look very tacky.  Basic UX says to use a consistant layout, and you are already breaking that.

2:  Your search system seems to be very percise, and as a result limits the return set.  Additionally, the left nav filtering does not appear unless you search, leaving it fully unavailable on the default page load of the marketplace.

The customer should be able to filter on any result set, including the default one.

The next part is going to sound a bit preachy, but really, it's getting old.   I am a front end web developer for a major retailer (LLBean).  I work on design, and coding with a sharp focus on personalization, promotions and A/B testing.  In fact, I am writing this from a hotel room while I attend Google I/O which is one of the largest tech events of the year, and it's focused on performance, testing, mobile and wearable tech.

As near as I can tell, your testing methods are woefully inadequate.  Granted bugs do slip by and enter production from time to time, but the last three major releases that have happened to this site have resulted in entire sections of the site not working properly for sometimes days.   Errors of that magnitude should never happen on such a regular basis.

Additionally, it is fully evident that the staff does not know how to handle development and deployment.   Proper development does not get deployed unless it passes testing.  It can't even go to testing unless it's considered to be complete.   It being COMPLETE prior to going to production is how you avoid this kind of feedback.

When you deploy code, it should be transparent to the user as possible. Sure, the layout may switch one time when they move from one page to the next, but this isn't a ongoing battle where customers continue to see broken content for days.  You, as a company, should be able to force a hard refresh on the client side without forcing the customer to take action.

Further, it's typically done during off hours when the server load is the lowest so anything that may go wrong impacts the least number of people possible.

If for some reason it goes into production and it's clearly buggy, you should roll it back until a time all the known issues are fixed.  If a company the size of Etsy can do 50 deployments a day, or Google can rollback an app update, there is no reason at all that this company can't revert code, unless for some reason you are not backing up the codebase before deployment to begin with.

I am telling you flat out.  Fix your development and deployment steps, and you will totally eliminate 90% of the negative feedback you get whenever you update your site.

-Search improvements are a very good thing.  Bad search is a problem on just about every mom-and-pop 3D repository out there, from DAZ3D to Thingiverse, so any and all improvements are much welcome.

-Unfortunately the search improvements seem to have come at the expense of the entire rest of the site.  Suppose I need hair for Dawn, it used to be possible to pull up a all Dawn-based hair items for by navigating through categories, and then filter by models/textures/styles/etc. but now it's all been dumped in a generic "hair" category regardless of what figure(s) it's for or what kind of item it is.

-"Essentials" is a lame and overly generic tag that gives no indication as to what the item actually is.  While it would be nice if artists included good descriptive titles and thumbnails for everything so you can tell from the name and picture that it's a prop, or texture or whatever, the reality is that it doesn't work this way and in most cases a Poser smart prop shows up the same as a V4 hair or Gen2 character morph.

-There needs to be a classic/compatibility mode and/or a LOT of rework for lower resolutions.  Not all of us browse fullscreen on a >=1080p display and at 1200 pixels or less width the styling is a complete disaster.  Two items per row, filters take up a full 1-2 pages of screen space before hitting results, colossal text almost as large as the old thumbnails, etc.

I understand where you're going with the site redesign, colors schemes work well and I'm sure it looks great on the 4K panel you guys must have used to smoke test.  But the site is basically unusable for everyone else.  The last two points in particular conspire to make it impossible to find anything at all, since category browsing is unusable and sale/vendor lists no longer have meaningful filters.

Since I cared enough to step out from the shadows and make a point and feeling a little squirrelly tonight, I shall now back up my assertion C++ style.  Here's a screenshot compilation of what happens when I do a fairly simple search in a ~1000x900 browser window, more than many 5:4 monitors can handle and the lion's share of my own 1050p display--yes that is FIVE PAGES of derp before actually hitting results, and then only 3 items per page.  Seriously, nobody is going to wade through ~50 items to find the one they want if this is what the experience is going to be like.

Likes: Button on product page shows if you already purchased. Big improvement because I no longer have to click to put in my cart just to find out. Kudos

Dislikes: Dark background feels unprofessional. White is better--just a comment. But I echo several posters complaining about the price in green. I CAN'T READ IT UNLESS MY NOSE IS ALMOST TOUCHING MONITOR.

Also, don't make customers angry. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE stop opening all those tabs. Stop it. Just STOP it. I know how to use the back arrow/button on my browser. I also know how to right-click and select 'Open in new tab' if I WANT TO. It seems every thumb I click on opens a new tab. Wasteful, silly, stupid, infuriating.

And, the joke's on you. In my browser I have a few tabs I keep permanently. DAZ3D, You, RDNA, Hivewire (others too but I keep the stores together). Sometimes when I close one of your forced new tabs I'm taken to a tab for another store. HAH!

Disclaimer: I know it was hard work for you and I'm not averse to change. I can get used to a lot but the items I mentioned are serious for me.

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

I didn't see the sticky where Rendo advertized the position of website designer, but I'm guessing it said something like "No experience necessary, just figure it out as you go".

Surely the purpose of this site is TO MAKE IT EASY FOR CUSTOMERS TO FIND WHAT THEY WANT SO THEY CAN BUY IT? Instead, the new design makes it clumsy to search and almost impossible to browse.

The approach seems to be that if you bombard the customer with enough come-to-bed-eyes thumbnails he'll eventually click on one just to find out what product it represents. If, by some chance, he has a use for it he might buy it.

BROWSING:

Why are the browsing filters so limited? I can't filter deeper than "3D figure essentials>Character" and I get 76 pages with 36 thumbnails per page, that's 2736 products. Only about 1 in 10 product names mentions what figure it is for, for the others I have to wait for a new tab to open each time. After 2 pages I say "Fuck this" and go shopping somewhere else.

SEARCHING:

I try a search for "Character", this time I get 3589 results, that's 850 more than 3D figure essentials>Character showed me - how does that work? This time I get filter options, hurray! (why didn't those options exist for browsing?). Why do I need to search for 'character' before I get an option to filter the results by 'character'?

The trouble is that there is no indication of how the filters work, can I filter by V4>Poser2014>Glamour>character, do they work together or does selecting the last one cancel the others?

There's no hilighted button or breadcrumbs trail at the top of the screen to show what filters are currently active. The only clue to what's going on is the "View All" options which come and go in the filter list - if you see it a filter must be active. Gee, if you were trying to conceal it you almost succeeded. If you were trying to make it user friendly I'd call it a fail.

Then, just to confuse things, some of the add-ons and props subset filter buttons are highlighted for no reason (they are already indented, no need for the lighter color).

Also, in my browser the white dropdowns at the top right say "Shop a specific v..." and "shop one of our t..." - unless I drag the browser window wider those buttons resize too small for the text they contain.

I also got that list view at first. Try hitting CTRL+F5 to force a refresh, it should settle down to filters in the sidebar and rows of thumbnails.

To be very blunt I hate the new market place layout.  Huge images of products (only 2 to a row) mean hundreds of pages to click through.  I'm using a laptop and it's now torture trying to preview items in the market place.  In fact I don't even get past the first page.  Please either revert to the old layout or rethink the new one.

The red, orange and green text on a black background is very difficult to read on a small screen.  Make it white text on a red/green/orange box like you've done with the wishlist.

The browsing filters are (still) severely lacking.  This is a long term issue.  I need to be able to search by category like at DAZ.  Clothing, figures, hair, props, environments, poses, M4, Genesis etc. etc.

And no spell check in the forum...crazy!

On the plus side I like the new wishlist layout.  The product image size is perfect and this should be the size of market place product images.  If I need large images of a product I'll go to the product page.

So far the re-design is 2/10 for me.

Quote - I confess that I just spent a few minutes with the new shop by now... however, I truly believe that a "shop" should be accessible within a few minutes since a shop is a shop and not an adventure game, where the fun is to spend hours and days to figure out how to bypass obstacles.

I have to agree with everything stated above.

I would add that bigger is not always better. If you need a closer look, what was wrong with the pop-up system you had?

I am on a 27" Mac using Firefox - and all of the information I need and look for (item on sale, regular price vs. sale price, etc.) on the item page proper, is now "below the fold" (think newspaper here - scrolling is the browser equivelent) and in colors that are VERY difficult to see against the mid-dark grey. On basic pages like the Prime pages or the Marketplace front page, I get just the main sales pitch - and damn few items to see - everything else is "below the fold." None of this is condusive to browsing.

On the front page or the Prime pages, I used to be teased with a grid of like 12 to 16 items to click on and get a closer look - now, no clicky, no looky. When I scroll, I just get crosseyed from being too close.

The wishlist is now completely unusable and if it doesn't change I will just delete the whole thing (I have something like 670 items in mine).

Pretty? Sure. Functional? Nope.

My 2 cents.
Looks like sales will suffer y'all... better address these things soon... I see many saying this.

....and again TOO BIG .. buttons are TOO BIG and look really hodge podge on the  page(s) The harder you make it for us to shop.... well... need I say more? I spend from $100-$200 a month here...THAT is going to change...if not vanish entirely! As another person here said: they have never ever seen you roll back changes!  :(

At least HiveWire is a simple straight forward look and function...  !

LYNE,
I agree with all you've said, but I'm begining to worry about the future look of RDNA too. Here's what SYD posted on facebook on June 20th about the still closed (as of June 26th) RDNA site.

QUOTE from Facebook :

STATUS UPDATE: REBIRTH OF RUNTIME DNA

WE ARE actvively working on having the forums up by tonight or tomorrow morning.
VENDORS: You were mailed an access key. Please make sure to get into your pages. Please read that email for instructions

MEMBERS: We are working around the clock to finish. The store has some great new features, bigger better product pages and thumbs, search features, wishlist features, purchasing features, etc.

BACK TO WORK FOR ME!

Syyd

END QUOTE

Yikes!
What is with these broker sites with huge product pages and huge "thumbs"?
I can't even view some vendor's main graphic with out scrolling. It's like trying to view one of your great animal textures but only seeing first the hoof, then the body, then the head, but never the entire animal.

If RDNA follows suit with "bigger" and "better" pages and thumbs, let's hope HiveWire3d doesn't catch this "re-design" bug also.

And LYNE, if you do move, let us know on your site or this one.

I too am having a bit of trouble navigating it. Having to depend solely on the search to find anything is not fun. One of the things I liked about renderosity before the updates just prior to this last batch, was the ability to view all the items or types of items from a single figure at once or narrowd. The way the listed items appear is set to newest to oldest by default. Thats ok but like I had said in another post, the sort options is lacking. No more sort by popularity, ranking, or best sellings. One issue that I still find is with the symmetry text boxes. I would also really like it if the way the categories listing is set up changed to something more compact. I find my self doing way too much scrolling.
