Subject: Another question - re. clothing props

clatsopduck ( ) posted Thu, 10 July 2014 at 8:24 AM · edited Sat, 08 February 2025 at 9:05 AM

I finally am getting along with the fitting room (yay!) and have successfully used the "create figure" button (per Poser tutorial) to create some new clothes for my Ryan figure. From the Pose room, I do not see any way of adding my new creations to the library... I added the appropriate folders, but the icon for adding an item isn't available...

Am I going to have to go back to the fitting room and "spawn prop" instead? (And if I have to do that, how do I find the resultant prop (i.e. where does Poser automatically put them?) Or is there another way to add my items to the library from the Pose room?

(Was hoping my FB group would help me, but they seem only interested in sharing work, not helping a newbie.)

If the clothing item is completely rigged, or a figure, you are attempting to save it in the wrong location.  You should be saving under the Figures category of the Poser Library, not under props.  You can only save dynamic clothing in Props.

I was under the impression (after following the Poser tutorial) that I was creating dynamic clothing in the fitting room...

The option I was told (in the tutorial) to use was "create figure" despite it being dynamic clothing...

However, going over to "figures" seems to give me the option to add it to the library now - will have to see how that works out for me...

Thanks.

You must spawn the resulting clothing and name it something like new clothing or simply a number like "1".  This clothing will appear right over the original dress that you performed the fitting on in the fitting room.  You will need to delete your original dress be it conforming or dynamic; this new clothing replaces the original one (you will retain all your morphs, textures etc).  If you find that you have some poke thrus etc with your new garment, bring it back into the fitting room repeat, new name and back in the Pose room delete the new older garment (You should have only one garment when finished).

Then do what Hborre instructed you to do.  Jan

Resizing and refitting with dynamic clothing is better performed in the cloth room rather than the fitting room.  When you see 'create figure' option, you are essentially creating a conforming figure or figure cr2.

From what I was looking at the cloth room tutorial yesterday, it looked like that was more designed for animation rather than stills... but I could've gotten a wrong impression.

Slightly frustrated, tbh, spent a lot of time looking for tutorials only to find that the official one is giving me slightly weird info...?

The problem I was finding when I tried the "spawn prop" is that I have no idea where it's gone (file wise)... Do I just go back to the pose room and save the item to my library?

The cloth room is an automated feature which will better fit your dynamic clothing for both still images and automation.  As Plutom describes, spawn a prop then return to the Pose room, select and delete your original clothing from the scene, your prop should be available.  Select the prop and save that back to the Library under Props.  Now you have new clothing for your figure.

Dynamic clothing ican be a single "prop" object file with no groups. It does not need them.

Conforming clothing has both a cr2 (as it is a rigged figure) and a object file with groups.(chest, abdomen, hip, arms, legs, and so on)

a) You "can" import a dynamic clothing object in the cloth room, do a cloth simm, and save the outcome as a "clothing prop" in your props folder.

b) You "can" import the same dynamic clothing object in the fitting room, and do a fit to your figure, but you will have to check the option "AUTOGROUP" to create the groups in the object file.
When clicking the final "OK", the Fitting room creates a conforming clothing item that is treaded as a figure. (As all conforming clothing is.)

In "a" Poser Cloth room only makes a modified object file => Goes in the PROPS Folder.
In "b" Poser Fitting room makes a fresh cr2 and a modified object file => Goes in the Figures Folder.

Hope that helps, Tony

Just so you know, that's not completely true. Well, at least it used to be not completely true. You can save a figure to the prop library by simply changing the filing tag from cr2 to pp2 and vice versa.

Yes, that is true.  Changing the format designation will do the trick.  But that change done externally, not within Poser itself.  The answer was addressing the workflow within Poser which the OP was concerned about.

Thanks, Tony. That is immensely helpful! I almost feel like I understand where the stuff is going now.

So, when I went back and did 'spawn prop' in the fitting room, I did end up with a prop that could be saved in the prop library. The problem was... when I added it back to my figure (for whom it was designed), it no longer fit... It was slightly off - possibly a slight rotation off even. Not sure why it did that. So far, for me, the conforming clothes seem to work better - though I'm not totally sure why.

Now, I need to add a second piece of clothing... In this case, I started with a pair of capris for Ryan. I then added a shirt which would overlap with the capris slightly. I can't use the fitting room to make it fit to Ryan (because then it doesn't fit over the capris - even when I go back and conform it to Ryan) and I can't use the fitting room to make it fit to the capris (as there is nothing inside... it went all weird.) Even after listening again to the Poser tutorial on the cloth room, I haven't the faintest idea how to handle a still object in there...

How do I go about adding the second piece and have it work?

When using the fitting room, first zero your figure and the item of clothing before entering the fitting room.  Make the necessary adjustments, go back to the Poser room and save.  Create a new scene, import your figure, zero first, then load your clothing.  See if this fixes the problem.

My recommendation for overlapping conforming clothes, use Poser's morphing brush to paint a loose fit over the capris.  However, this should be done after the final posing of the figure, never from the T stance.  The cloth room can perform multi-layering but they must be performed in separate simulation.  A problem that can arise, however, is how the conforming clothing is constructed and meshed.  If there are too many separate sections to the mesh, the clothing will fail during the cloth simulation.

Thanks.

I'll go and try that one later. For the moment, I've taken my character over to Daz to try and get my project finished. But I'm not giving up on Poser - I'm still convinced it's got more of what I need.

I don't think Ryan will work in DAZ. And don't forget you still have Wardrobe Wizard to fall back on.

Ryan definitely seems to work in Daz, thankfully.

Wardrobe Wizard???
