Blender F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 24 8:44 pm)
I use two monitors and multiple windows. My startup file opens them all but I hate having to close them all separately. I've just found a small tool that deals with this; see thread for 'bxmouse' tool.
I like to use my main monitor (on the right) for just the stage and put pallets or windows on the left one. In Premiere Pro I have the timeline spread across the bottom of both monitors. In Photoshop I have pretty much every pallet open so I don't have to search for the things.
Currently using the Energy V14 theme (download), although I like the modo theme too.
ETA: oh, and because I build-my-own from git-sources, I always make the programme launch from Terminal. That way, I can keep an eye (and report) on errors that don't show up in the Python console. However, errors are few and far between these days... this has got to be one of the most stable programmes ever.
Silo needs to go Open-Source, I think, if it ever wants to achieve the same level of stability!!

To the first question, simple answer: I don't run sims in Blender. Yet. Most of what I do is modelling only, then (for dyn cloth) simming in Poser.
2nd question: yep, sure does! thanks for the tip! MUCH easier than that [CTRL] [UP-ARROW] / [DOWN-ARROW]...

i guess that makes me a dinosaur of sorts because i still love the 2.49 interface as stock
if the newer blenders would let me have the new features with the old looks id be a fan of them but since they dont ill stick to the edition i know best
i can model and sculpt in the older version and then take that to 2.69 for rendering and meterials
I have been using an amalgam custom 2.71 build (Sensei Format/Zero Brush, Moarz Paint, and my own custom implementations) with original Pie Menus, and 2.72's BI real-time Render (via SF).
I use a slightly modified Hexagon Theme (colors easy on my tired eyes). If you click on the images you can see my custom UI mods (within the BF UI structure). One image is the default layout, and the other is full-screen (with Pie Menu pop-up). * In post below *
I like the original Pie Menu compared to the new 2.72 version, which I use in a test-build.
Blender is, indeed, a highly customizable piece of software. Even above the default, basic customizing.
I had tried the Sensi format when trying to follow a few of their tutorials on Youtube but just couldnt get use to it but it is very true Blender is so Customizable that you can set things up just how you want. I did get use to using the orginal Piemenu addon but when I updated to 2.7 and above didnt seem to work any longer and I saw that the creator of the add was working on getting it to be part of the standard build. By the way DaremoK3 that looks like an impressive model your working on.

Thank you, Lobo3433. It's an old model I created for a client a couple years back. Just put it in as filler for the screen grabs (cube is so boring).
Yeah, Sensei Format can take some time getting used to it. Personally, the refactored commands work against my work-flow, and I can't use my Logitech two-button trackball mouse at all. It needs two-button emulation (which can't be enacted with SF setup), but luckily my one-click mouse buttons work with no issues.
I am going to further modifiy this version to work as I want it, and will use 2.72 default when it comes out (have test version for now).
I like that they added the Pie Menus to trunk, but don't like the visual changes made to it. Maybe I'll get used to it, and like it better later, but for now I want to stick with the old version (since it still works).
Hello DaremoK3
Yesterday I was in Blender Artist forum and yes I also hang out there have not been a member there as long as here but saw a post for a modified version of the Pie menu that someone else customized to their own liking adding some functionality that supposedly the one that will be defualt with 2.72 does not have. I got use to the old version but kept acting wonky with 2.71 so disabled it. The new one I gave it a whirl to see how it is by getting a daily build just to see how it functioned. I just saw that there is a test build release today for 2.72.

Hello HMorton
Here is a direct link to the test builds download https://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.72/ as a bit of advice downlad the zip file and run Blender from within the folder so it si seprate from your installed version they can both run on the same Machine but if you install it using the exe file since it is still in a beta testing you dont want any potential bugs cuasing an issue with the stable installed version. I tend to run test builds from the folder to get a feel for it
Good luck
