So, to deactivate your user account here you have to:

"... first sign into your account and remove your gallery, friends, free-stuff, wish-lists and favorite lists, and remove any notifications you have set (e.g.gallery subscriptions, site mail notifications, newsletter, daily digest, etc. Once you have done this, please send an email to admin@renderosity.com and your account can then be closed."

Seriously?

Is this place so incompetent that you have to jump through all those hoops just to close your account?

I think it'll be easier, and more fun,  just to get permanently banned...

We do this in order for you to make sure if there is anything important associated with your account.  You may want to download any images you have in case you wanted them.

Did you write into admin@renderosity with this request?

I will be happy to assist you but we do hate to see any members leave.

What happens if you don't do any of that stuff and die? Does that mean you have an account at Renderosity for all eternity. Hey, look at that!  The forum spellcheck doesn't recognize the site name as being spelled correctly.

Whoa, when someone like me or my alter-ego (DeathMetalDesk) contemplate such a move it's easy to chalk it up to mood swings or a penchant for creepiness... When important fixtures of this community such as Snarly or BB indicate such a desire there's a real problem here. While I respect your dissatisfaction I humbly hope that you reconsider, Snarly.

Unbelievable.

Not surprised.

Nothing interesting is happening in the forums anymore.  What I am more concerned about is hearing from more than 1 vendor, on more than 1 storefront is that 'Rosity isn't interested in supporting non-DAZ figures.  Once is an accident, two is a coincidence, but 3 is enemy-action.

I am deciding whether or not to renew my Prime membership.  The quality of the site does figure into that decision.  'Rosity seems to be moving in the wrong direction - I don't think being a DAZ.com wannabe is a long-term bet.

BTW, is anyone else having the "phantom message notification"?  When I visit the main page, my email icon is lit, and my inbox says I have a message, but damned if I can find it.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Mon, 23 March 2015 at 5:45 PM

I have to admit this place is a whole lot less fun and considerably more hard work to use than ever before.  It runs like cold treacle on my machine, unlike every single other forum I frequent.  It's such a pain in the rear end to use that I have to consider whether or not it's worth the effort to post a comment.  I strongly suspect that's the case for many other members, too.

Honestly, Rendo guys, this forum software is absolutely horrible.  Please, please, pretty please, change it back.

Maybe, but let's face it, over at RDNA, most of the posts are only in about two or three threads. Most of which is off topic. I oughta know, I started two of them, and they're both about a year old.

If vendors aren't creating content for non-daz figures, how is that Renderosity's fault? I don't understand the logic in that statement. Aside from sets and prop pieces, I haven't seen much of any new content for non-daz figures being published at any site, other than HiveWire.

We are working on putting together some forum contests and challenges with actual prizes, just takes time to get details worked out.

Whether it is true or not, more than 1 vendor has stated that their content was rejected - and having seen the quality of content that is being accepted, I don't think that is the issue.

While I agree that some of the content that has been released lately has been somewhat 'lacking', I also keep in mind that the one vendor I have so far seen expressing what you say, is a vendor that has a bit of a, shall we say, 'reputation', and I would take what they say with a grain of salt. But that's just me. So far I see no sign of Rendo dismissing non-daz figures.

I don't see a lot of topical conversations anywhere.  Without having access to the numbers, my impression is that forum traffic is becoming more off topic and less of it. I can see why Snarly is leaving, I don't spend any real time here anymore either.

AmbientShade ( ) posted Tue, 24 March 2015 at 4:29 AM · edited Tue, 24 March 2015 at 4:41 AM

googling site statistics show that 'rosity is still at the top of the poser-related sites in terms of traffic and sales by a significant margin. Anyone interested can run the same scans and find those results from multiple analytical sources, comparing the top poser sites and see for themselves.

So while forum activity may be low, traffic is still quite high.

I'd say the primary reason activity is down in general is due to a lot of people moving on to other interests, more advanced software, etc. There's a lot more available to the CG hobbyists now than there used to be. I do agree that the forum software needs work.

I have to agree and the word that really upsets me the most is the word 'going' rather than moving.  I have learnt so much from the names listed, and many more not mentioned, but they don't seem to be moving to another forum (if they are please let me know which one) which means they are a loss to the whole 3D community. I still shop here, far too much this month, thanks to so many sales, and I suspect I will continue my prime membership but I am finding more and more that I spend more time at RDNA than in this forum.  Go back a couple of years and my habit was to visit this forum every day and RDNA about once a week.  Now I visit RDNA everyday and sometimes I can go two to three days to without visiting here.  In addition I have started putting some of my images up in the RDNA gallery something I never used to do.

It is not only the forum either, OK I accept that some of these issues are only seen with Internet Explorer but, if you go into the galleries and then select a drop down, the menu list displays beneath the header so some options are hidden.  If I want to credit a vendor I have to fire up Google Chrome because the option does not work with IE.  In short the Rendo site has a lot of niggling little issues which add up to making it frustrating to use sometimes.

RDNA on the other hand seems to be slick in comparison and the forum there is a joy to use.

I can't argue with any of that and RDNA has the same problems, not surprising when it is often the same people, even if they do use different names. I guess other forums suffer in a similar way and the moderators have thankless job in that they are either accused of stifling conversations, taking sides or something much worse.  Problem is that the people leaving now are the ones we would like to hug, thus leaving the field to even more of the 'my software is great' or 'my view is the correct view' contributors.  Then throw into the pot issues like your last thirty minutes of typing disappearing because you tried to do something really whacky like a cut and paste, and the fun content of the forum heads ever closer to zero

So while forum activity may be low, traffic is still quite high.

How much of Rendo's bustling 'traffic' is just frustrated visitors struggling to get around this stupid site? Taking 3 attempts to post a forum reply because the stupid forum software doesn't work, taking 5 attempts to do a simple store search because the stupid store software doesn't work, having to go via 5 other pages to get from a gallery image to the see the rest of the artist's gallery because there's sometimes no direct link, being unable to go directly to the last page of a forum thread because it doesn't show as having multiple pages... I guess a city with messed up road signs would also have a lot of 'traffic' - a lot of people driving around pounding their steering wheels shouting 'WTF??!'

  • What does it matter if you use Modo, LW, C4D or Max. Offcourse one can have a discussion about features and such and offcourse passion is so important for artists, but when it becomes personal and it offends, it crosses the border and becomes rude...I have to zone out then, rather use my energy to create.

Experiences vary depending on what browser you're using. I use Chrome and have had no problems with the forums or the store in quite a while, but I know there have been some people that have had issues using IE.

You can post any problems you're having to the Marketplace Customer Service forum and make them aware of it if they aren't already. Or the Community Center forum for more general issues not specific to the store. Just be sure to give as much detail as possible - which browser, etc. Admin are usually pretty quick at looking into specific issues when brought to their attention.

I would do that if I though something might actually be done about it. Unfortunately, what typically seems to happen here is that you report a specific issue with details and screenshots, a friendly forum moderator acknowledges your post, and then nothing.

Anyway - TinaK has offered via sitemail to discuss my reasons for going. I shall take her up on that kind offer but will keep the discussion private, as all sitemail should be. Looking through this thread I see that I don't really need to explain anything anyway, as the issues seem to be well-known. I am, however, tired of coming to this site and leaving disappointed, frustrated, annoyed and sometimes even saddened. There is no room in my life for those feelings.

To clear up some important points:

  • I love Poser
  • I won't be stopping using it any time soon :-)
  • There will be more Snarly freebies one day, but you might have to hunt them down
  • If people want to keep in touch and find out what I'm up to, it won't be too difficult
  • Did I mention I LOVE Poser? :-D

For now, I think this thread would best be served by carrying on the discusssion about what would make Renderosity the fun, exciting and stimulating place it used to be - maybe somebody somewhere will be listening?

I know I've tried to convey my everlasting dissatisfaction with the site redesign(s), but it seems to fall on deaf ears. Since I am by no means the only person who's voiced their issues I can only assume Renderosity no longer cares what my (or my fellow dissatisfied site members) opinions are ;). If I have to stalk you around the internet to pick your brain, use your wonderful freebies or otherwise enjoy your sense of humor, I can do that too. LOLOL :P

As far as it being a kinder, gentler place I'm afraid that's up to the members. I for one am no longer interested in waging war over silly programs and their differences, but obviously others still are. Until people get over that I suppose the current attitudes will continue, which is a real shame.
