Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 28 11:20 am)
To make an FBM you will need a 3D modeler, like Blender, modo, or Maya. I have prepared a tutorial on how to create FBMs using Blender: http://preta3d.com/48/
The tutorial shows an old version of Blender but the concepts are usable with the latest version of the program.
Cheers.

Thanks Paolo,
I have installed Blender and I am working through the video tutorial you have made. I am stuck already however in that I am trying to import the Genesis 2 wavefront object and cannot find it anywhere. It is not in the following locations:
This looks promising but nothing there appears to be a .obj??
Do I need to create the .obj first?

You load G2 via DSON into Poser and then save the figure to a library of your needs. Then you have to look into the CR2 to find the name and the location of that obj file.
As you can see from the above screenshot all I have are dson, .py and poser content files.
I've opened them all just now in notepad and none point to a .obj I can see?

You have to open Poser, load D2 from MyLibrary//character//DAZ People thats the easiest way to get the object file. Alternativly you can export the object from studio but then you get an object without any bodypart or you select the option as cr2 then you have to select the runtime where the cr2 and the geometrie file is to be saved. You'll get an object file named like this: Genesis2Female_20d12c21_8649_1b0b_c3f4_e1ad66ec7.obj

As was posted, you need to save a copy of G2F back to the Poser library to generate the necessary obj file. Only then will you find the file in the Poser geometries folder of your Genesis 2 runtime.
I may have misunderstood this. I took at as though there was an assumption I hadn't installed G2 into poser which I had so I ignored it.
I still don't know how to "load G2 via DSON into Poser" then.
I have however made progress...I think..not thoroughly tested and I need to go out for a bit on a family mission.
I loaded the modified G2 figure into poser from the library.
I then selected, File > export > wavefront object ans saved it.
I then deleted the modified G2 figure and loaded the base G2 figure.
I then went to Figure > load full body morph, named the file and navigated to the saved .obj file loading it in.
The dial appeared and the base G2 figure responded to adjustment when I turned the dial to 1 and appears to work perfectly.
Thanks all for your help.
Hopefully this is sorted now, let you know if not.

All the suggestions offered in this thread are incorrect. You need to export the obj from DAZ Studio at base resolution, then load the morph back using DAZ Studio's morph loader pro, then save it in DAZ studio. That puts your morph in a format that will be added when you load a new Genesis figure into your scene. You cannot correctly import and save Genesis morphs (or do any type of content development) using Poser as it does not natively support the DSON specification. You can save a standalone cr2 with all available morphs, but those have to be in DAZ's format first to work.
When you work with Genesis, you are working with the whole figure, even if you are making a simple face morph. If you made a morph on Victoria 6 and not the base Genesis, you need to have Victoria loaded the use morph loader pro with the "reverse deformations" feature so it only creates a morph containing only your changes, otherwise you create a morph containing Victoria's mesh included, which you cannot distribute due to a EULA violation. The tools are set up in DS to handle only your morph changes for saving and distribution.

Why oh why on planet earth, would one ever need DS to create a FBM for Poser? Brrrrr..Grrrr...... Brrrr.....
Must be the global warming or something in the air.
Did you read the OPs question before posting? The OP is trying to make Genesis 2 morphs which you cannot properly do in poser. Clothes are not fitting because the DSON Importer does not recognize a poser-loaded morph to transfer to clothing because it is scanning the data directory in DS's library for available morphs, not in the figure loaded. The DSON Importer is just that, read-only importing of Genesis content that is set up for use in Poser. You write new morph definitions in DS only.
And Terrance? Why would I need that importer in the first place?? At least 3 different ways to get a Gen 2 obj/cr2/texture in Poser without DSON. So why would I travel around the world to go the village next door? To build a FBM, all you need is the obj file and a modelling app like Wings or Blender. i am NOT having this discussion again. STOP spreading wrong information please.
EDIT : My own answer is incomplete.
If the end user has PoserPro and Zbrush, he can build FBM using GoZ. And if he has neither : Wings, Blender, PoserPro or Zbrush, the end user can always create FBM using the build-in Morph brush.

No, your answer is incorrect based on the the OP's question. And that's what the thread is about. You can make your morph in blender, but the morph needs to be loaded in DS, period. You are the one spreading incorrect information and if the OP listens to it, that's pretty much the reason why the morphs aren't being added to the clothing correctly.. because it was done wrong in the first place. DS is used to import and save genesis morphs and Poser only loads them because genesis is NOT native to Poser.
Also once again. Everything that describes genesis is based on the DSON specification. Poser loads those definitions using the DSON Importer for Poser, not DSON, which is the specification. If you can't get that simple distinction correct, how accurate is the rest of the information you're trying to give? Not very.
Actually, the .obj files can be found in the Writable Runtime Folder specified in Poser' s Scripts>DSON Support>Importer Preferences, under Runtime/DSON/auto-adapted/data ; drill down to the desired figure there. You can then morph a copy of it and either bring it into Poser or Studio as an FBM.
Although I haven’t used it, Wings 3d is a free modeler... http://www.wings3d.com/

Again, do not use Poser to load genesis morphs and expect it to work correctly.

It works just like adding an FBM to a Poser figure; it doesn't auto transfer to a conformer, but since the OP has Poser Pro, it can be added to the clothing by simply using Figure>Copy Morphs From and either dialing it in or checking the Include Morphs box in the Property tab of the Body Actor of the conformer; it takes much longer to type it than to do it.
Now if they are planning to distribute the morphs, they certainly should be added in Studio...

Hi all,
At the moment I have a Genesis 2 Female that I have meticulously adjusted the dials on to match a V4 character I was using in a story I am working on.
It took me along time to get right as it did the other characters I have upgraded from V4 and M4 to Genesis 2 male and female.
These were working fine with the clothing conforming perfectly and life was good.
Two days ago for reasons I don't understand ( I haven't knowingly changed anything in any of the runtimes, Daz or Poser) the clothing starting unconforming.
I couldn't figure out why so decided the figures themselves my have become corrupted in some way.
I established that the Base Genesis 2 female still conformed perfectly so sought to create a full body morph of the V4 character Clone I had made out of Genesis 2 figure. I could then apply this to the Base Genesis 2 figure and move on with my work which has now been stopped for four days.
Currently I have tried following Paolo's video using Blender which didn't help because it was geared towards Daz Studio and was also referring to an older version of blender which for someone like me who has never used it before made it hard to follow.
Also although Paolo suggested his method can be used in Poser in his video he doesn't explain how and I was unable to work it out despite many hours of trying.
This is what I have.
A wavefront object created from the modified Genesis 2 female. This is sitting in the Geometries folder of my main runtime that I use for all my figures.
I can apply this to the Genesis 2 figure and it works great. However, as previously explained clothing will not conform to it properly.
I have Poser 11 Pro. I have the latest version of Blender (I have zero experience of using Blender). I have Daz studio 4.8. (I have zero experience of using Daz studio other than importing my runtimes into it)
Is there, or could someone create a bullet pointed explanation on how to get from A to B using any of the above software.
A = I have the wavefront object for the character that works.
B = I need to be able to conform Genesis 2 clothing to the Genesis 2 figure once the FBM is applied.
Thanks guys and sorry if I have upset the applecart here.

Once we have sorted this out I am going to make a simple tutorial with images and links to relevant software so that others can benefit from the learning curve I am currently on and have an easier time of resolving it.
I personally like things laid out bullet point fashion with images to help understanding so I imagine others are the same.

It's good then that I never tried Wings!
As far as marvlin's situation, there are two approaches; you can try loading the morphed Genesis 2, and conforming the clothing, selecting the clothing and use from the Figure Menu, Copy Morphs From, push the Unselect All button, and select the morph in the Body actor that you created from the list. You will then either dial it in the body actor of the clothing, or check Include morphs in the property tab of the clothing body actor. (sometimes the former works better as you can adjust the dial if there is a fitting issue.
Male_M3dia suggests doing it in Studio, which will allow auto transfer to the conformer, and it can be done by starting at Step 6 in this tutorial; this tutorial is for Genesis, but will work in Genesis 2.
http://3doutlaw.com/home/wp-content/uploads/Copying-body-morph-from-V4-to-Genesis.pdf
Note that I've had issues with Morph Loader Pro hanging, which I got around by having a DAZ content folder containing only Genesis 2 Starter Essentials (I have different content folders for each Genesis generation) and swapping it out for my Genesis 2 folder.
Also the above tutorial is actually to transfer a V4 FBM directly to a Genesis figure, so if you have your V4 runtime added to Studio, you can simply load your morphed V4 in Studio and go from there...
PS, always make sure the joint rotations are zeroed before exporting the .obj; don't ask why I note this...

Hi guys,
I am trying to create a full body morph for some of my Genesis 2 figures and to that end I am reading the manual.
It says here I need a 3rd party tool to do this.
Can you recommend one that will do the job?
