Subject: Making Morphs and Textures

Black__Days ( ) posted Sat, 09 January 2016 at 8:16 PM · edited Wed, 29 January 2025 at 8:42 PM

Hello all. I am finally going to get started making some content for DAZ Studio, and I have been looking into the subject of making morphs. I want to make morphs of all kinds, focusing on character morphs and full body morphs for the Genesis figures. However, I am having a hard time finding any learning resources that are current.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some good learning resources for making this kind of content? For reference, I already know how to use Maya, ZBrush and Mudbox, among other programs. My problem is on the DAZ Studio side of the process. I don't know where things should go in the directory structure, how to add them to the parameters and sliders that the Genesis figure already contains, or how to package them for distribution so other people can use them (and if I get good enough at it, so I can sell them).

Another issue I have is that I don't know how to create character textures. The same questions as above would apply, in addition to how to make presets so people can apply the textures easily. Any guidance that you could offer on this subject would be appreciated as well.

This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

The next thing you need to do is learn to use DAZ Stuido. If you want to make content for the program, you need to know how it's used. Learn to dress & pose characters, How to render them, where to find the content in the Library. Learn where DS Soars and where it Stumbles!! Go to the Galleries and see how other folks use it! What kind of movement morphs do you normally see? If the boots have laces, or the bows have tails, can they move in reasonable ways? or are they stuck in the default position, causing the render to look, minimally, odd? I know you can't tell from the final render if the artist chose not to use the morph or if it wasn't available, but you can see the effect of it's absence! This will also tell you which figures are in use so you can determine which character to target with your creations! DS is a piece of cake compared to Zbrush! Knowing HOW to use the program will make you a better modeler! Good luck!

Sorry, I should have pointed out that I already know the basics of DAZ Studio. I appreciate your feedback though.

A search on YouTube for "Daz Studio Content Creation" turned up a lot of videos. I didn't watch any of them, so I don't know if they will meet your needs, but it couldn't hurt to check into it.
