Subject: Problems Installing V4 Content with DIM(Latest Version)

MarkR151 ( ) posted Sat, 16 January 2016 at 12:35 AM ยท edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 12:47 PM

I'm finally getting back into DAZ after 18+ months away. Finally have enough time to now get back into it completely.

So tonight I had DAZ Install Manager(1.1.0.41) download & install everything I've purchased, including DAZ 4.8(for 64bit). I'm using Win 10/64.

But DIM gave me an error message for my main V4 content(V4 base package, Morphs, Morphs++, skin shaders, V4 Elite content, some clothes, and various other non-related things like Ron's Brushes, etc. The error messages read:

"Install Manager cannot find a required path. The package for V4.....requires that the install path be defined. Make sure that a path for this application is present on the Applications page of the Settings dialog, then try again."

Okay, the correct install path should be Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ3D/Library shouldn't it? In DIM I chose the option to have it install content to the recommended path which is exactly that. That's the Content Files Install To path. For Content Path Shortcuts, it's on the "Recommended DAZ...." setting. For "Content Updates Install To" I've tried both "Respective Installed Paths" and Selected Installed Path." The 64 & 32 bit content is set to install to the DIM default locations for Programs & Programs(x86) respectively. The Plug-Ins & Shaders Install to C/Program Files/DAZ 3D/Studio 4. All this seems to be correct & the recommended/default settings for DIM. So what's going on? I've got about a dozen things, most importantly Victoria 4 that's not being installed. What IS the Required Path?

And the Applications Page and Settings dialog? Is that referring to DIM or within DAZ 4.8 itself? Because I don't see it in either.

You might want to check your: DIM > Settings (gear in upper right corner) >Applications It's strange, I just now went in and I saw that all my applications were gone. My original folders were where they were supposed to be, just the path to them was gone. Which could explain why I was having some really strange problems. Like not being able to apply hair color. Plus I was getting the same error your are getting, with the new stuff I bought over the past couple of weeks. Applications were missing from both my laptop and desktop.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sat, 16 January 2016 at 4:04 PM

Victoria 4 should install with a plain data path - exactly which file gave the error?

Ron's Brushes would require a path for Photoshop (even if you are using them in something else) - click the gear icon at top-right, go to the Applications tab, click the + icon and set Photoshop up in the dialogue (choosing the folder you want to contain the PresetsBrushes folder as the path if you don't have PS itself).

Idgilman & Richard,

I checked the tiny gear symbol in the upper right of DIM and the install path reads as follows:

DAZ Studio 4.5+(32 bit) C: Program Files (x86)/ DAZ 3D/Studio 4

DAZ Studio 4.5+(64 bit) C:Program Files/DAZ 3D/Studio 4

The curious thing to me is why it says "DAZ Studio 4.5+ when the program it installed was DAZ 4.8. But 4.8 did install & does open, hence my other thread about miniscule text & graphics when used with this monitor, but that's a discussion reserved for that thread.

Anyway, are those install paths given above correct? Because I just tried to install it again a few minutes ago, and it still doesn't work.

To answer your question Richard, all 13 files(Victoria 4, Ron's brushes & Photoshop Bridge) gave similar error messages regardless of which. They all said:

""Install Manager cannot find a required path. The package for_________requires that the install path be defined. Make sure that a path for this application is present on the Applications page of the Settings dialog, then try again."

I think this is where you should be pointing your DAZ content install. Make certain that the current installation path is selected from the pull down menu if you have more than one particular runtime listed in the panel above.

When opening Daz Studio do you see all the other content like Genesis/2/3 and wardrobes etc or nothing at all?. I am reading in your lines that it is only V4 base and cloth etc gear that is the issue and if the other content is there via the DIM then the path must be correct. So it would be a different issue. I have two accounts at Daz my first time around and my second that has given me some grief over the years with content and not only buying content twice. In your DIM if you click on "Installed" what shows up?

Have you set a path for Photoshop in the Applications tab? That's what the brushes need.

What is going in the ____________ in the error messages? A full list please (or set of screen shots), once you have the Photoshop path set.

MarkR151 ( ) posted Sun, 17 January 2016 at 10:16 PM

Richard,

What's the proper path for Ron's Brushes in Photoshop?

But the most pressing matter at the moment as far as the other downloaded content goes, it was there to begin with, such as the Barefoot Dancer Tutorial girl, various IRay lights, Genesis clothes & props, but after I browsed around the GUI and tried out different workspaces & styles, when I went back to try the Barefoot Dancer girl in that 4.8 intro tutorial, I noticed that 300+ products which had been downloaded & originally had thumbnails in the Smart Content tab were no longer there, and that only 21 items/products had thumbnails, but even for them, I got an error message saying that this or that could not be found when I double-clicked any of them. I didn't delete anything! All I did was click around the various panes & viewports, and yeah, tried different workspaces & styles like Dark Side, Main Street, Hollywood Boulevard, etc to decide which layout I could see better with. But where did all the content go? Did simply clicking around & adjusting viewport sliders corrupt or delete files? I don't see how that could happen.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Mon, 18 January 2016 at 8:22 AM

I can't think of anything that would trigger the disappearance of content like that, especially if it's only partial, unless you deleted a content directory from the list. You weren't installing content to the application folder?

As for brushes, do you have Photoshop or are you going to use them in something else? If you have Photoshop set it up under the Applications tab in preferences; if not pick a convenient folder, tell DIM that that is your Photoshop location in the Application tab in preferences, and the brushes will go to folderyouchose/Presets/Brushes

MarkR151 ( ) posted Mon, 18 January 2016 at 6:34 PM

Thanks RH. No, I didn't delete anything, including content directories.

Yes, I have Photoshop. "If you have Photoshop set it up under the Applications tab in preferences;..." Applications tab in Preferences inside the DS program?

I'll try it. Come to think of it, seems to me, that when I was last using DAZ(4.03) I installed Ron's brushes into Photoshop in Presets/Brushes. So we don't do that now?

Also, for Photoshop Bridge, how best to do that? Does it work with Photoshop CS6 and 7?

One more question for content in DIM: What is PostgreSQL and what does it do? Is it important? That's another one that won't install.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 19 January 2016 at 3:01 PM

Bridge will work with CS6, You need to open the Install Manager, click the gear icon to open Preferences, and go to the Application tab. Click the + button to add an application, change the application name and version as needed, and use the ... button to set the path.

Where does PostgreSQL CMS (64 bit) need to go in DAZ?

My Documents/DAZ 3D/My Libraries ?

Or - Program Files/DAZ 3D/DAZ Studio 4 ?

jestmart ( ) posted Wed, 20 January 2016 at 11:38 AM

SQuiggLe is a utility not content, it will install where the other programs install.

I believe I installed it in Program Files/DAZ 3D/DAZ Studio 4. Would that be correct then?

RHaseltine ( ) posted Wed, 20 January 2016 at 4:00 PM

Yes, it's just another application that runs when DS or DIM run.

MarkR151 ( ) posted Wed, 20 January 2016 at 10:26 PM

Thanks. I believe I got ...SQL installed from DIM finally, but never could get the V4 content(with the PC monitor & Windows Administrator shield logo)to install from DIM, so I went back to my previous manually downloaded versions & installed manually.

The question is though, I installed all that manually before I finally got PostgreSQL installed from DIM. It was installed afterwards. Will opening my previous V4 DAZ scene files from 2+ years ago work or do I need to uninstall all DAZ V4 related stuff from 4.8 and start all over again?

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sat, 06 February 2016 at 4:32 PM

The CMS won't affect previously saved scenes - it's used for content organisation and for features like AutoFit and some of the set-up tools.

Hi, I purchased Sabby-Olivia and Alyson a few days ago and can't get them to work in my DAZ Studio Program. The files are in the same place as the other characters that I purchased from you, but when I go to apply the mats to the V4.2 base the promp says that it can't find the eyes ect... I noticed the file structure is different from the other character files. Can you help?

hborre ( ) posted Tue, 01 March 2016 at 8:52 PM

Examining the readme files for both V4 characters, all your content should be located within the runtime folder. Only Sabby-Alyson contain DAZStudio specific files, but regardless, both should work properly in your app. Those files are located in the Poser Formats folder of the Content Library tab and if everything was installed correctly, you should get no warnings for missing files. How did you install your purchases and how are they different from your previous characters?

adb123 ( ) posted Tue, 01 March 2016 at 9:33 PM

Thanks, I'll try your suggestions shortly. I installed the other characters manually, because I could not figure out how to get them into the DIM. I unzipped the folder and put the unzipped files in - UsersPublicPublic DocumentsMy DAZ 3D LibraryPeople. The three previously purchased characters work fine, but I have to go through Content Library. They don't show up in the Smart Content. They are different in a few ways. One, they have extra folders, the first of which is titled Victoria 4. The material is located in an additional four folders after that.

hborre ( ) posted Wed, 02 March 2016 at 8:29 AM

Renderosity purchases for DAZStudio will not show up in Smart Content, that is a DAZ feature for DAZ based content only. The hierarchy of folders for a particular vendor will vary depending how specific the breakdown. Since V4 has a tremendous product line specifically aimed at Poser, and most DAZ products, if not all, are designed to adhere to the Poser runtime hierarchy, I would suggest creating a separate external runtime and link that to your DAZStudio Library. That way Rendo purchases can be manually installed to that runtime and DAZ purchases can be automatically installed using DIM, provided that you feel comfortable and competent working with DIM in the first place. There are guidelines for working with DIM and a good number of them are found throughout Rendo and DAZ. Or just ask.

Thank you for you help. I am a newbie to both computers and the world of 3D art, and would appreciate any help that you could give. Could you give me a step by step for creating a separate external runtime and link to my DAZStudio Library?

Not entirely true. Anyone, including Renderosity Merchants, can create the database entries to make their products work with the Smart Content Tab. It also works for both Poser Content used in Daz Studio as well as Daz Studio specific products. If a product you want to use does not come with the required database entries, you can also add them, yourself. And further you can add your own entries for things when you don't agree with where Daz or someone else, put them.

hborre ( ) posted Thu, 03 March 2016 at 7:59 AM

@bhoins: Thank you for the clarification. I wasn't aware that 3rd party content outside the realm of DAZ3D could include vendor based database entries for Smart Content, as well as personal editing. Will need to explore this topic more closely. Thanks again.

@adb123: Let me try to post an answer to your question a little later today. The process is not difficult but could be confusing.
